This is bound to create plenty of discussion and arguments. The biggest question is, if you remove nostalgia from the equation, is the selection 100% correct...?
So, what say you?UK gamers recently voted for the best PlayStation games of all time and the results were published in the 50th issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine. The poll was conducted to celebrate the brand name's 15th anniversary and as you can see, Naughty Dog's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has claimed the top spot. It was apparently a very close race between this masterpiece and the original Metal Gear Solid but the point is, Uncharted 2 takes the top spot.
1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
2. Metal Gear Solid
3. Final Fantasy VII
4. Grand Theft Auto Vice City
5. Metal Gear Solid 4
6. Metal Gear Solid 3
7. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
8. Shadow Of The Colossus
9. Red Dead Redemption
10. Resident Evil IV
Obviously, we're talking about three full generations here, so it can be tough to pick. Personally, I'm a little surprised that Vice City easily outstripped GTAIII (but I would make the same selection), and I'm also surprised to see RDR and SotC on there. I would've liked to have seen Final Fantasy X, one of the God of Wars, and Twisted Metal: Black, but hey, that's me. Said Ben Wilson, Editor of Official PlayStation Magazine:
"Since it came out in late 2009 we’ve maintained that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the best game not just on PS3 but every console around, so it was little surprise to see our readers vote it the number one PlayStation game of all time. It has everything you could want from an action-adventure, and then some: An engaging story full of cinematic twists, a charismatic and funny lead character, brilliant voice acting, masses of clever gameplay ideas, and a host of strong multiplayer modes. It’s the complete videogame, and much deserving of the top spot."
Also if you make a list dont add every single MGS game. Rather just add only your favourite.
This would probably be my list:
MGS 3
Final Fantasy X
Uncharted 2
SotC
Resi 4
Batman Arkham Asylum
Mass Effect 2
Okami
DMC
GOW 3
Top ten list, MGS4 wouldn't make, neither would RDR and especially not Call of duty. Across all three Playstations though, even though my favorite genre is RPG's it would still be pretty varied. I don't have a number one game though besides MGS--I don't think Uncharted 2 surpassed that level of storytelling, and MGS was done such a long time ago. So here we go..
- Metal Gear Solid
- Final Fantasy Vll
- Devil May Cry
- Legend of Dragoon
- God of War
- Final Fantasy X
- Ico
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Gran Turismo 3
- Metal Gear Solid 3
As great as Uncharted and UC2 is, it doesn't really innovate IMO on classic storytelling games, it simply does it really well with incredible graphics and acting. Since it doesn't really change the formula (there was a lot of talk about in-game storytelling and playing through the scripted sequences) drastically, but sort of builds upon it, I can't really rate it higher than any of those games. It is equal to more than a few of those efforts however, but it doesn't overshadow what's come before it.
Top ten should be taken with a grain of salt as well. I loved Dark Cloud 2 just as much as Gran Turismo 3, but I would rate GT3 higher because of it's polish and features and of course state-of-the-art graphics at the time. A top 20 list would be much easier, and other games worth mentioning like Twisted Metal 2, the first Gran Turismo, Jak and Daxter, etc...

No order just the best series I'm putting down...
1. Uncharted
2. Metal Gear Solid
3. Final Fantasy
4.
To be continued because I really need to think about this one.
MGS3 is superior to MGS4.

MGS3 is superior to every single other MGS game to date![]()
MGS4 was probably the most satisfying, emotionally impactful, and well told gaming experience that I've had in a really really long time. I'd say it takes the top spot in my book. MGS3 was very fun, but didn't really carry the same impact in the story department. MGS4 is what fleshed out MGS3's story and made it memorable. I haven't played an uncharted game however so I can't say anything to their merit.
Final Fantasy VII is right up there with MGS4 for me as well.

I'd have to agree with ^^^

Yeah shit when you talk about emotional moments and the most memorable moment in the MGS saga it would proabbly have to be the face to face with the boss right at the end and Eva's message on the tape.
I thought Kojima came up with some ludicrous stuff to fill some plot holes and close off the saga in MGS4 and i also didnt like the ending. It was just too on the fence for me.
MGS4 had the story. MGS3 had more of everything. Don't get me wrong. I love MGS4. I am left with a little pause that the gameplay takes such a backseat in the second half of the game, though. Granted, that is probably what you expect, but in terms of intense gameplay there's not a whole lot from act two on. MGS3 keeps the game going from start to finish and has some outstanding and memorable boss fights from start to finish. I am also impressed that a game that could have served as nothing more but filler (sort of like the SW prequel trilogy) could not only stand on its own as a game, but also be the link for MGS4 and serve as a lynchpin.
As for the ending, I'll agree with that. They went one scene too far. Shouldn't have been anything post-credits because the ending was note-perfect after the first credit crawl.
For best playstation games, it's close, but I'd give the overall nod to San Andreas over MGS3, Tony Hawk 2 and FFVII with Resident Evil 2 and MGS4 as honorable mentions.
Uncharted 2 is a great game, no question, and definitely one of the best the PS3 has delivered so far. Best PS game ever?

If anything needs a classic update it's the MGS series. I loved MGS3 especially when you get to the confrontation with The Boss, but when I think back to playing through MGS4 it was just so much more memorable for me and that's why I say it's a better game in my eyes.
I can't even complete a top ten list. A few of my favorite games on there were Metal Gear Solid, Legend of Dragoon, Final Fantasy IX, and Chrono Cross.
Those wouldn't necessarily be the top four, but they'd make my list.
Okay... after some thought, and some debate, my top 10 is: (Exclusives, with some minor expections)
1. GTA: San Andreas, PS2, 2004 (an Xbox release later but generally acknowledged as a PS2 title)
2. MGS3: Snake Eater (Subsistence Version), PS2, 2004, 2006
3. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, PS2, 2000 (Same as GTA)
4. Final Fantasy VII, PS-X, 1997
5. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, PS3, 2008
6. Resident Evil 2, PS-X, 1998
7. God of War II, PS2, 2007
8. Castlevania: SOTN, PS-X, 1997
9. Metal Gear Solid, PS-X, 1998
10. Shadow of the Colossus, PS2, 2005
My tenth choice... I dunno. Seemed like a decent bet. Honorable mentions go to Tony Hawk 1, (PS-X), Uncharted 2 (PS3), GoW3 (PS3), MGS2 (PS2), MGS: Peace Walker (PSP).

I think it's almost impossible to make a top10 PS list but I wouldnt put Uncharted 2 even in top100..

4. Dragon Quest VIII
5. Socom 2
6. Mix of THPS4 and THUG
7. Final Fantasy VII
