Surprising. Or maybe not?

Surprising that it's just the first game.
I was really hoping for a ME1 + ME2 collection
And Jan 2011 wtf...I guess that's how long it takes to do a PROPER port.
Not really it's been rumored since EA bought Bioware. It was bound to happen since Mass Effect 3 will most likely be multiplatform. I just bought the first two for PC so I'm not sure if I'm getting it.
Everyone needs to play this game. I hope you guys support it so we can get Mass Effect 3 a year later. Ill definitely be picking it up again for all the bonus content. Im a bit disppointed that they didnt fix and port across Mass Effect 1 but i guess they had some kind of deal with MS when MS published the original.
Also strange to release this in the same month when Dragon Age 2 is also launching on PS3.
What does everyone think is likely regarding the first game? I know I'd buy them both in a heartbeat.

@TimmyJ: Either MS had some kind of exclusive publishing deal for the first or and take it from me the 360 version of Mass Effect was so buggy and full of Frame Rate problems that it would take too much time and money to fix it up for PS3.
Since the engine's all in place and functional for the PS3, wouldn't porting Mass Effect 1 assets to it be fairly easy? Perhaps stick them online akin to the GTA4 episodes.

Well... the engine actually is Unreal Engine, so porting to PS3 should be done within seconds (exaggerating, of course).
Kept you waiting
Well with the frame rate so bad in the 360 version i doubt it would be an easy port especially considering 360 is the easier console to code for.
I really didn't think the frame rate was bad. One or two battles I can think of where it got annoying, but thats very little in the size of the game.
Do me a favour D3adcell and go and play ME 1 for 30 minutes and then ME2 for thirty minutes back to back and go make that statement again. I did that a a week before ME2 released so i could import my perfect character and i was actually freaked out by how badly the game played compared to ME2. The level with the Rachni Queen was almost unplayable at times. Of course its not a PS3 game so no one will report these problems in 360 game reviews but anyone whos honest with themselves will admit that ME 1 ran like shit on 360. ME2 was a dream to play but im guessing thats also because the environments were more linear.
i thought it ran ok. I can remember the framerate going low on certain parts but it wasn't noticeable to take away from the gameplay experience (atleast for me). Sucks the first one won't be ported since it gives value to the second game. I would of prefer that newcomers would had a chance to play both if they haven't already on the 360 or pc already.

Announcement trailer for those that missed it.

and they have "no plans" to port ME1

It sounds like they have a plan to fill you in on the story with the hours and hours of bonus content comment. I wonder what will happen with the importing your character system from ME1 to ME2. Anyways at least they have the voice recorded data files to catch you up on what happened in the first game.
