Could be a very active season this year:

---Quote---
For the six-month hurricane season, which begins June 1, NOAA’s Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook says there is a 70 percent likelihood of 13 to 20 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 7 to 11 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 3 to 6 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of 111 mph or higher).

With the success of Far Cry 3 and its even more amazing 80's themed DLC, Blood Dragon, it looks like Ubisoft may be restoring its original 2004 PC-exclusive Far Cry as an XBLA and PSN game.

A listing for Far Cry HD has appeared on Brazil's rating classification board (via VG Leaks), wherein it's listed as coming to Xbox 360 and PS3.

When asked about this, Ubisoft fed us the usual "we don't comment on rumours or speculation" line. Make of that what you will.

Spec Analysis: PS4 VS Xbox One

I have been waiting for this. Please leave the gameplay is king arguments at the door!

---Quote---
In terms of the GPU hardware, hard information was difficult to come by, but one of the engineers did let slip with a significant stat - 768 operations per clock. We know that both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are based on Radeon GCN architecture and we also know that each compute unit is capable of 64 operations per clock. So, again through a process of extrapolation from the drip-feed of hard facts, the make-up of the One's GPU is confirmed - 12 compute units each capable of 64 ops/clock gives us the 768 total revealed by Microsoft and thus, by extension, the 1.2 teraflop graphics core. So that's another tick on the Durango leaked spec that has been transposed across to the final Xbox One architecture and* the proof we need that PlayStation 4's 18 CU graphics core has 50 per cent more raw power than the GPU in the new Microsoft console. Now, bearing in mind that we fully expect PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to launch at similar price-points, how did this disparity come about?*

The answer to that comes down to a specific gamble Sony made that Microsoft could not - the utilisation of a unified pool of GDDR5 memory. In the early days of PS4 development, only 2GB of this type of memory looked viable for a consumer-level device. As higher density modules became available, this was duly upgraded to 4GB. By the time of the reveal back in February, *Sony had confidence that it could secure volume of 512MB modules and surprised everyone (even developers) by announcing that PS4 would ship with 8GB of unified GDDR5 RAM. The design of its surrounding architecture would not need to change throughout this process - one set of 16 GDDR5 chips would simply be swapped out for another.*

*Microsoft never had the luxury of this moving target. With multimedia such a core focus for its hardware, it set out to support 8GB of RAM from day one (at the time giving it a huge advantage over the early PS4 target RAM spec) and with serious volume of next-gen DDR4 unattainable in the time window, it zeroed in on supporting DDR3 and doing whatever was necessary to make that work on a console. *The result is a complex architecture - 32MB of ESRAM is added to the processor die, along with "data move engines" to courier information around the system as quickly as possible with bespoke encode/decode hardware to alleviate common bottlenecks.* Bottom line: if you're wondering why Xbox One has a weaker GPU than PlayStation 4, it's because both platform holders have similar silicon budgets for the main processor - Sony has used the die-space for additional compute units and ROPs (32 vs. 16 in One), while Microsoft has budgeted for ESRAM and data move engines instead.* From the Xbox perspective, it's just unfortunate for Microsoft that Sony's gamble paid off - right up until the wire, it was confident of shipping with twice the amount of RAM as PlayStation 4.

After suffering with quite a few poorly performing multi plat games like Skyrim, Fallout and Mass Effect 3 on my console ( PS3 ) of choice this gen, i think many will see where i am coming from and be really really happy about this news assuming PS4 will be your next gen console of choice.

So i ask two questions:

- Is the madness around having the best OS possible really worth it at the expense of the games? I am looking at you both masteratt + OmniStalgic

- We now know that the PS4 GPU is more powerful and we know that MS uses around 3GB for the OS. At the moment it is only rumoured that PS4 uses 1GB for its OS. Assuming all that is true then exactly how big is the gap between Xbox One and PS4 for multi plats?

interesting talk...Would an Android Vita really have sold more? Sony seem to be waiting just like fans for a developer to light a fire under Vita's ass lol...as long as the platform is supported though I'm sure we'll get some hits...I'm surprised more developers aren't trying to claim that spot, there have been some success stories on Vita already...

My list:

- The obvious ones would be anything from Naughty Dog and Kojima.

- Then i can't wait to see how Dragon Age 3 turns out. They have had almost double the dev time that ME3 and DA2 had so i am expecting something really special.

- Sony Bend's new Vita Title.

- It is about time we finally saw Ready at Dawn's new IP that has been in development forever.

- Improbable but i would shit bricks if Persona 5 pitched up finally.

- The Last Guardian for next gen finally please Sony!

- More on Monolith Soft's X RPG.

- Whatever Retro are working on. Please be Metroid or a new IP and not DK.

- More Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk gameplay please!

- Infamous: Second son gameplay.

- Lots of new IP's obviously.

- Hopeful but unrealistic would be Mirror's Edge 2, Doom 4, Fallout 4, LA Noire 2 and Red Dead 3 all for next gen.

What are you guys excited about for E3?

If we have this already my bad.

Just wanted to post about Carmageddon 1 being released on Android/iOS.

It's probably one of the best versions of the games out there. I'm not sure in what way the content is different/same, but in terms of how easy it is to setup it's probably by far the easiest of any version.

There's a demo version, and a paid version of the game.

Fantastic version of the game and hell yes go try it now! Works great on LG Nexus 4.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=3IiSzxHfR5U

"Intuitive" is a great word, because the controls are fantastic.

P.S. Swipe two fingers towards the center of the screen to restart your car (or press back button, then use the menu to do the same thing), I didn't know that for the first few minutes playing lol.

Debate: PS4: 2.5" or 3.5" HDD?

Just wondering. It might be fun to guess before the system's full reveal at E3.

Using a 2.5" HDD, like the one found on PS3, makes sense due to its physical size and weight. Power consumption is lower, making them cooler. They need to ship lots of systems, which would make it easier if they were smaller and featured a smaller heatsink and package weight thanks to that. Rumor has it that it'll feature an external PSU as well, by the way.

However, take into account that developers need to fill 8 GB of RAM quickly, and the system will feature continuous video caching in the background. Faster 3.5" drives seem proper for this kind of task, although they might be a bit too big and heavy to be practical.

Now, there's some middle-ground: a slim, half-height and half-weight 3.5" HDD. They could be as big and capable as their whole size counterparts, yet they're smaller.

I don't think Sony considers external drives as main drives, or SSDs (not at launch anyway).

Thoughts?

By the way, did we ever have a post edit history feature? It sucks when you lose a few paragraphs and you've got to rewrite everything.

Thread for AAA devs?

Hey guys,

This is something I've been knocking around for a while. With the way discussions happen around here, to me seems it might be worthy to have a thread for the 'big boys'. Rockstar, ND, Bethesda etc.

It seems a game thread for them isn't enough, nor is a whole separate thread worthy (one for game, one for dev). We seem to talk about these guys' past games, their practices and their visions most of the time we go into their their current thread (i.e: TLOU). So maybe we can have a thread for an AAA studio and can update the title to be i.e: "Rockstar - GTAV" to show what they are working on currently. As I can't remember the last time AAA dev had two games (publicly) developing.

Click The Last Of Us thread or last couple of pages of GTAV to see what I mean and why I think it's worthy to label the thread after the developer, not just the game.

Let me know what you guys think.
