I can name you at least 20 SNES games that are better than all of those games listed. I would do it now, but I'm on my iPhone so that would be more time than I'm willing to spend on this debate.

Not really... Most games from that gen have aged better than the N64/PS1 era. Regardless of being on SNES/Genesis. And there are quite a few SNES games that haven't aged gracefully either... So again it goes both ways.

Did you even HAVE a Genesis at the time? Because if so, you surely wouldn't say something like this.

Anyways... this is getting to moronic for me here... I am out!

Then don't start something you're not willing to finish. If you're not going to actually play some of those games, then don't bother spouting your ignorant opinion. All I was doing was providing you with good games that weren't related to Sonic (another rather ignorant opinion you've displayed), and it turns into a "NO BUT MINE IS BETTAR!" discussion. ¬_¬

    haha

    for the most part, yeah.

Super Metroid, is in my mind, one of the pinnacle 2D games ever created. Still holds up brilliantly today...I can say this as I played it after Metroid Prime and Fusion.

Desired: Zelda Wii, Batman Arkham, 3DS
    Present: Mass Effect 2
    Future: None.

Released in 2006, here is the list of Genesis games and SNES games from EGM's top 200 games of all time. It was the first such list I came across. I did not hunt for numbers that suited me. Also, keep in mind I may not necessarily agree with all of these rankings. They averaged the ranking of their 10 writers at the time, so this is a good way to test this theory. It's no one person's pick. This does not include multiplatform titles. Unless of course they thought that the experience was MUCH better on a certain console. I think the only game on here that may fit that tag is MKII. I thought it was on Genesis as well, but I wasn't sure.

I typed it all into Excel to run some numbers...I just finally got time to sit down at a computer. Been working like crazy and getting started in my new school semester. So fuck you Kiwi and Segitz. Or whatever your name is. Get off my balls because I don't have time to argue against two people who obviously don't know what they're talking about. This is a third party list, so I don't want to hear bitching after I hand you your asses. I've heard people say shit about processor speed, etc. Who gives a fuck. Systems are about games. The DreamCast was a phenom system, and was the most powerful system of it's time (if I recall correctly) and it was bounced faster than a fat chick trying to get in a club. And I say that having LOVED the DreamCast.

These are all of the Genesis games on the list. Matched with where they were rated in the top 200. 1 being the best game, 200 being the worst a game can do on this list. Keep in mind that this list is from 2006, so this is against every console not including this generation, including arcade titles and hand held games.

    45 John Madden Football
    49 NHL Pa Hockey' 93
    56 Sonic The Hedgehog
    84 Gunstar Heroes
    97 Phantasy Star 2
    102 Landstalker
    129 Revenge of Shinobi
    136 Phantasy Star 4
    158 Herzog Zwei
    159 Ecco the Dolphin
    176 FlashBack

As you can see, the Genesis games fared pretty well. They landed 11 games in the top 200. The average DreamCast game ranking was 108.27 repeating. So about 108. Genesis games made up 5.5% of the lists total. Pretty good for a console that came out in January 1989.

Now, to the SNES games. The SNES came out almost two years after the Genesis. So that's two years of less games it had. And it had those less games on an "inferior" CPU. Just keep that in mind during this shelacking.

    19 Super Mario Kart
    23 Super Metroid
    24 Tetris Attack
    29 Final Fantasy 2
    36 Final Fantasy 3
50 The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
    59 Super Bomberman
    69 F-Zero
    70 Mortal Kombat 2
    74 Chrono Trigger
    83 Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
    88 Super Mario World
    103 Super Mario RPG
    115 Star Fox
    144 International Super Star Soccer
    152 Cybornator
    199 Super Castlevania 4

The SNES has 17 games on the list. The average ranking for an SNES game is 78.647. So 79. As a side note, when I added up the rankings for the SNES, the total number was 1337, farther proving my point that the SNES was an ELITE console.

Off the top of my head, I can think of several games that I would have had VERY high up this list that weren't on there for the SNES. And I know, there are several more for Genesis as well.

A few funny facts that I saw...

The SNES only had 1 fewer title in the top 200 than all Sega systems that weren't named DreamCast combined.

The SNES had more games than the PS2.

The SNES and the PS1 tied with 17 games on this list.

Not including arcade titles, the NES had the most games on the list at 24.

So there are my uneducated, biased, unfounded statements on why the SNES shits all over the Genesis in the console wars. And then shits on its mother.

EDIT: I have this information saved in an Excel 2007 file. If someone wants to examine it, PM me with your email and I'll send it. Now I have to go take a shit and eat breakfast.

Well, you completely missed the point of my post. I was never trying to say that one was better than another. Just trying to point out some good Mega Drive games. But no, you have to become a prick about it, and turn things into a pissing contest.

    Good work.

Your argument was that the Genesis had good games. My argument was that the SNES had not only more games, but better games.

Don't be mad that I succeeded.

    Wow, this is something...

The only thing I was trying to point out was that your statement about the Mega Drive having nothing outside of Sonic was ignorant, which it is. So I pointed out some good games that weren't to do with Sonic.

Yet, somehow, you've seen this as a slight against the SNES, so you've gone on a conquest to prove that it's better. A point, by the way, which never needed proving. I know the SNES has better games, it's pretty obvious when you look at the games. But was this a point that needed to be proven? Nope. But you went and did it anyway, even though it had nothing to do with what I was talking about.

I wasn't only doing this for you. Don't be so selfish.

And it's obvious I was doing this for fun, not to be a prick. So stop taking the Internet so personally.

You aimed it at me, so I'm going to respond.

and do you think I really care about this? But I do love that whenever somebody gets called out on something, they're so quick to pull the "durp, it's the Internet" card. You've spent more time trying to argue this point than anybody else, so who's taking it seriously?

    Anyway, I'm done. Enjoy.

Alright ladies, I think since having a civil discussion about the Genesis vs. Super Nintendo is very impossible we should just change topics.

Game Boy vs. Game Gear. (or, Nintendon handhelds vs. SEGA handhelds). GO!

  17. #57
Does that one even need to be contested?

I still have my original brick GameBoy, in perfect working condition

Sega Nomad would win if it had a battery life that lasted and I owned one.

I have two Gameboys^^ I don't even know where the second one came from^^ Seriously... I just ended up having two :P

Anyways... a friend of mine (HUGE Sega fan back in the day) had a GameGear with some games (Sonic, MK2...) and I thought, it was a good system. Especially since it was compatible with MS games... not that it was practical by any means (huge cartridges), but it worked. So you basically had 2 sources of games. Sadly, the battery life sucked ass (though, I usually never play games when on the road, as I suffer from motion sickness when I read or play while driving).

The Gameboy was my first (own) console... Man, Contra (or Probotector, how it was called here) was hard... Mega Man 2 was great. Turtles (something with "Back to the Sewers" or so) was very good too... Simpsons SUCKED (bad controls...). I !!LOVED!! the WWF games on the Gameboy (was a huge wrestling fan back then, as a kid, when I didn't know it was all faked^^), and still do (well also on the Genesis and PS2, but not as much as on the Gameboy). Gargoyles Quest, Mario 2 and Wario. I am sure I forgot same games. But those were the ones I own(ed... since I lost some or whatever^^).

I say Amiga 500 vs. Atari ST (yeah, no real contest either :P)
