Today Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing International announced that it will be publishing Die Hard GameCube in Europe. Under license from Fox Interactive, Die Hard for GameCube is set for release sometime during 2002. The original announcement slated the title's release for Q3 2002. Note that the temporary name seems to have changed from "Die Hard: Next Generation" to simply "Die Hard."
"We are delighted to have completed this deal with Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing International," says Foo Katan, Managing Director and CEO of Bits Studios. "With a title as important as Die Hard, it was important that we picked a partner with the necessary muscle to do the game justice -- and VUIPI is just the company. Die Hard GameCube will really push the first-person action adventure genre into new ground. With VUIPI on board, we aim to set new standards by which all others will be judged -- both critically and commercially."
Vivendi says the first-person shooter will be "unlike any other." How so? The developers say it features a completely original plot, "way ahead of anything in development, with its narrative twisting and turning to an explosive conclusion." Even non-player characters will play an integral role in the adventure, spicing up the plot. It takes place several years after the events in Die Hard: With a Vengeance, letting gamers blast through places like Nakatomi Plaza (now completely finished).
To add further polish to the movie-based gameplay Die Hard will include powerful cinematic effects inspired by The Matrix. As John McClane you will have a wealth of moves ranging from "stealthily capturing terrorists and forcing enemies to disarm, to running into team fights with guns blazing and saving hostages." And since Die Hard is being designed specifically for GameCube the controls will draw on the resources of the controller, making for a compelling console first-person shooter experience.
We'll have more information on Die Hard for GameCube in the near future.
