Well it was a Q&A post mostly about MP3....Unless the thread bump got your hopes up. I like Rockstar Q&As, I wasn't aware that it was so hard for retail in Europe to manage a Tuesday release for example (another reason to get rid of 'em).
But yeah, no news and I won't expect much until MP3 comes out and blows over a bit.

Trailer Spotting: GTA V Landmarks and Other Buildings
Not even going to mention how great of a job they did creating the city, pretty expected by now. Interesting still.
If not for anything, it makes you notice how great the game looks. In a couple of shots GTAV looks better than real life. There seems to be a lot of fog though but maybe it was a foggy day or they are optimising view distance.
We are a long way away from launch no doubt anyway so a lot of work to be done. I am surprised they announced it so early really, a bit unlike Rockstar but I guess so is four years with no new GTA.
Couple of taster shots, be sure to click link:

The city can look as beautiful as it wants. GTA4's landscapes looked extremely nice as well, but it was extremely boring and lifeless. It didn't capture the essence of the real life New York City AT ALL. Let's hope this changes this time around and that this will also capture the essence of the real California and LOOK like the real California. It's completely understandable as to why GTA4 was so gimped though. It was a new engine running on brand new hardware. It came extremely early in this console generation and was delayed a crapload of times. Personally, I felt they spent WAAAY too much time developing that "physics" engine but that's another story.
Also, they kind of shot themselves in the foot by putting GTA4 in a city based on New York City in the first place. Post 9/11, Americans weren't going to be taking too kindly to such violence being portrayed in a city based upon New York. They pretty much took out all the things they intended to put in. Watch old GTA4 trailers when the game was still being developed. There's actually videos analyzing all of the stuff that got taken out. Let's hope that doesn't happen again because Americans are so damn sensitive nowadays.
PS: Isn't this the first numbered GTA title that does NOT take place in Liberty City?

What things are you referring to as taken out because of 9/11? You know 9/11 is 2001, right? Not much to do with GTA4 (2008) at that point. As Rockstar mentions here, not much was taken out due to 9/11 anyway (from GTA THREE).
I am not sure what you mean by "physics" engine, there is Rockstar's R.A.G.E and a third company animation/physic system Euphoria at play. And to this day they are both still very very impressive. I also don't remember it causing any development problems.
I remember the story about the reason GTA4 delay was due to PS3 but that was it. And note the word 'delay'. I only remember one.
I do agree sandbox aspect was lacking in LC in GTA4 but I found the city living and breathing and just taking a stroll down the street was more fun/immersive than some games as a whole.
And yes lol. Me and Paz went over that. It is the first numbered GTA that doesn't take place in LC. I think they needed to up a number because they are dropping the whole Niko universe. They told his story, and are now moving onto a new vibe with the franchise.

That may be true for the GTA 3 thing, but keep in mind, you could fly commercial airliners in San Andreas (something of which wasn't done in GTA3), but San Andreas didn't take place in fictional New York City, so much controversy was never raised. Everyone expected jets, commercial airliners and all of that other stuff to come back in GTA4, but for some undisclosed reason, they never did. Not even in the expansion pack DLCs. They were definitely "playing it safe." They'd probably never publicly admit that though. "You mean the risky developer backed off?"
The Euphoria engine is also capable of fully destructible environments, even in the time of GTA4's development, but it was completely nonexistent in GTA4 for, yet another, undisclosed reason. Maybe they just decided to use it on the cars. Missing commercial airliners, missing destructible environments, and other things for undisclosed reasons means there must have been some level of talks behind closed doors that we'll never truly know about. And this probably explains WHY we're NOT going back to Liberty City in a numbered entry to the series. Rockstar probably wants to add all of that stuff back without huge controversy surrounding it.
Ground Zero was hardly even acknowledged in the game, if at all. There's definitely something fishy going on if you'd ask me. I can understand for GTA3, but GTA4, that was 6 years afterward. Maybe I'm just a conspirator....

Can I ask what you are getting at here? You just seem to theorise like all hell man. I can't reply to any of that [but obviously I will lol]. I mean I quote Rockstar themselves, who are by the way very open in those Q&As who said 9/11 had very little effect on GTA and you seem convinced it had a big effect. You know they plan these games many months in advance right [on top of the 8 year gap...] so if Rockstar felt GTA4 couldn't reach it's potential because of 9/11 stuff, guess what, they would have used another city. They have assets built up for a lot of cities. LC, VC, LS, SF and hell Carcer City.
Planes: Also you are not going to believe them so again, no point in me replying but it's not an undisclosed reason. They said with the size of LC in GTA4, it made no sense to have planes as it would mean you can get from one end to another in a very boring amount of time.
Destructible environments: What the hell is this? What have you been reading? You turned GTA4 into some kind of super secret government cover up or something "for undisclosed reasons"
Obvious technical and gameplay reasons come to mind as far as not having destructible environments. It had the small ones like glass and some props but in a city scale, that's crazy to ask for technically and a bit too crazy gameplay wise. Also why is this even in your crazy conspiracy mix? Rockstar never even mentioned destructible environments being a possibility for any GTA.
Yeah you definitely are man haha. I am not going to carry this on personally, I like and enjoy your posts usually but all this is a bit surreal for meOriginally Posted by Crazybone126

I don't think "fully destructible environments" will work on our current consoles. At least in a game that takes place in a city. And by fully I mean "non-scripted" or "predefined", like it's done in most other games that have this feature. GTA4 already didn't have the best performance, moreso on PS3, but also the PC port doesn't have very good performance, even on very high end systems. I doubt they could pull it off with these systems.
What I am wondering is, why the heck did we get the trailer... and then a complete blackout? I mean... I found that somehow strange that they show all the stuff now and then nothing... well Max Payne is the new thing now (which btw. looks really nice on PC).

Some serious painstaking recreation going on there. I've only been to LA twice but I recognized a lot of the places they compared.
Props to that web site too for tracking down adequate photos for comparison.
Fansites are only going to get crazier/more epic longer Rockstar doesn't provide anything new. Don't be surprised if someone constructs a rough sketch of the playable area from all the known locations/landmarks....Which I guess isn't that hard to do actually (by their standards) and would be cool.
I got hyped for GTAV again so bought the PSP titles on VITA to hold me over (so far so good). It was ridiculous anyway that there was a GTA game out there I didn't complete.
Young Maylay (CJ) confirms he's NOT involved with GTA V
Bit of no news, but better than literally no news. When Rockstar numbers the games, it usually means a brand new universe anyway.
And for the "he is saying that to mislead and create hype" crowd:
https://twitter.com/#!/youngmaylay/s...66447714095104MayLay @youngmaylay@lawfvader6 believe IMDB then.. I'm hired to "HOGG TIE & DUCT TAPE" people, not to create hype about a video game lil bro..

In more shitty news (let me know if no real news bumps are annoying):
GTA V October launch hinted at by Rockstar North employee
I believed it [the title]. Until a few seconds later I read Bioshock is scheduled for October as well. Take2 publishes both and there is no way Take2 is going to put them out in the same month. I think we are looking at a GTA IV timeframe for V.
I think we'll know when they start the marketing push, I say within 6 months of that barring a delay.
I actually saw someone comment that they wouldn't release it around CoD or Assassin's Creed because it would impact their sales and I had to laugh to my self.
As for Take 2's game catalog, most of this fall into next year is cluttered with their titles 2 XCOM titles, Bioshock, Spec-ops, Borderlands 2
With Agent and now what you said there, I feel like Rockstar is losing a bit of control over how they do things. It felt like they were badass people running their own ship, now it feels like they are the typical tech nerds being bossed around by the suits.
Next thing you know they'll be bullied by the suit jocks to appear at E3.

Yep.
lol CoD and AC? GTA's reaction:

GTA IV on PC isn't as good as it should be because it's just a lousy port. All runs on the CPU, doesn't matter what GPU you run it on, and sucks video memory, you need 1.5GB to run it maxxed. Hopefully they'll put the A Team on the PC edition of GTA IV. Well, at least not the Z Team.
But even as a lousy port, GTA IV on PC really murders the console editions. A decent PC port of GTA V could be mind blowing.
But yeah, looks like I've chosen a good year to sit on me butt and play video games.![]()
COD outsells GTA easily many times over, because they're able to release 4-5 COD games in the time it takes R* to make one GTA game, and each sells just as well as GTA would.
- A LunaticYou wanna destroy the nation, balance the budget.
Not as much as you think, The last 4 GTA sold about 75.5 million units where as Modern Warfare 1&2 and world at war sold a combined 46 million, can't find numbers on the last two games but they would have to combine 29 million between the two which is possible.
Numbers based on a quick wiki look up. and not all are up to date.
GTA3 sold 14.5 million, GTAVC sold 17.5 million, GTA SA 21.5 million as of 2008,
GTA 4 is up at 22 million as of last year.
I don't doubt that either game would affect the other... so it makes sense to avoid them for financial advantages. And since Xmas is full anyways, it's good for gamers, too... it always pisses me off that there's literally no games for consoles in early to mid summer.
Kept you waiting
