I went to a nearby Chpaters to day and was browsing ( since i am to cheap to buy) threw the gaming magazines and looked through any ones that mentioned gamecube. and within one of the articles it stated how much GCN lsoe sper console . I do belive it is somwehre around 83$ I THINK, niot 100% sure, but its within a few bucks of that. Also it said in the article, they got 90% profit from each game, now that is amazing.
i'm going back to morrow to pick up the mag and i totally forgot the name , so please dont call me a liar about the above info!
for a little help it was one of the usual gaming mags. so stay tuned!!!
I heard it was around $40, but if you saw it in a mag. it is from a better source than mine, but that's still not as bad as x-box or PS2.
hell yeah
I could be wrong but I believe GCXL stated that it was $20 a while back.
thats great that means nintendo can keep making systems 4 ever sense they don't lose alot of money after selling each console.
I hope it is only $20 but for some reason it dosent seem likely, but then again Nintendo didnt opt to go with all the DVD/Harddrive stuff so it might be, lets hope so.
the chips of the gc aren't cheap but the rest isn't expensieve and cheaper then the ps2 and the xbox, so nintendo will definatly lose less than sony and ms.
actually the more they lose the more you get,its only 'better' for the compagny to not lose alot.
one arguement of extreme 'fanboys' is how greedy ms is but they are the ones losing $150 a console just to make them affortable
the more a company looses/console means higher chance of failure(not necessarily but think about it)...just pointing that out![]()

true, but for any system if the games don't sell and the console itself does not sell then that will determine the failure rate
gc will be bought anyway.
Manufacturers have always sold consoles at a loss, the profit is made from games sales.
The reason the PS2 is still rediculously expensive is that people buy it as a DVD player & only buy the occasional game.
Since the GCN is easy to develop for and compared to the other consoles it's dirt cheap, hopefully it will shift enough units. As with all consoles, it come's down to the quality of the games and not pointless add-ons like HDDs. The games will sell![]()
there is nothing pointless about a HDD and what it means to gaming
of course 10 years ago it may have been fine to think that, but things advance, and if they stay the same everything become dull and stagnant
thus i appreciat MS for taking console gaming to a new level, god know Nintendo was too afraid as well as SONY
Using hard drives is a step back for gaming, not a step forward. GCN will work fine with it's little disks thank you very much![]()
The was an OpticalDrive, not a HDD, and it never really got of the ground cause the N64 never really got of the ground in terms of sales.
No loading of games done with the MS HDD, it is automatic and the game is automatically removed when you are done playing.
Please get your facts straight before you continue.
Obviously if the GC had a HDD you wouldn't be complainging. With the GC you are pretty much getting the same thing you were getting with the NES, just better graphics.
You lack of knowledge about what HDD can do pretty much sums up your entire argument and really doesn't make you look to good.
If the GCN had all the unnessecary additions like hard drives & DVD playback like the other consoles are offering it would be more expensive & harder to develop for.
I wouldn't be complaining because I won't be excited about it in the first place, but since the GCN is the only console deicated to gaming, plus the fact that it will be much cheaper than xbox & PS2 I'm looking forward to getting it.
I admit that my knowledge of the xbox hard drive isn't perfect but my point was the money Nintendo makes comes from the games & not the hardware.
i have already pointed out the fallacy of the price points found on each system, and XBox is really a bargain
and the GC after more thought should really be about $150, I mean, what really are you getting with it but a game console?
So I think $199 is a little high.
The HDD is making things easier for developers, thought you'd like to know, now they can stream textures.
A DVD drive has no affect on programming, thought you'd like to know that as well.
So having the x'tra options the XBox has, has no affect on programming what so ever. Not sure how you came to that conclusion, but it's not true.
Never said it would, but it bumps the price upOriginally posted by BigSky

CGN is still easier to code for, despite the terrible fact that it can't stream textures...(note: sarcasm)Originally posted by BigSky

Btw, where did you get $199? I'm not disputing that this prices is real (not yet anyway), I'd be interested to know where you saw that
GC is $199 common fact.
Been known since E3.

yes you did day it was harder develop for, as you can see your quote above
