The closest Nvidia GPU (GTX 560) is currently priced at around 150 € over here.

    Any thoughts?
I have the slightly more expensive 6870, which is more than enough for most games today. The 6850 is only slightly slower... so you should be alright, I think.

Yeah decent set up, I'm an EVGA whore but Gigabyte do good stuff too, I had an nVidia Gigabyte card a while ago and the build quality was very good.

Nice build, Smokey. Should do you well for many years. Good parts, good price.

That's what I'm striving for as well. I don't really want to deal with upgrades for a while, so I hope it'll be powerful enough for about 5 years (it won't be for gaming purposes, mainly).

I'll post specs and price soon, to get your insight.

How soon are you wanting to build it? The prices should be going down in the near future with the new cards out. The problem with getting something like the 6850 is that it will run most games fine now (you won't be maxing them out), but future games may be of concern if you want to run them at 1920x1080 with high/ultra settings. Just for the sake of having a card that can handle more later on, it might be worth spending the extra 50-100$ now instead of having to get a whole new card 2 years later. (unless of course you wouldn't mind upgrading that one component in a few years).

Well, I would love to buy it now, but since I'm moving to our new flat 4 months from now (August 5 is the deadline, although there's a slim chance it could happen earlier), I was going to wait at least a couple more months. I just have it all planned already, although I do count on some components to get their price down, or if there are new models out, I might bite for more recent hardware if the price is right.

I guess you are right, waiting a few weeks or a couple months could make sense as of now.

Yeah, you don't need to go nuts because it's a Racing Rig. Shooter rig you have no upper limit. I can show you shooters that bring 7970s and GTX680s to their knees.

Money should be allocated for a racing chair and a good racing wheel. Logitech G27 or the like. Racing Wheels on coffee tables aren't so nice.

Yeah. I noticed that too, but he can't help he drives on the wrong side of the road. And his toilet flushes the wrong way.

I would probably play racing games more than never if I had that. Where did you get it from?

Vision Racer i think its a New Zealand company. it is an absolute perfect driving position IMO i bought the basic one 'Black Label' $800 delivered. there is a dearer one its chome made out of stainless steel. you can get D-Box set ups for them where the whole rig moves around with the game (way too dear for D-Box though) i had all the plastic mounting points changed to exhaust tubing solid a a friggin rock now (it wasnt wobbly before but the amount i play it lol) i spent seven yrs on the couch with wheels mounted to coffee table was about time to treat myself for the cave.

heres one with full D-Box ssetup very very pricey
