I have a Japanese Mario and it works on my GBA... Thing is, I'm not sure if my GBA is Japanese or American (damn ebay)

American games work on it though

There is no regioncy check on Game Boy Advanced. You can play any region game on any region GBA.

    What about the cartridges themselves?
are they not a different shape from each other?

  8. No, because when i was in Phillippines I saw Japanese carriges same size. BTW anybody heard of gameboy light its in Japanese saw it in phillippines too.

All the same size. Nintendo for some reason or another decided not to put any regioncy lockouts on GBA. It might of been that way with GB and GBC but I dont remember.

Uhkuc... DO u even know what a region lockout is? The reason GameCube's dont work cross region, is because they are made for different Televisions... I think, that Japan is region 7, and US is region 5... but thats just an educated guess.

With the GBA they are all the same, all games work everywhere.

Both Japan and USA use NSTC format. The only format that is diffrent is PAL (European)

They put region locks to keep sales of US games in US, Japan games in Japan, and Europe games in Europe. And also to avoid Piracy (at least with CD based systems case).

If your TV theory was true, then how comes Japanese games work fine on a US Genesis or SNES and N64 with no Mod Chip? (Just alter the casing)

I'm not sure why Nintendo decided to leave region lockouts off on the GameBoy. But hey its good for us import gamers

Ummm... no. What i meant was, that US and Japan have a different Region Code. It's not something that has just been wacked on the GameCube to stop sales in other countries... Its the same with DVD's... Japans DVD's are made for whatever region number they are (7 i think)... likewise for US DVDs

Also the matter of PAL and NTSC isnt a region lockout, they are completely different formats.

But what i am trying to get at is why in all hell they would the put a lockout on a GBA? I mean Nintendo could have put some sort of lock on them, but it has nothing to do with that countries format. Would have been a complete waste of money.
