Thread: Super Nintendo vs. Sega Genesis...your pick and why

I still have my original Game Boy sans battery cover. I have owned almost every model of Game Boy. The original, the Pocket (Ice Blue!), Color, Advance, and SP. Never owned a Micro or that Light one that was never released stateside.

I had a Game Gear as well and I thought it was pretty fucking sweet. Backlit screen and a bunch of colors. I remember flying to Arizona when I was 7 and swapping games with the kid sitting next to me. Good times. The Game Gear had two major problems. 1) It wasn't exactly portable. 2) 6 AA Batteries.
The Game Boy was probably better overall since it, eventually became portable. I would play that in 5th grade without any complaints from the teacher. Most of my free time in 5th grade was dedicated to Link's Awakening. The Pocket was a good improvement over the original model.

Speaking of Game Gear, does anyone recall seeing it in Surf Ninjas and Rumble in the Bronx? I guess in Surf Ninjas this kid was playing the movie on the Game Gear and it showed him the future. Some kid was playing one in Rumble in the Bronx but it didn't have a game in it.

There was a third major problem, which was the sound. A lot of Game Gears had a defect, which meant the sound would stop working. It didn't happen to all, but a very large number.

But the batteries was the worst of all. Having to spend more on batteries than you would on games was just ridiculous.

i remember Surf Ninja. By using the gamegear, he could control the protagonist by choosing what items he could use around him to fight badguys, and the result would show on the game gear as well.

In Rumble in the Bronx, the crippled kid was playing the empty game gear.

Jackie Chan gave the kid his Game Gear as the boy was leaving for school. He was seen 'playing' it twice after that.

  5. OT, but kinda related to the above...

Next time I end up in Pennsylvania, there's this market in Pottstown, I have to find a Turbo-Express, a SEGA Nomad, a Virtual Boy, a NeoGeo Pocket Color, and a working Game Gear. I still have a lot of collecting before my portables are complete. Already have a Wonderswan Color... Anybody else think of any portables?

Wasn't there some handheld made by Tiger? I know they've much a bunch of smaller handhelds but there was one they made that actually used cartridges. There's also the NeoGeo Pocket (the non-color version).

I think the tiger one was called game.com

  10. Plenty of good suggestions - I think I may pick up an old Gamepark32 if I can find one too... and I think I remember a tiny handheld found at Gamestop which came preloaded with a few games (which apparently was hackable enough to run emulators).
