Debate: PS4: 2.5" or 3.5" HDD?

Just wondering. It might be fun to guess before the system's full reveal at E3.

Using a 2.5" HDD, like the one found on PS3, makes sense due to its physical size and weight. Power consumption is lower, making them cooler. They need to ship lots of systems, which would make it easier if they were smaller and featured a smaller heatsink and package weight thanks to that. Rumor has it that it'll feature an external PSU as well, by the way.

However, take into account that developers need to fill 8 GB of RAM quickly, and the system will feature continuous video caching in the background. Faster 3.5" drives seem proper for this kind of task, although they might be a bit too big and heavy to be practical.

Now, there's some middle-ground: a slim, half-height and half-weight 3.5" HDD. They could be as big and capable as their whole size counterparts, yet they're smaller.

I don't think Sony considers external drives as main drives, or SSDs (not at launch anyway).

Thoughts?

By the way, did we ever have a post edit history feature? It sucks when you lose a few paragraphs and you've got to rewrite everything.

They might announce GT6 for PS3, since it has been rumored for a while already. Or maybe cross-gen? :cowboy:

This month Sony shared with us its plans to make indie gaming an integral part of the PS4's ecosystem. We outlined some of the first indie games that will appear on the PS4 in the latest issue of Game Informer, but still had a ton of content left over to share with readers.

Below you'll find more information on five new indie games that are coming to Sony's systems. Each preview contains new screens and information about the game, plus a Q&A with the creators, discussing the projects in their own words and describing what it's like to be working with Sony. We also have our full interview with Sony's vice president of publisher and developer relations, Adam Boyes. Boyes outlines how Sony is changing its approach to working with indie developers, and shares what the PS4 will offer smaller studios.
