I've wondered this myself. I do know that FF, KH and DQ are coming to 3DS but the details of each are not final.

DQX seems like a natural thing to at least port to 3DS considering the similar hardware.

Depends on the gameplay utilized. While the 3DS has motion control built in and a stylus, many gesture based actions from the home consoles won't translate well to a touch screen.

If they overcome that problem (or if it's not an issue to start with), then a port would possibly make sense.

I think a better idea would be to create a spin off of DQX for the 3DS that allows you to take your party with you to battle in exclusive dungeons, enemies, against other parties, obtain exclusive items, etc... So instead of splitting sales between the Wii and 3DS editions, you increase your sales by creating a symbiotic pair of software.

I would accept this as sound reasoning were it not for the fact that both Dark Cloud 2 and Rogue Galaxy were two of the best looking cel shaded titles on the PS2. There's no doubt that L-5 can do it. I'm just still scratching my head over why they didn't for WKC...

I don't doubt that they can, but it might be a cost issues. Outsourcing the art to Ghibli might reduce their internal development costs, which as we all know are fairly large for current gen hardware.

The explanation could of course be much simpler in that they may not have wanted to get shoehorned into doing only cell shaded graphics...Dark Cloud, RG, DQVIII, Ninokuni, Layton, all cell shaded. Come to think of it, WKC was one of the only games they made that isn't.

I don't think the original Dark Cloud was cel-shaded. Squarenix you know what to do with DQX, what with Move and all.

  7. Original DC was not cel shaded, yes. It had amazing DOF for a PS2 title, though. I loved it. I also like how you could see the fish in the water during the fishing mini-game. They took that out of DC2 which was a pity.

I feel very safe in saying that if this game comes out stateside, it's going to be my Game of the Year.

And probably a lot of publications' and reviewers' GotY as well.

I wish they'd take a card from the Ultimate Ninja Storm book when it comes to animation, though. Some of the scenes in UNS looked as if they could have been taken exactly from the show (not to mention that they did the awesome story arch with the game's engine; that was beautiful). Everything in that trailer was very fluid, yes, but I love it when it gives off the impression that it's hand-animated. In-game shots looks more like a cel-shaded game than a Ghibli creation, but as soon as that changes, it'll be amazing. If they could give it the Ghibli feel where certain scenes would have the almost-stop-motion look to them, I would probably jizz myself and weep tears of joy.

(I realize I'm nit-picking something extremely minute, but little things like that would make it seem more like a movie and end up overwhelming me)

I know exactly what you mean...

I was so disappointed watching the latest Naruto Shippuden fights...The animation really makes it a terrible show now. The little stuff makes all the difference.

Ni no Kuni, a joint project being worked on by Level 5 and animation legends Studio Ghibli, will be released in Western markets, Level 5's CEO has confirmed.

Speaking with Nintendo Power, Akihiro Hino says that his company is looking at increasing the number of games released in the US and Europe, with specific examples including football RPG series Inazuma Eleven and Ni no Kuni, which is due to appear on both the DS and PlayStation 3.

Inazuma might do OK now that its accompanying anime series is being shown in the West, but it's Ni no Kuni that most of you will be excited about.

Well they do now have an actual U.S office so localization should, in theory at least, be faster.
