• Microsoft Studios Acquires Gears Of War IP

Microsoft Studios has announced that they have acquired the Gears Of War IP from Epic Games and tasked Black Tusk studio to do a new game in the series. Microsoft Studios now has control of all existing games and assets and the rights to continue the franchise on their own.

Former Director of Production of Epic Rod Fergussen is also coming aboard to oversee production of the new game. Bit surprising considering Take-Two announced that he would oversee the a new studio in the Bay Area which seems to have falling through.

Many might remember that Black Tusk was announced to be doing a new IP at E3 but that seems to have been been dropped in favor of a new Gears game and now consider the teaser shown at E3 to be a concept piece and not an actual game.

I wonder how much they paid.

Good move by MS, Gears still very capable of being a system seller, unless The Order steals some of it's thunder, seems to be a Gears in different skin type of game, could win over fans of the gritty third person shooter genre.

                  Dude? Just No!

Is that what you are expecting from The Order? Ready at Dawn are a little more thoughtful than that.

Well for me this isn't big news really. I always associated Gears of War as a MS only IP. Never imagined it shifting to multiplat at all (discounting the PC port). I'm disappointed that the Black Tusk video shown at E3 became nothing before it had a chance and now they're bound to creating these games. Epic really made what Gears was, be interesting to see how and if they develop it to any decent standard.

What do you mean, it's very similar to Gears in camera perspective and I feel that's a compliment honestly.

I'm not speaking to the whoring of the franchise (or the terrible "dude bro" themes and acting) and how by Judgement, even the fans were tired of the series. But Gears basically represented the first "next-gen" experience for me. I've never played anything like it before, was a fantastic take on the Resident Evil 4 style combat with it's own flair.

Story, acting, setting, and definitely gameplay elements will certainly be drastically different for the Order, but it has the potential to fulfill that first "next-gen" experience in my book. Infamous and Titan Fall to a certain extent as well, but The Order just looks completely next-gen from screen shots so far, can't wait to see it in motion.

All will be revealed soon. Trust me. This will not be anything like Gears of War. Third person and a cover system will just about be the only thing they have in common.

i would be disappointed if it has more in common than those two elements lol...

Just saying Gears followed by Uncharted, started Next-gen for me. Hopefully the Order is something special as well...

Based on what? This is their first original game. God of War, Okami, and Daxter don't prove a lot to me. I want to believe, but they've got to show it first, we haven't seen an iota of gameplay yet.

I really hope this next gears of war game sucks bad. Think it was stupid of MS to invest so much money into a franchise that has not changed much from the first installment. 3 and judgement were kind of bad.

Also the fact that they took a studio that was working on a new IP and gave them gears of war. Even if Phil Spencer says they were not working on a new IP, you don't pay that many people at a development studio over a years salary to sit on their ass and do nothing.

This was the new IP they were working on. They called it a franchise on the scale of Halo. Now suddenly it was just a concept

                  It looks kind of cool.

Tbh I think they shelved it because they probably found out spending money on the game vs. marketing... they would rather take marketing.
