Anyone talking the HD 8xxx series is way too soon. That's well into next year sometime.

Ivy Bridge should release in a few days and I expect the HD 7990 in another 2-3 weeks.

With the Nvidia 680 performing as it does, you might want to actually wait a little bit. They already overclock like CRAZY... if you want to (actively) use Linux, Nvidia is still the way to go, too.
    Kept you waiting

Ok, I'll wait, and feel free to build my PC as well after, a tech judge will declare which PC is all in all the best between your PC and Viper's one

Looks like the HD 7970's overclock much better than the GTX 680's because the 680's are already reaching peak performance from the built in overclocking feature. This is pushing the HD 7970's over the 680's in certain games (much like the back and forth battle we've seen from top end cards from both camps for the past 4 or 5 years now).

If AMD drops the HD 7970 price into the mid $400 range, I'll likely look their way. Also depends on the upcoming HD 7990.

Actually, it depends on the resolution he'll be gaming at. Anything above 1920 x 1080 will likely get the AMD nod over nVidia because of the VRAM difference alone.

Viper, the AMD's "New Zealand" dual-GPU beast should be available in a week, I think; so if you have time, you might build my Power House PC with a Huge beautiful Monitor, or just tell me when all the best components are available to build the monster over the AMD's dual-GPU Radeon HD 7990 graphics card.
    Thanks in advance.

    I heard that...

Why they calling it New Zealand, expensive to get there, no one knows where it is....?

Intel just releases a slurry of dirt cheap SSD's. The Intel 330 series. 128Gb for like 140 bucks ain't too bad.

AMD has been calling certain segments of their Southern Islands series of GPUs various island names:
    Lombok
    Cape Verde
    Pitcairn
    Tahiti
    New Zealand

Same with their previous generation Northern Islands series of GPUs:
    Caicos
    Turks
    Barts
    Cayman
    Antilles

Top of the line CPU, 16 GB RAM, 2 TB HDD, liquid cooling and they throw in a mid grade GPU = fail.
