Skype Coming to Xbox LIVE and Kinect

    http://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/p...orpNewsPR.mspx

Skype will support Microsoft devices like Xbox and Kinect, Windows Phone and a wide array of Windows devices, and Microsoft will connect Skype users with Lync, Outlook, Xbox Live and other communities. Microsoft will continue to invest in and support Skype clients on non-Microsoft platforms.

Hmm... so much for a good Linux skype client... well I don't use it much anyways... but still.

I'd rather have an open SIP client on my console like on my mobile phone and PC...

Why would they do that, though... never made sense to me. It's not like PS3 already can do VoiP anyways, so integrating Skype into the GameOS is just an additional burden (especially memorywise). Plus, you'd probably need an additional login with Skype, which is not really good for the casual user, either.

because it gives you voice/video chat beyond your console friends list. I can talk with family and friends on skype(on my console) if they don't have a XBL/PSN account.......

if you pay for skype...yes. free skype generally only allows skype to skype calls(video included), of course more and more cell phones have skype availability. there are two paid services; the cheaper of the two is making outbound calls to phones(your number comes up as unknown or something similar), and the more expensive($30/year lol) gives you a number and lets you have national inbound/outbound calls.
