    Gamestop taking pre-orders on 3DS???

Pricing should be close to the $300 price tag in Japan, which makes it the most expensive Nintendo game console in history. The high price should be keeping a lid on excessive demand as well.

    From the NeoGaf forum post:

“Ok well I got the OK to tell people about this from my work, but we officially got word in that all US based Game Stop stores will be taking reserves on the 3DS starting on the 26th. Depending on the place holder price you will be required to drop a minimum of $25 on a reserve. This is a personal guess but since we need a estimated time of release I would assume Nintendo is about to officially reveal the price and release day anytime from the 25th to January 1st. (UPDATE: The reserves DID infact start today! if your GS can’t find it in their system the SKU is 020132.)”

If the poster is correct, then we should be getting a release date any day now, which is somewhat odd as the important holiday shopping season has just passed and Nintendo has to hope that consumers have at least $300 left over for the new device as well as some dough for a few games. Sony will have to be much more creative in pitching the device than it was during the Christmas season when it hoped that red paint for the Wii would deliver a new sales incentive (which it did not: according to Amazon, the red Wii arrived at #57 in the ranks of video game best sellers.)
Has anybody confirmed this rumor or denyed it?

Yes, pre-orders are now available at GS.

$25 - $50 seems to be the average asking point for the pre-order.

$250 is the expected high end range. $200 is the low end range.

The Japanese launch price converts to ~$300 but it's doubtful they'd release it at that price anywhere else.

I'm guessing 200. Any higher than that and price wise it will be competing with the big boys.

My guess puts it at $250. Nintendo has never had a system go for above that much, let alone a handheld above $200. The 3D screen and tech are pretty pricey, but the cameras aren't high-def in the slightest, and the bottom screen is normal. I'd go as far as to say $270. Definitely not $300 or more.

Word is that Wal-mart is completely out of all pre-orders.

We already know that Japan has entirely sold out the first shipment with just pre-orders. Might happen in America too.

@D3adcell: how are the 3DS pre-orders shaping up at your Gamestop? Do you know how many units will be allocated for launch?

I will check next time I work. As far as numbers allocated, no idea. We just take as many pre-orders as we can until corporate takes it off the list and tells us to stop.

    Thanks for looking into it.

I plan to put one on pre-order soon and would hate to do so only to have allocation already filled.

I just thought of a brilliant idea, I think I'm gonna get one for my Wife! That way, I have both systems, and don't have to worry about NGP being awesome and regret buying 3DS. Hmm, my wife isn't really into cutesy stuff though, I'm not sure what to get her for launch.

    Super Street Fighter IV
    Ridge Racer
    Samurai Warriors
    Asphalt
    Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars
    Madden
    Pro Evolution Soccer
    Steel Diver

That's your non-cutesy game US launch day line up.
