Concur, Nintendo > Sony > Microsoft this year. Slam dunk for Nintendo.
For a moment I looked at my 3DS and thought... Maybe I don't want to sell it... Maybe it's a keepie.
Which is great because no one will sodding buy it.
Problem with this years E3 was the games shown were just mad conservative. No wacky off the wall games from japan. It's all second and third sequels. Booooooring.
I was thinking about that yesterday. Last year it seemed like it was all sequels as well, and this year is the sequel to the year of sequels.
I realize there is only so much that can be done, but at least rebrand some stuff. Make it feel new.
I noticed a real lack of any RPG games. I am surprised that Kingdoms of Amular Reckoning wasn't shown at any of the conferences. Also would like for them to develop more co-op games. Co-op RPG preferably. Those games seem to have the most replayability.
Everything is shooter man...I'm hoping Sony does something in September, the Japanese games were definitely not here.
But we have White Knight Chronicles 2 and Monster Hunter HD coming--hopefully I'll see you online there man..
I imagine sport titles being absolutely awesome on Wii-U

Here is what I get a kick out of. If you think this conference is better or this one is better fine, but why is it Sony or MS release a sequel to a franchise that might be ten years old tops people moan and groan, but Nintendo is able to get away with it for 25 years and you don't hear a peep? I can't think of how many times Nintendo has taken something, slapped some new effects, colors, or controls and sold it at full price. Even Mario, and I will admit I havent beaten the newest one just played it for a few hours hasnt seriously done anything since Mario 64 but hey thats fine. Still a great title. In most cases, the sequels to these much younger franchises on Sony and MS's systems are as well. I guess the majority of people hold Nintendo at a different standard?
Hmmm..not sure how many people gave Ninty a free pass, no new IP's was a big complaint by mostly everyone. There conference was the best because it was something new to play with and see--the 3DS really blew IMO as it was games I already played in 3D, its the potential of the controller that wins the conference.
Wii-U is basically WiiHD, seems a bit more powerful than current systems going from that Zelda demo, and still kinda up in the air on 3rd party stuff, but at least devs are there at the beginning. That's a good conference, especially when the other two didn't show anything we didn't really know/care about. Sony IMO still has the best software coming this year, and will get most of my $$, but as far as enjoyment, Ninty wins hands down. Even if Vita can do what Wii-U does, they didn't show it like this.

Really? Seems to have about the same power to me. What Im saying in regards to franchises is, people seem to get super excited about Mario Kart this, Zelda that, Smash Bros etc, like it is the second coming. Ive seen the demos though and nothing on it really indicates to me that it will be more powerful than 360 or PS3. Look how small the actual thing is also, that gives you an indication that it couldnt have to much craziness going on in it or the system would burn up.
Unknown at this point but the options needed to make it happen are there. 25 GB disc space, latest HDMI spec, 1080p capable, etc.... I suppose it's just a matter of implementing it if they want to.
There are 2 confirmed developer roundtables where publishers will speak about their support and the online infrastructure.
If I can be a mean prick for a second....
Viper, I remember you telling us how HD graphics weren't important, and graphics didn't contribute to fun.... Could you explain again using this video as an example:

Ask a silly question but does it play Gamecube disks? On IGN I read it takes Wii disks but no mention of the GC.

Then you've not quite grasped what I meant back then. HD graphics by itself is not as important as quality gameplay. And as you can see, Nintendo agrees with that or else we'd have just an HD Gamecube. But instead they've taken the approach of not just graphic advancements but equal gameplay advancement.
If I just wanted HD graphics, I'd play PC which has been HD capable since the mid 1990's.
Better stated an ugly chick that's good in bed is better than a pretty chick that's lame in bed. If you want pretty, get the gameplay goods with it.
As for GC, it was long speculated that it would but there was no confirmation of it today. It does appear that the old GC ports are gone. Perhaps if GC games are still supported, you'll either use the Wii U pad itself or Wii Classic Controller.
I don't think so. Nintendo has stated that glasses free 3D screens and touch screens do not play well together. That would also put it in more direct contention with the 3DS itself in the consumers minds (even if not in reality). Better to not confuse the market more than they already have.

Does anyone get the feeling that our portables will be our home console controllers in future. I honestly cant see why Vita cant be a controller for PS4 with a firmware update or minor hardware revision. Wii U is 80% a portable gaming console. Its pretty cool and it would pretty much force everyone into portable gaming even the haters but in a nice way.
It's possible, AC!D. If the hardware can be small enough to be as powerful as the home console versions at low costs and low temps, it's possible. Remember that this is going to offer 1080p gameplay on the main TV plus another screen with ~500,000 pixels on it. For portable hardware to do that will have to be insanely powerful.
