Thread: Robert Kotick / Activision - Reasons to dislike in one convenient place

  1. Robert Kotick / Activision - Reasons to dislike in one convenient place

This is an EXCELLENTLY researched and put together thread about all the decisions Activision / Kottick has made in recent times.

I would love him if I was a shareholder but I as a gamer, he really needs to slow down with the greed. I don't think I need to say any more, take time to read and...enjoy?

Good thread. Also I am with the general "fuck activision" crowd.

However activision doesn't really release anything I want anymore. Last thing I really wanted was Modern Warfare 2, but after that was fucked up and infinity ward quit and were obviously pissed during making it, that was the end. I haven't bought another CoD game since (well MW3 but used and cheap). Guitar Hero they ruined like a cheap whore. After that I don't even know what they really have? Skylanders apparently sells like digital crack though. Movie based games? Pass.

My biggest reason is the way Kotick milks every Activision asset he can in the short term so he can pay himself super bonuses and retire with a nice Golden Parachute. In five or six years someone will have to pick us the mess he leaves behind.

In short i have nothing against Activision but i despise the greed of the man Kotick .

Treyarch's CoD games for me but no Elite. Ironic as well as Blops1 had a MUCH better functioning 'elite' built into the game's menu system (under Combat Records). They took it out, made it shitter and charged for it. And DLC I'll get when they become packs, I don't mind waiting.

Activision's greed effects me when I fear they are getting in Treyarch's way. Above example is a good one, as BlopsII obviously won't have any in game Combat Record now and god knows how rushed and forced the DLCs are going to be. I loved, say for one (fucking Kowloon), all the DLC maps on Blops1 and I can only vainly hope with this new model they can produce same quality. Although I tihnk some DLC maps are made by studios other than Treyarch actually, but same idea, releasing them so fast doesn't seem to have bode well for MW3 (or maybe that was just "IW"'s crapness).

And aren't you a Diablo III player? Asking that now sound kind of dirty lol, like "you fucking activision supporter" but I am asking because I thought you played it.

Yeah, that's where I stand as well. If you are making games, there is a big chance I'll always like you but if your boss is a greedy dick, that's unfortunate.

lol...yeah, even though many will say "I just play good games" I think it's kinda a cop-out. People stopped eating burgers from anywhere after watching something like Food Inc right? Where things come from is important. If I don't like the source, I do try my utmost not to support it. Games making does get seriously complicated though, so there's not always a finger to point.

btw--why was the ThatGameCompany thread closed? I thought that would develop into an interesting discussion about the rising interest in mobile/tablet/browser gaming, and to thrash Thatgamecompany for selling out If they are anywayz...

    who closed it?

The log says I closed it, honestly have no idea how. I posted and left the thread, must have accidentally ticked "close thread" checkbox. Noob mod mistake, sorry about that guys! It's open now

If you use that "the source matters" line in gaming industry, you won't be buying many games It's a young, cluster fuck of an industry right now and outside few studios, every game gets made in a pool of blood.

If this greedy guy charges me here and there, most avoidable costs worth adding, it's not the end of the world.

as you know I am very pick^ lol...

No, I try to be reasonable, but when certain companies are just blantantly douche bags, I usually try and avoid there stuff. It works out for me though as I only buy 2-4 $60 games a year, bulk of my gaming comes from PSN now where you can still get in touch with the actual teams behind the games.

Just like that letter and response I got from Superbot, I am not much more likely to pick up Sony's Brawl game simply from that reply by the dev team.

Errm... Activision do make things I like...

The bits of COD with Zombies
    The Transformers games are good
    Goldeneye Reloaded
    All things Blizzard

    Umm... Just those, really.

Don't think buying their games it's like supporting a murdering african dictator or sommat.

Buy good deep games that run on good hardware, don't buy the gimmicky trash, laugh in the face of those trying to sell you nothing for something, everything will work out just fine.

Currently playing: Everything God of War

I guess I'm just lucky they don't make anything I like. His arguments of "we're a company, most companies do evil, and we're not the most evil" comes off like a child's excuse for doing something wrong. Even if what he's saying is true, it doesn't make it right, acceptable, or forgivable.

Torchlight 2 was the saving grace . I bought sc2 so it's kinda moot for me.
