I am no stoner, though^^ I don't know... those games might be great for what they are, but I have neither the energy nor the interest to invest in them, when I have "my" other games. I already don't have enough time to play the games I buy. Half the games on my Steam list are yet to be played. Adding even more games on my list just doesn't make sense, especially if they don't conform to "my" standards.
Kept you waiting
Rare pumped out 2 AAA rated games on average every year under the N64. That even bested Nintendo themselves.
MS has owned them for 10 years and I don't think you've got 2 AAA games the whole time.
What's that you speak? You definitely missed the SNES is you think it was just Nintendo titles and nothing else.
ActRaiser
Breath of Fire I & II
Chrono Trigger
Contra 3
Final Fantasy II & III
Ogre Battle
Populous
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore
Sky Blazer
Soul Blazer
Super Castlevania IV
Super Double Dragon
Super Mario RPG (made by Square, not Nintendo)
Super Turrican
TMNT
Top Gear I, II & III
UN Squadron
All 3rd party and all exclusive at the time(to my knowledge). And I could add a lot more to the list.
And let's not ignore the first party stuff. Super Metroid is the stuff dreams are made of.
Added to your list Viper. Segitz, if you think you didn't miss anything, you're sadly mistaken. And also, these are all exclusives to the SNES except for some if you want to consider the arcade as an actual home console. At least for the entries I put.
And if you don't wanna buy an SNES, here take this link for me.

Yeah... and the reverse is true for a LOT of Amiga and Genesis games... do I school you on those? No I don't... god...
So, I know I did miss some games, but I couldn't care less. I had MORE than enough games in my youth.
Also, the games "left" on this list either came in one or another form to other systems. Also... I mentioned that I own an Amiga... and you try to sell me Double Dragon, Turrican and Populous?? Really? (and, if I saw it right, none of those games were done by Rare, incidentally)
I get it... ALL of you love your Nintendo consoles... but guess what, there are ENOUGH people that didn't own those systems and had an equally well time. For a gamer it made little difference, as the amount and the kinds of games between the Genesis and the SNES were more or less equal. Technically, the SNES was a bit different (more colors and Mode 7, but slower CPU), but that didn't really make a difference.

You've missed our point, Segitz. You stated that all you missed were Nintendos own games and we're merely pointing out there was much more to the SNES than just Nintendo 1st party. Super Double Dragon was an exclusive SNES game. The Double Dragon on the Amiga was the original NES game. Same with Super Turrican. Populous might have been the same, not sure. Chrono Trigger, Contra 3, FF 11&III (technically FF IV & VI) were also exclusives at the time.
Yes, you had plenty of games, good games even, on the Genesis (MegaDrive) and Amiga but to say all you missed out on was Nintendo 1st party is to be missing a lot the whole picture, as it were.
And I didn't list any Rare games because all but Battletoads were considered 2nd or 1st party. Killer Instinct, the 3 Donkey Kong Country games, Ken Griffey Jr, Baseball.
You mean the original ARCADE Game (Double Dragon)... and there were several Amiga Double Dragons... but that also wasn't really my point either. And yeah... Turrican, the ORIGINAL was just Amiga/C64... And just read the stuff about Super Turrican... it's essentially Turrican 3 with a few mods... great, I'd buy a SNES just for that...
Populous... yeah, not the same... and surely I doubt that the console version has much resemblance... but it's like comparing Civ and Civ:Rev... no point, as the console version just can't compete.
And... exclusive at the time? I can't turn back time... I was about 10 years old at that time... my parents wouldn't ever buy me a second console....
In any case... my point STILL stands... even if I did miss several high class games... so did you and probably everyone else. Nobody can play "all the games"... And my point was (originally) that I don't need a freaking SNES, because I already had a Mega Drive and an Amiga... what else would I have wanted then?
Kept you waiting
Jeez Segitz, why the heck did you get all offended lol. We weren't yelling at you or anything. We were just listing games because you said all you missed were 1st party Nintendo titles, and that's simply not the case. You missed out on much more than just those titles. It's not like we were saying "You didn't play these games, therefore, you didn't have a childhood."
We didn't list Rare games because, well, we've kind of talked about them already on the previous page.
No offense to you, but the way you reacted kind of makes you seem like you have some sort of vendetta against Nintendo. And as you know, this isn't the first time I've said something similar on that subject.

Super Turrican for the SNES was a different game than Super Turrican on the NES and Amiga. They went all weird with the naming convention there. They basically should have named it Turrican 4.
Now I've accepted that you had plenty of great games to play. I said that already. The only point were correcting you on was that you said, "The only stuff I missed during that time were Nintendos own games." We weren't suggested you had to have a SNES to play good games only that there was more to the SNES that just Nintendo 1st party titles as you alluded to in your comment. It's like a MS fan saying the only thing he is missing is Sony 1st party. I'm pretty sure if one said that, you'd have 10 people post up a list of exclusive 3rd party PS3 titles.
Even though, in today's day-in-age, that's close to being nonexistent. If it's a third party game, bet your life it's on EEEEEVERY console out at the time. But this notion is still alive and well on Nintendo's consoles though. The Wii has plenty of third party exclusives. Way more than what the 360/PS3 have. So if Rare DID stay with Nintendo, they'd still be the golden company to make games for Nintendo. Even though, technically, they were a second party developer.
In my eyes, there's no difference between a second and third party developer besides second parties having their name on a contract. Second parties are just third parties waiting to happen. And in some cases, that's sad, and other cases that's good. Unfortunately, Rare was the former.

It's never about the hardware, although SNES hardware was IMHO, better than Megadrive. Better graphics chip, better sound chip by Ken K no less. Megadrive had a better CPU.
But really the difference was Super Nintendo murdered Megadrive on quality of games. Better platformers, better RPGs, better fighting games (Near Arcade Perfect Mortal Kombat 2 and Street Fighter 2 turbo), better 3D shooters, SNES had Wolkenstein and Doom no less, better racing games. Megadrive had better sports games, and they were equal on 2D Shooters.
Think you'd have had a better time of it if you had the superior console, now you're all grown up and can have all the consoles you want. I got about 14![]()
Rare being bought out was the hardest time of my fanboy days, smashed all hopes for another JFG installment

That's what worried me most was what would become of the IPs that were not originally Nintendos? Would Rare be capable of continuing them or would they be all new IPs?
Sadly, it's been worse than I could have expected. They've barely continued any, barely made new IPs and barely resemble the company I once cherished. 2 AAA titles every year for 6 years straight has become relegated to Avatars and minigames.
The lack of a real Banjo Kazooie 3 has been the worst I think, that Nuts'n'Bolts monstrosity doesn't count.
Should have been all win win, just carry on business as usual, pumping out innovative hits on the Microsoft company cheque. They started off so well to with Kameo, my favorite 360 launch title by a long way. Guess Microsoft hadn't got their teeth into them at that point.
I liked Perfect Dark Zero a lot. I know a lot of people didn't, but I appreciated the feel and tone of the game and the online was pretty good then. Kameo wasn't bad. It felt half-baked, but it had some of the magic. Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts never happened. The XBLA ports of Kazooie, Tooie and the original PD help, but...

Wasn't too crazy about Perfect Dark Zero, I had COD2 at the same time on my launch 360 and that was the key shooter. Perfect Dark Zero got a lot of pish taking by the fan boys. Does everyone remember Wall Guy?
Do promise to stay out of the fanboy wars this gen, the ones that start with the Wii U E3 reveal I guess.
Early screenshots of Perfect Dark Zero for 360, someone screwed up I think and left an N64 quality model as a placeholder in the game, the fanboys had a field day with it.
"Oh my gawd, 360 can only do N64 graphics / Perfect Dark gonna s00x0rs" etc etc, as fanboys do.
Wallguy become a legend, like flipping over enemy crabs for massive damage, Riiiiiidge Racer etc.
Simple things amuse simple minds.![]()
No question COD2 was the better shooter, but for what it's worth PDZ was a perfectly good shooter in its own right.
