Some nay-sayers, not here, but elsewhere, were saying MS might have some problems with the immenent break up of MS.
The financial burden alone, would have been enough to have MS possibly re-evaluate their XBox stance.
Now that MS is not breaking up, at least not anytime soon, XBox is even stronger than ever going towards launch day.

If MSFT broke up I believe Xbox would of gone through anyways.
Also it's not a full victory for MSFT. AG John Ashcroft declared victory on behalf of DoJ since it was upheld by the appeals court Microsoft upheld an illegal monopoly and took illegal measures to keep that. When the case is sent down to an inferior court the possibility still remains. Also repremands are not permanent so once again breakup has not been ruled out all together.
i dont see how a breakup at all could affect the xbox.. gates has enough money to spread around even if ms did break up..
besides whether msft breaks up or not wont change the fact that they still havent finalized their system.. and if it isnt finalized yet.. how can they produce enough systems by november?? id say that with every day that passes that msft hasnt announced they have finalized their hardware, the launch of the xbox looks shakier and shakier
The hardware's been finalized since E3. Developers have a good 5 months to port the code from the previous dev. kits and optimize it to run on the Xbox. Thats plenty of time for such an easy process.Originally posted by simps

First of all, the price is $299.99 USD, Neo.
Second(I'm not directing this at you, Neo. But rather the people who constantly talk a lot of trash about the Xbox), why is it that the people who really, really dispise the Xbox and hate everything about it, dont really know anything about it?... when I say "anything", I'm talking about price, hardware, software, the Xbox Team's strategy/goals... All that crap. I've just gotten into a couple of debates with people today who hated the Xbox, but didn't know anything about it... It just kinda pissed me off.
why would anyone buy the GC for $350?
and it doesn't even come with a controller???
who said its selling for 350$ and who said it's being released without a contoller?? its going for $199.99Originally posted by BigSky

and to temjin -- im not talking about the software converting.. but producing the hardware...
{{{{flashback to last year's PS2 launch))))
Unless microsoft has some ass-fast production, they might not get an ample supply of systems out at launch... so you can either be like sony and bite the loss, or push back the release.. unless XBOX's system sale numbers are so low that it wouldnt make a difference.. but that's unlikely
ass-fast... Never heard that before. o_o;
I think MS plans to have 800,000 units ready at launch. I think thats fine if you consider this is MS's first try at a console with no real fanbase. If they sell all 800,000 units, I would be quite impressed.
yeah but will they get that many made?? lol like you said earlier about not knowing anything well i dont know anything about msft's monthly production numbers..
but i know one thing.. PS2 sold 500,000 errr ahem lol 510,000 units it's first week.. if XBOX is planning on leading the market.. they arent going to do it until their next shipment (which gives GCN an edge) cause those 300,000 units should be gone after the next two weeks
cause just suppose that xbox and nintendo sell about the same in those three weeks, nintendo i believe will have more units at launch and thus when potential xbox buyers come in asking for an xbox, they may get referred to a gcn which is cheaper and looks about the same.. then the clerk will plop in their faces some shots of mario or some other huge title and thats that.. seriously the shots technique works.. i was just in a software etc.. a few weeks ago, and this like 35 year old black guy was asking about xbox, the clerk told him that it was a good system, a tad on the expensive side, then he says, 'but let me show you this...' he pulls out a mag with rogue leader screens the dude is like wow! he says the system will be 100 bucks cheaper and it looks this good. the dude (and 4 other who gathered around for this presentation) plops down the 50 bucks to reserve a GCN.. this scenario wont be the case for EVERYONE but it will occur, im sure of it

Well I guess it depends if MS has the 800,000 units ready at launch or not. But even if they do I seriously doubt that it will effect the Gamecube all that much, if at all.but i know one thing.. I don't know what kinda road you're going down but GCN's $199.95 and comes with a controller. Not to mention $100 saved as opposed to you know who. No wonder why you're so anti-Nintendo-you really don't know what you're talking about my boy.Originally posted by BigSky

if you read the thread you would see it's a response was to the neo-geo
i will ingore you the rest of your useless flame bait
The judge won't split those basterds because Microsloth more than likely slipped him a bribe. It's a crying shame when a company like this just throws money at every little problem they face. At least they won't see profits off of X-box until 2005 if they see profits at all. In the best case scenario the company will split, and X-box will be crushed.
You call that a flame?Originally posted by BigSky

The bottom line is that it all comes down to the games and Nintendo is marketing for kids, even Sega said that that is how they will decide what console get what game.

Peter Moore, President of Sega of America
"But ultimately, our developers are smart enough to understand, that it's not so much what they like, but it's what the content--how it fits the demographic--and I think that, a year from now, we'll be looking very closely at what the demographics of each platform are, and what, you know, what they're bringing different to each gamer. And it may well be that Xbox has fully fleshed out what the hard drive brings, and that our studios start moving towards Xbox more aggressively, because they like the opportunity the hard drive brings.....And then it may be what GameCube brings from a demographic perspective as we have some content that maybe skews just a tad younger, then it may well be more applicable to bring out particular content in GameCube"
Nintendo has some nice games but only a few that I would want to play.
With 3 times as many games in the works for Xbox(Count them on Gamespot.com) I have found a much better value in spending money on the Xbox. RPGs and FPSs are my favorite type of games and the Xbox has more going for it than the GC. I will even buy the remote for DVD play and move my current DVD player into my bed room since the Xbox will be a progressive scan DVD player.
link for progressive scan on Xbox since on one of Pretendo's other posts he stated that it probably was not.
