i was thinking that if we know the name
we can speculate about the game in its thread
in news or vga thread.
and here are first screens.
What does this tell us? Very little, unfortunately. After The Last of Us was revealed
we figured out, thanks to a wily IGN reader, that the initial footage of the game surrounded a fungus called cordyceps that affects ants. This imagery keeps in line with the nature theme shown in the video of the ant, taken straight from BBC Planet Earth.Additionally, another screen, seen below, shows the front of a newspaper in a disheveled newspaper dispenser. A picture of what appears to be the fictional President of the United States speaking in front of an American flag is on the right, with THE LAST OF US to the left. Underneath, it says "The President addresses a panicked nation as millions more are feared dead or infected."
ahh should check vga threadThe quote box over the picture says: Our union remains strong... The military is mounting large guns and securing additional quarantine zones. This is our turning point. We can not and will not become the last of us. Mankind will prevail."
Other stories below that main story are titled "Texas, New Mexico Quarantine Fails" and "England Latest to Declare Martial Law."
the screens where there already
anyway maybe somebody could move parts of vga thread here
because it is strange that multplatform games have threads in ps3 section
and to read about this ps3 exclusive one has to go to other section.
and if you watch now the ant video here
after the screen goes black there is still something to hear...
lol so true. We have our own unique ways of doing everything One of e-mpire's charms I guess.Originally Posted by KRA
I'll just paraphrase what I said in VGA thread and say this is one of the better reveals of this gen (as in, how they are handling it). Hope the game lives up to even half of the hype, then it'll be amazing.
Well it was going to get a thread eventually just need some information, and it's tied to spike, similar how we do the E3 threads.
Anyways the sounds at the end of the ant video from what I can get
*guy running from something
*guy trying to unlock something a door? tumblers akin to a safe
*guys can't get it opened before an zombie/monster comes by, I'm sticking with Resistance-esque game.
my take on this game is that it's about giant ants that overtake the earth after a nuclear war. the guy breathing and the strange clicking is definitely in a confined or narrow space, so i'm guessing it's either an ant attack in a derelict town or an ant attack in an ant colony. the footage footage suggests that there are a lot of humans left, but with the title being 'the last of us', i'd say this is just a small pocket of humans trying to either escape or gather together for protection. if i'm right then in follows that the story will be about a group of intrepid humans out to take back the earth from the ever increasing numbers of ants/(insect?). where would it begin? a perfect start would be a news broadcast similar to the one we have already seen and a character (the protagonist) trapped in the ruins of derelict building with ants crawling around outside.
ants live in human like communities so it's likely that this will be a major element in the story, which suggests to me lots of underground gameplay as well as forestry and baron land. what would drive the story? why would we be interested in the protagonist? family! family is always a great motivator for the unlikely heroes of films and games. grief would be an easy way into understanding and sympathising the protagonist and a person that has had his whole family wiped out would be perfect for a hero because he has nothing to lose.
because there is a huge hole left for horror games with the likes of Silent hill and RE being so disappointing, i'd say this game will be more horror orientated, which will also help differentiate it from the alien theme of RFOM
think RFOM with insects and i reckon that'll be damn close to what we are about to be shown this weekend

Even GI now hypes this game... it seems strange^^
Kept you waiting
You gotta wonder whether they really have something special in store or it's all empty hype for another AAA game with a familiar theme.
Sorry as I'm at work I can't see any video, but could that be Half Life 3 ?
HL3 would never be a console exclusive, and there's nothing in there that reminds of Half-life.
they should have music from GYBE!
it worked great in 28 weeks later in some scenes where they used it.
i want this game to be really mature depressing experience
and this music grabs that depressive, no hope mood just great.
(and actually the music in the background of the first teaser sounds
kind of like that which makes me optimistic)
well in 28 weeks later it was used in scene where the guy is waking up and everything is almost over
but this game should throw us in just before the whole thing
maybe even few days earlier
similar to heavy rain turtorial part where you are not doing anything exciting
just learning controls and making bond with people and the world
so when it all goes away you could feel more
something in a vein of uncharted 'wandering in a village' part
where you could just walk around interact with people
so when they got all dead it meant something
so something like that just on way bigger scale
it would be really great
if the game start before
then let us live through the apocalypse
at the end just let us wander alone at the ruins of humanity...
i understand that many people are fed up with zombie games
no matter if they are made by some virus or some kind of fungus
as there were alot of zombie games and movies in a few last years
but if they really started to develop the game in 2006
it's kind of good excuse for me
and still there is a lot of great things
that one can do with that matter.
I give it being HL3 a 0.1% chance. And L4D was exclusive because Valve didn't have a PS3 team at the time, and they didn't want to half-ass it.
They didn't have a team for the Orange Box either, and yet they did it... EA made it "work". Not the best argument. Though I don't believe it's HL3 either.
Kept you waiting
Well yeah, it's because of how shit Orange Box turned out that they didn't want to outsource L4D.
2 days till we find out wtf this is.
i hope they never change the title of this game. it's a great title
by the way, has anyone seen the mantis like claw in the ant video? it moves just before the video cuts and the clicking starts. i can't believe that noone has mentioned this already.
also, in the last of us pic with the rather enigmatically placed blue flower in roughly the centre, there is something odd. far to the right there is what appears to be a branch but on closer inspection it's too rounded and too thick to be a branch supporting those leaves... they should be twigs. i'm seeing some sort of HAND

I never played Half-life 2...Orange Box on Amazon is still too expensive for my taste...I don't care about portal and Team Fortress etc...I'm not paying almost $45-$50 for an ancient game, don't care how many GOTY it got. I do want to play it though...;-(
Would be rather strange if this is Half-life 3, but I dunno Would be even stranger if the hype for this game is not matched even slightly by what's actually revealed.
“Had the religion of Christianity been preserved according to the ordinances of the Founder, the state and commonwealth of Christendom would have been far more united and happy than they are. Nor can there be a greater proof of its decadence than the fact that the nearer people are to the Church, the head of their religion, the less religious are they.”
"By their Fruits, you will recognize them..."
If you have a capable PC (I don't think it take much for HL2 at this point) you can get it off Steam for $10.
I liked HL2, and I'm not a fan of shooters.

and i don't now what is making you all even think that it could be half life3
that's really strange idea.
This might be pretty big, Uncharted 3 had at least a reference to it. New game by Naughty Dog perhaps?
