i think this is where cloud computing will really take off. play a game on your ps3, save it to the cloud and pick up your NGP as you head out the door. load your save and continue your game.

Dark Souls director interested in bring it to NGP, could make for an interesting game and a lot of broken NGPs

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the man behind Demon's Souls, has said he'd be interested in producing an instalment in the series for the Sony NGP.

"I like the platform. It's very attractive," he told Eurogamer during a recent interview.

"We're not considering it right now but there's always a chance. There's always a sense that I'd like to try and do something on that platform."

"If we were going to port [the series] to the NGP, I would probably redesign it so it fits the handheld," Miyazaki confirmed. "It won't be a straight port, if we do happen to do it."

I hope they get a bunch of "meaty" games. Akin to MGS: Peace Walker and Dissidia Final Fantasy in the sense that you plonk down some money and have a game that constantly ups the ante, making you feel as though you've bought something worthwhile.

Why not not eat pigs together?

NGP still need a gimmick I think though. All these features are heavenly to me, but if they want to surpass PSP in sales, they need to have what DS has--a casual draw.

DS it was dual-screens and a stylus.

    3DS has no glasses 3D

PSP can't really go with "touch" since it isn't new anymore or with connectivity features like "Near" because most people won't know wth they're talking about. I'm thinking Sony should just go with a chat feature like LIVE that projects your friend's voice through your console as soon as you're online. Give it a catchy title, and essentially every NGP with 3G capabilities is also a walky-talky with all your friends. And standard NGP can also be apart of it as long as they are in Wifi or a hot-spot. Could be enough for NGP to get a new identity, especially since Sony seems to really be focusing on software and connectivity. What bigger way to stay connected than easy communication between NGP's? I'm sure content will be different enough between the two systems, touched based dual-analog has different potential than dual-screen 3D titles, but 3D is a bigger catchphrase and Nintendo will likely have some first-party titles that will certainly show off the new feature--Sony needs to come up with on there own.

Has a handheld ever had the capabilities to speak to your buddies without a head-set or ear plugs?

btw--I think "link" is a great title for the New PSP.

PSL for short. Everything about Sony philosophy with the new PSP revolves around gathering ideas and input from a broad range of people. Getting developers involved, getting 3rd parties involved, getting fans involved, broadening appeal to casuals, Sony is trying to link up with everyone, make new friends, and have that expressed in the console. Not a bad idea, if everyone's happy with a platform, and even had input in it's design, you are more likely to get outstanding software made. I'm thinking about sending it to PS blog or sutin. Anyone besides me think its cool? o_O

Link sounds cool...except that every time I think Link I think of Zelda. I don't know if Sony wants their system to be constant reminder of the competition.

That was my first thought too. And if right away 2 people come to that conclusion, probably best to work with a different name. The concept is great, just visual and psychological connotations that go with it are a problem.

Edge Sony NGP hands-on: 'Best ever handheld thumbsticks'

Respected gaming bible Edge has published its hands-on Sony NGP impressions - and it has tall praise for the PSP successor.

"Based on our hands-on time with the device following the presentation in Tokyo, we can confirm that Sony's 'Next Generation Portable' feels considerably larger than previous PSP models," the mag writes, adding that the lack in pocket friendliness is a "fair trade-off for the spectacular five-inch OLED display".

"Despite the larger dimensions, the handheld console is actually thinner than a PSP," it adds. "It's hard to believe such power is contained in such a slim form factor, especially without giving off any heat."

Edge goes on to call the NGP's 'Super Oval' shape "very comfortable", "robust" and "high quality".

The biggest praise however is aimed at the NGP's dual thumbsticks: "The analogue sticks are the best ever implemented in a portable device, giving the feel of using a genuine DualShock controller, with all the granularity of input you'd expect," it gushes.

Edge's comments echo those of Epic man Cliff Bleszinski, who had similar praise for the PSP successor's thumbsticks.

In the same issue Edge talks to SCE's worldwide studio boss Shuhei Yoshida, who revealed that Sony dropped NGP features to bring the price down.
    Good to know

The thumbsticks are one of the few things about the design I'm concerned about. With no covering, they stick out a bit and will easily snag on clothing, pockets, backpacks, etc... Either a covering, casing, or some other means of protection will easily solve the problem but I've been so spoiled by clam shell designs for portables now that anything protruding will always bug me.

Reaching a bit there arent we? The NGP is thinner and will obviously come with a case cover. Besides the chances of you purchasing an NGP are zero so i think your pockets will survive next gen portable gaming

Just to precise the last Shuhei Yoshida's sentence : Sony NGP features dropped to keep handheld affordable

Sony's NGP is a feature packed handheld with a high-quality screen and numerous control methods, but Sony says it has had to cut out a number of "cool" elements in order to ensure the final product is affordable.

Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment worldwide studios, told Edge: "I can't talk about a definitive price at this stage. But since the very beginning we had a target in mind. So, when considering various features, we always had our price range in mind.

"There were elements that we found pretty cool, but had to set aside to remain on target. It's a big lesson we learnt from the PS3. There's no point putting everything you want into a device and doing the math later. We always had the price and consumer in mind. We had to sell something that people could buy."

Yoshida also acknowledged that Sony "can't sell the NGP for the same price as a PSP".

Retailers have said NGP's price will need to be less than £300 if it's going to compete with the 3DS.

I expected as much with the change in management, but it nice to see that they are still getting a lot of features even with this mindset.

"can't sell the NGP for the same price as a PSP".
I wonder if this includes the PSPgo.

I'm expecting $250-$350 for the low end model.

I think if their going to go forward with the PSP they should just kill off the go, just have the NGP and the 3000.

psp and pspgo have evolved into ngp and psp phone. however with the slew of umd's still on teh market they will keep the 3000 around for a while.....just not sure how they are gonna handle the go.

No TV out makes me a sad panda... that also means there'll be no official DS3 support either... that would actually be my killer feature. TV Out and play it with a DS3.
    Kept you waiting

Wish I were reaching but it's quite honestly the one thing that would concern me about it. Like I said though, a covering will solve the problem but we don't know if it comes with one yet or not.

I like clam-shaped myself, but being that I really play in the house with these things, it's not much of an issue either way. Of course a case/sleeve is a must when it comes to NGP to protect that screen. Perhaps a cell-phone like case will be offered that covers the unit and protects from falls.

I'm mostly excited about RPG's finally getting the proper treatment they deserve, and actually matching their amazing art direction and not being two completely different entities. I can't wait to see Akira Toriyama's work expressed on handhelds the way there were on consoles.

If there was even a question about it, Sony will be talking about the NGP and it's "broad range of input and connectivity options and how these create exciting new opportunities for game designers" at GDC.

GDC is from Feb 28 to March 4

Frosty should be there. Not sure what pass he is getting but any pass should get one into this conference.

The only thing that worries me with the PSP2, are the 2 sticks. I don't know how, but I have destroyed 2 DS2 (loose sticks, especially the left one), and 2 SIXAXIS (also mostly the left stick) controllers.

I really hope that the 2 sticks on the PSP2 are of different tech. I can not imagine what I'll do, if the sticks become loose/sticky.
