just picked it up. only 4 more hours until i get home and start playing.
It had a pretty good Japanese launch. 160k sold. But the European launch is going to fail badly. GAME was unable to buy advance purchase units so they have no units for sale (same gos for any new title). Hopefully the US launch does well.
Over 500k sold. Twice as good as the RE on the original DS and much better than RE: The Mercenaries 3D. This is really good considering how messed up the European launch was (GAME didn't stock the title) and the the US launch also had some issues such as GameStop being the official distributor of the Circle Pad Pro and they underestimated demand by a long shot (they only ordered a few thousand units total which sold out instantly and they have to wait until mid May to get more).
Hm... as far as I know, Game is just a UK retail store... so "affecting Europe" is a bit much. If Media Markt or something went under, that'd be a much bigger disaster, as it's available all over Europe (but is no gamestore).
But it's understandable that this game sold a lot more than the others you mentioned. Mercs was an appendix from RE2-5, which, sold as a sole game, doesn't offer a whole lot... and the mess with "no resale" etc did its job, too. And... RE on DS is news to me (though, since I don't follow handhelds anymore, it's nothing eye opening either).
Revelations looks (from the QB QL) like an adequate RE title... not perfect by any means, but RE hasn't been perfect in a long while... so it's ok, I guess.

Yeah... and Game is how many percent of the UK market? 10? 20? 30? Probably not THAT much, since they did go under.

GAME was easily half of the UK market. They went under not because of lack of sales or revenue but because they were hedging all their profits onto used games and since sales are currently down (tail end of a console generation) it hit them hard.
So... half of 25 to 30 percent of an original markets 50, with a priority to used sales, make it a "messed up launch"? I don't think so... it's not as if other stores didn't have it in stock either, mind you. Even if Game had such a big market share (which I don't know), if a person wants it, or sees it, he will buy it where he can get it. A limited visibility in a Game store might've lowered sales, sure, but I'd NEVER call it "messing up the launch". If that REALLY was the case, then how about ME3 sales in Europe? Game didn't (iirc) stock that either... how did that turn out? Or several others games which Game didn't stock?
ANYWAYS... I simply don't think that a game like this will ever sell massively well on a handheld. It's just not a game targetted (as in demography, not design) at a handheld. The same is true (imho) for Uncharted on Vita. Those games aren't set out to be on a handheld from the get go.
