You seem to be using different charts to the ones on that site but anyway...

Well price, driver, performance, PhysX, adaptive vsync... Need I go on...

Adaptive VSync is seriously fap worthy all by itself. Up until now if you wanted the best frame rates you gotta turn vsync off, and tear your screen to hell. I HHHAAATE screen tearing, it's the jaggies of the current generation. Screen Tearing and low res are what made me dump console gaming.

nVidia gone dun fixed it. VSync on when you need it, off when you don't. Awww so awesome. Refuse to buy any video card without it. Keeps ya in that 45-60 fps sweet spot. Stuttering frame rates are the bane of my life.... Yes i should get out more.

True... Nvidias drivers (both Windows and closed source Linux) are far superior in a lot of areas... not that that matters with consoles, though...

Also, the dynamic overclocking is less of an interesting thing for consoles, too, because the hardware gets pushed much closer to the limit anyways, reaching its full potential without the need for overclocking at all. It would make sense for cheaper stuff though, because you'd get better performance with less perfect code (i.e. good for PSN titles that don't get huge budgets).

One thing Nvidia also has an upper hand is Cuda... this won't last forever, though, as OpenCL gathers more and more traction. At this years GDC, there were a lot of interesting technologies for game applications. One was using Cuda for a global illumination implementation, which could be put to good use next gen. Not sure if that couldn't be done with shaders, though...

You can do better than Adaptive VSync with the MSI AfterBurners Frame Limiter because it locks the frames to your monitor better and doesn't have the draw backs of VSync on like mouse lag.

And if you were having problems with VSync to begin with, you need to turn on triple buffering.

Not all games support triple buffering you see, also there would be huge problems with triple buffering in that crossfire set up you recommended.

My 5870... Just gotta go. Can't play GTA IV, an old ass game, maxxed out. Can't play Batman Arkham City, card just can't handle real DX11 games, just the early ones. Gots to go. Best solution for the least money is the GTX680.

Nothing runs GTA IV at max very well. It's a poorly coded game on PC. But I see reviews showing it doing 60 fps with Very High details, max AF, no AA at 1920 x 1080.

As for Batman, maxed out at 1920 x 1080 Dll mode - 170 frames per second.

What are you doing to your card that can't play those well?

  6. You are not the only one who can't play GTA4 PC, that port was sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiittt. No wonder they thought "fuck it" for a RDR port. R.A.G.E. needs better PC tools for sure.

For next gen I think developers will keep equality more in mind when developing tools and engines.

Rage is still unplayable on AMD hardware right? Guess I'll be playing that too.

    http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/...card_review/14

    Value
When we look at value, the GeForce GTX 680 has a better value and price than the Radeon HD 7970. At 1080p the $50 less expensive GTX 680 is going to give you faster performance and a better gameplay experience compared to the more expensive Radeon HD 7970. Therefore, at 1080p, the GTX 680 is a true value.

At resolutions of 2560x1600 or upwards into NV Surround resolutions, the GTX 680 is going to deliver the same overall performance and gameplay experience as the Radeon HD 7970. Why pay $50 more for the exact same experience and performance? Once again, the GTX 680 is the better value.

Simply put, at 1920x1200, 2560x1600 and 5760x1200 the GeForce GTX 680 is the better value. It's $50 less, and provides either the same, or better performance as the competition. The Radeon HD 7970 is either overpriced, or underperforming, or both.

The GeForce GTX 680 truly is a win right out of the gate. It has been a long time since we've said that about a new GPU from NVIDIA, and it is about time the company got something right the first time! Perhaps the stigma of power hungry, hot, inefficient GPUs is gone thanks to the GeForce GTX 680? NVIDIA needed to build its "green" reputation back up with hardware enthusiasts and gamers, and the GeForce GTX 680 is an excellent start. Let’s just hope we see NVIDIA’s next flagship GK110 do the same
    :O

Card is just chock full of win, it's the card the original Fermis should have been. I shall have one in two hours. :O

Run everything 1080p/4XFSAA/VSync. I have two monitors lying around so I'm going to try NVSurround for shits and giggles. Reckon that'll drag Battlefield 3 down to about 30fps.

Batman Arkham City (The DX11 one, not the DX9 Arkham City) is 38fps super maxxed out in NV Surround with no PhysX. Arkham CIty is real latest Unreal Engine rocking with it's cock out. Really tests your system.

Here we go again, looks like more grasping at straws but...

The PlayStation 4, reportedly codenamed Orbis, may utilize AMD's A8-3850 APU and Radeon HD 7670 GPU, sources have told IGN, offering the combined performance of both integrated and discrete graphics processors.

According to the official product specs, the A8-3850 packs a quad-core 2.9GHz processor with an integrated graphics chip. The APU will work in tandem with the system's dedicated GPU, the HD 7670, a DirectX 11-enabled card clocked to 1GHz with up to 1GB of dedicated VRAM.

It is IGN and I can't recall if they are respectable in the rumour divison.

Anyway those specs sounds weak for a console to be released for Xmas 2013 (if this date is accurate).

Another rumor :The PlayStation 4 will utilise effectively the exact same graphics chip as Microsoft's next Xbox

IGN sources indicate that the next PlayStation, rumoured to be called 'Orbis', will sport custom chips based on AMD's A8-3850 APU and Radeon HD 7670 GPU, offering the combined performance of both integrated and discrete graphics processors.

The HD 7670 is a DirectX 11-enabled card clocked to 1GHz with up to 1GB of dedicated VRAM.

More importantly, it sports identical specs to the HD 6670 - the card reportedly set to be included in the next Xbox, meaning the two next-gen consoles could potentially meet toe-to-toe in visual terms.

Select studios have reportedly been receiving PS4 dev kits since the beginning of the year, with more finalised units set to arrive towards the end of 2012.

Forbes also claimed in February that Sony's next-gen console will use a graphics chip provided by AMD, ditching current provider Nvidia in the process.

Around the same time, US PlayStation boss Jack Tretton played down the chances of Sony launching PS4 any time soon.

It doesn't just "sport" the same specs... IT IS THE FUCKING SAME CARD. The 7670 is a rebranded 6670... this shit pisses me off with GPU vendors.

It's only supposed to be an OEM card, not retail.

I hope these specs are wrong. They're just going to be so low end, especially by the time these consoles launch. Luckily, IGN don't have any credibility, especially when it comes to hardware rumour and speculation. I don't remember them contributing anything solid around this stage prior to the release of the PS3.

I understand that Sony and MS would want to focus on service offerings next gen, but if there isn't going to be a noticeable visual difference people will wonder why they can't just offer these services on current systems.

To entice customers, Sony and MS need to give customers a good reason why they would need to upgrade and what people see first are the games. These chipsets have appalling benchmarks, even when running something like UT3 it struggles to get above 30 FPS. I don't see how well optimised code, that takes true advantage of the architecture will even increase performance by 30%. And I don't see MS and Sony pulling off a Nintendo by relying on a gimmicky feature....they just cater to different demographics. I would rather they get a CPU with a lot of L3 cache and a stronger GPU than a weak APU. This APU and GPU setup just seems overly complicated for something that isn't that powerful. I can see the integrated graphics being used to save power when navigating the OS and simple apps like a browser, but it isn't really good for HD video and games.

I enjoy the speculation though...brings me back to the time when I was searching for any new info on PS3. That's how I discovered this place.

They still advertise it in "full pcs"... so it doesn't matter. When I buy a 7xxx series, I want a 7xxx series. That AMD and Nvidia do this is... disgusting. It's even more problematic on laptop GPUs, because often you won't find any info on those chips at all... so you won't know what you'll get. It's really bad!

And yes... I hope those specs are wrong, too... we'd end up with pretty boring hardware if this was true... Acert at B3D calculated a retail PC with these specs and came in at under 450USD. That already tells you how cheap a system using these parts is... For a gaming PC, it's already quite mediocre, but for a console, it'd be downright ridiculous.

Now I am not saying either MS and Sony should go balls out and get a 7950 or anything, that'd be equally ridiculous. But Pitcairn is the minimum performance level, that I'd want. MINIMUM.

No doubt it's a dirty practice. And nVidia just took it to a new low by not only rebadging several Fermi's but also reducing their performance by downclocking them and cutting the RAM in half. WTF?

But I'm not totally irked by them rebadging OEM GPU's given that anyone wanting a good gaming PC would likely not buy one with a rebadged GPU (rebadges tend to be on the low end...HTPC or entry level).

The mobile GPU space definitely warrants more ire because you tend to be stuck with the GPU it comes with.

As for the PS4 specs, I take them with a grain of salt but at the same time, can see them not wanting to go balls out again for the sake of trying to pull the company out of the financial crisis it is in. And if MS (which also seems to be going the same route) and Nintendo don't go full out, we'll have a console generation that's very evenly matched and will fight each other based on services, features and exclusive IP's.

At least PC games will be able to advance a little further again.

If neither group goes with a performance console, then yeah... no problem. If one does, he might outprice himself at the same time. So... I dunno. I want my console to be at least capable to compete with PC games. If not... why would I bother with them^^ Well, others will, sure. The "hardcore" aren't as big a factor anymore. So... all bets are on.
