The Euphoria engine, makes kills that much more satisfying

  3. It's honestly one of the few things that feel next gen to me. So many things are cosmetics this gen, Euphoria actually uses the power for such dynamic physics and AI reaction it's amazing.

I guess it's hard to implement though as we haven't seen it in many games. Rockstar kind of made it theirs and worked hard to implement it into R.A.G.E., hence why they can use it that well now (remember GTA4 tank movement).

One improvement I am waiting for is flesh peeling off according to where you shot. So headshot sends small pieces sticking to walls and maybe dynamic blood flow. Shooting a finger snaps the finger off and it dynamically reacts with the environment (bounces off walls, rolls down stairs etc).

Well... since I couldn't care less for Diablo (at the moment), I might get this one soon... not sure, though.
    Kept you waiting

Saw a Gametrailers review of it, they were a little lukewarm on it. 7.6/10 I think.

Hmmm... Gots to be AAA awesome to get $60 out of me these days. One to pick up in the Steam sales... In a couple of years.

  11. Got a message from @AC!D saying "fuck this game is hard", made me lol. It stays true to MP1 and 2 in that regard. You've got to use shootdodge and bullettime carefully and use it well. Each time you activate it, you should clean a lot of guys otherwise you wasted it.
Also look for the gaps when enemies are reloading to activate it, or just as they got their sights up and are aiming so you actually dodge the bullets. Otherwise you still get shot, just in slow motion lol.

I also love they have those asshole guys that come out of blind corners, that is SO typical Max Payne and I am glad Rockstar kept those guys in.

Covering mechanics eases it quite a lot though, something you didn't have in previous games. I am playing it on Hard myself and outside one cheap bit (I won't spoil), it feels fun and challenging.

The game itself is a solid shooter, attention to detail is what you'd expect from Rockstar. After a battle is over you see blood splatters on walls, footprints where people stepped on dead bodies and ran to cover, gun clips scattered all over the ground and everything riddled with bullet holes. It's so detailed you could come into the scene afterwards and trace how events went down.
I loved one part where I shot a guy in the neck as the final kill and his blood splattered on the stair's rails then he held his neck while it was spraying blood then tumbled down the stairs.

The animation system is everything the media hyped it to be. It really is pretty special how there is an animation for everything, no matter how absurd the sitution is. Dive into a wall, Max bumps his head into it. Dive down the stairs, Max comes tumbling down etc etc.
I also like how the AI moves when they are shot. Destroy their cover, they move to another one. Shoot them just as they are hiding, they'll pop their head from another spot. Pretty nice touches there.

The story is what takes the cake here. Maybe because I was scared they would ruin it or something but no, this is Max Payne. Just.....I can't say anything without spoiling it but the story is as dark and awesome as the previous games. The presentation changed obviously, but don't let that get in the way of the enjoyment. The monologues and the grittiness is still there and is better than ever.

My biggest problem with the combat is the slow animations when you want to snap to cover and getting up from a shoot dodge. By the time those animations finish half your health is gone and why does Max run so slowly in this game? All this combined with enemies that seem to have pinpoint shooting accuracy are making the combat more frustrating than enjoyable. Ive also gotten to the point where i dont use shoot dodge anymore because its not worth it and never pays off. I find myself using normal bullet time from cover. Another irritating design choice is when i enter a cutscene with a scoped FAL why do i then exit said cutscene with my freaking pistol equipped forcing me to then fiddle with the menu to get my weapon of choice equipped while enemies are shooting at me?

Anyways thats why im findiing the combat maybe not hard but cheap and irritating at times. But i am getting used to the combat now mostly by just using the mediocre cover system and bullet time. This is not however the way i remember playing MP on PS2.

Other than those gripes the game is amazing. Stunning levels with destructibility. Great voice acting, music and plenty more. The story aint so bad either so far.

Oh yeah I hate that. Perfect continuity my ass Rockstar! I guess it is since cutscenes animate with your primary pistol instead of primary rifle, but let it animate with the primary rifle! (rifle is still in the cutscenete btw but max switches to holding his pistol). On Hard you can't afford to fight with your pistol or afford the time to swap, and since 90% of the time after a cutscene you are in a big fight, it costs me a lot of health.

Also to note, I think FAL is my fav rifle.

For slow animations thing, just make sure it's clear before getting up. I actually like that to be honest. Being prone works to your advantage in majority of the cases anyway so I take people I can see down then get up and run to cover. Feels real gritty, where you scrub yourself up and carry on. That's key to Max Payne gritty old broken man.
I do agree running isn't really running and is in fact a pet peeve of mine and manages to annoy me in this game every time I hold X to "run". Tip to avoid frustration: Roll (double tap X).

I think this resembles Max Payne pretty close in gameplay. They were tough as shit those games. On PC I quick saved and quick loaded my way through everything. This is similar in taking cover, picking the right time to shootdodge and get another cover.

Anyway these are just suggestions that hopefully improve your experience...I agreed with you on most of them anyway. Glad you are enjoying it, should give MP a go some time (join the e-mpire crew).

  14. I wish Rockstar would stay off MP, it sucks....Again (IMO). I say again because ever since GTA4 [including gta4], the only thing Rockstar got right in MP for me was the co-op missions in RDR.

In MP3 it's just a bunch of duel wielding people running around, plays retarded as hell. Some cool specials and items though, but again R* fails to capture a good MP flow (again, IMO).

Im playing the game with my new headset and wow the sound is amazing. Someone set off fireworks in the game and i got such a fright it wasnt even funny. Best PS peripheral ive ever purchased. I cant wait to try Dead Space with it. I love the atmosphere Rockstar managed to create with sound and music in this game. It really almost feels like your there in Brazil. Man i need to organize some cash for world cup 2014 in Brazil.

I've read that the 35GB PC installation are actually not an overstatement. PCGH says it'll ship on FOUR dvds^^ That's quite insane! Not bad, not bad at all. I guess them saying "this won't be a bad port like all our other games" is true. One should reward them for it, if that's true.
    Kept you waiting

  17. Reward them for not lying? Man you are sceptical.

Technically it might be good, but any Max Payne loving guy will despise the last couple of chapters. Worst Rockstar game imo. It was probably crunch or what-not but the dip of quality is so disheartening near the end.

I gave multiplayer mode more of a chance too and you know it's bad when even when you are doing good, you hate it. So annoying to put 3-4 AK shots into someone and he just bum rushes you with dual wields and kills you in a split second before you know wtf happened. Reminds me of the "DON'T FUCKING AIM!" jokes made about Uncharted's MP.

Hell forget getting rushed, most players now snipe you with freakin' dual wielding pistols. Once I died quickly at full health and was like WTF, I check where I got hit, one hand, one hip and I am dead in two bullets?! Maybe he had a power up or something but it was so annoying to die so quickly with pistols from so far away.

So much bullshit. I wish there was some sort of co-op online, that probably would have saved it. As it is...I'll probably trade it in.

No, not for not lying... but for actually giving a shit about PC gamers like me!
    Kept you waiting

  19. Well you already knew they said they would. So you should have gone "cool, can't wait to play it". But your post says "wow they weren't lying with that". See now?
