Memory stick issue is slightly annoying, but I was planning on getting one eventually, still, every game should have the option to at least start without a memory card, that's just asinine.
My only gripe with Vita is the no HDMI output. I know it's gonna be something added into some updated ver.2000 or whatever, It might be enough for me to skip Vita at launch and wait till next holiday season to get one. Depending on how badly I'm starving for great SP and RPG's games I guess.

yeah the memory stick issue is a bit of an elephant in the room, but this thing is so good i don't think it'll have any impact on sales. some sites will run with this obviously, it's in their blood
I might have said this before, but this was Sony's tactic for PS2. Get the hardware good and a positive image from all, and sneak in overprices add-ons that are necessary (i.e: PS2 memory cards and now VITA memory cards).
Maybe they were over-priced because I was a kid though, but like if a friend had TWO memory cards back in PS2 days, we'd like "damn, you pimpin' son!" lol.
Bored and I actually looked it up, PS2's 8 MB Memory Cards went for $34 at launch same price as a Dual Shock. Didn't realize it was that much. I got mine from a friend and never bought one.

Yeah, thought so. Thanks for checking that up. And $34 of those days was more. Not to mention UK prices were a much more I bet.
Well I'm on Sony's side with this tactic, if PSVITA gives us anywhere near as diverse awesomeness that was the PS2 library (along with a boatload of shovelware of course lol), charge me $100 for a memory card for all I care. Those are things that pay for themselves over time with infinite lifespan.

I remember desperately needing a Memory Card after getting GT3 (didn't shut off my console for 3 days straight, because of it). 80DM (40€) was a lot of money for me, back then^^

yeah, PS2 definitely hit you with the add-ons...Memory cards and controllers hit your pockets, not to mention you had to buy a network adapter.
Ironically, Nintendo had the same strategy with Wii this generation and look how much money they made.
Wii out of the box won't get you almost anywhere unless you want to continually play Wii Sports titles. Memory cards, extra wii-mote, batteries for wii-mote, charger for Wiimote, WiiMotion+, add-ons to popular games like Wii fit, or steering wheels, Wifi adapter to get online, component cables etc....it's just continuous.
But, as stated, if the software library is good, you bite the bullet and get whatever it is you need. The only real problem I have with Vita is not out-put to a TV man, that's almost unacceptable -_-

I still think there are going to be issues in 2 or 3 years with storage limitations. Vita is essentially a PS3 and im struggling with a 320GB HDD at the moment so...PSN games are coming out these days at around 2 - 3GB so i hope they come out with something better. Maybe we can store the games with their DLC on our PS4 HDD's or their cloud storage will get to where we want it to be beyond just game saves.
PS Vita first edition bundle
Link
PS Vita WiFi/3G
Little Deviants
4GB Memory card
Special edition case
And it is released one week earlier on Feb 15th.
The bundle works out nicely for the folks who are interested in 3G and little deviant video game, for $10 more they 4GB memory card (value of the case???). I changed my order to the first edition bundle mainly for the memory card.
AT&T should offer some type of service that allows vita to be used more like a Cellphone, a monthly subscription just for constant internet access IMO, isn't justified. I want to be able to at least text someone on a cellphone or something. Give me some bbm or dedicated AIM type of service that connects Vita with Cellphones across AT&T's network. Then I would look into getting the 3G version.

I have a AT&T LTE 4G mobile hotspot, anything wifi can connect via wireless b/g/n and use it. I have found it works better than most internal radios and I know what the plan is, it doesn't change from one device to another. So I can go from the Xoom, to the iPad, to the PS Vita and its all under 1 account.
I had a 3G model ordered and later cancelled it and go the wifi only mode from Amazon for $219.99 with release day delivery. I also ordered LBP, Uncharted, and Hot Shots Golf, which will arrive the same day as the Vita.
1) I hope the bit at the beginning was the splash screen when you open a game, I'm really missing that.
2) Sony learnt a LOT far as UI goes, I hope any, ANY of their knowledge comes to PS3 via FW. MS updated their whole dashboard a couple of times so Sony can do something similar.
3) Why is the there QWERTY keyboard yet they type in Japanese? Just wondering about that.
And in general, like sometimes in Japanese posters when you see dates some of it is in English numbers.
If you type in romaji it will show as kanji/kana. I use this on my phone, you just type what you want in romaji using a english keyboard and it appears as kanji/kana, you have to pick the right one at times since there are various ways to say or interpret things but its a pretty standard way of typing in Japanese here and in Japan.
When writing horizontally, japanese write numbers with arabic numbering. Only when writing vertically do they write in knaji... at least that's what my japanese teacher told me.

Kotaku. Here Is Sony’s UMD Solution for PS Vita Owners
The PS Vita does not use UMDs. Instead, it uses cartridges and digital downloads. The UMD is going extinct, putting current PSP owners in a bind should they want to play their PSP titles on the Vita.
Today, Sony announced its solution: UMD Passport.
Starting Dec. 6, the UMD Passport service will start in Japan. Here's how it works: Download a free app called "UMD Registration Application". After that, enter your UMD game disc into your PSP, and according to the on-screen prompts, register your UMD via your PSN Account. The UMD will then be available for purchase.
Once the PS Vita is released in Japan on Dec. 17, you can then download the title on your new Sony handheld. According to Sony, the games will be available at an "agreeable price".
Currently, 40 game companies are offering 200 UMD titles as part of Sony's UMD Passport program. The digital versions of the games are priced anywhere between ¥100 (US$1.29) to ¥2,400 ($31).
Here is a selection of titles to give you an idea of how much the downloads cost on UMD Passort: Patapon 3 (¥1,000 or $13), Gran Turismo (¥1,000 or $13), Hot Shots Golf Portable 2 PSP the Best (¥500 or $6.40), Colin McRae: DiRT 2 (¥1,000 or $13), Dynasty Warriors: PSP the Best (¥500 or $6.40), Persona 3 Portable: PSP the Best (¥1,500 or $19), and Guilty Gear: Judgment (¥500 or $6.40).
This is not a full list of titles, and other companies, such as Konami and Capcom, are participating. Expect pricing and titles at a later date. Obviously, Sony did not disclose U.S. pricing, but one could assume that games priced at, for example, ¥500 would be priced at $5 in the U.S.
As mentioned above, the PlayStation Vita goes on sale in Japan on Dec. 17. It launches in North America and in Europe next year on Feb. 22....Meanwhile, Andriasang has revealed how playing a PSP game on Vita works.
PSP games show up in the LiveArea. If it has a digital manual, the icon for it displays here. In play options you can toggle bilinear filtering, change settings for the right analogue stick and switch the colour space to match the colour of the PSP.
For games that use the system's camera, you can switch between the front and back camera. You can transfer your PSP saves to your Vita, through the Vita Content Management program on your PS3 or PC.

good enough I say....
Just probably not ideal for users with a large collection of UMD's, which shouldn't be that many I guess.

I went digital-only with my PSP some time ago, so it's not much of a biggie for me. I've got Crisis Core on UMD though, so it looks like I'll be buying that again...

Why not not eat pigs together?
They started so well with Vita and now the costly memory sticks and paying to transfer already purchased UMD's. Absolute garbage Sony!!!
All bundles for the past few years have covered some of that. And what do you mean by needing a Wi-Fi adapter to get online?
Peripheral craziness has always been a factor but it does seem like each generation outdoes the previous generation. NES had R.O.B., the Powerglove, PowerPad, Light Gun/Zapper. SNES had the SuperScope, Gameboy Player, Game Genie, Mouse. Genesis/MegaDrive really went nuts with add ons; Sega CD, Sega 32X. And it's just been snowballing from there. N64 had the RAM pack, memory cards, Rumble Pack,
