E-mpire - Wii U Controller Redesign Gets Leaked
              • Wii U Controller Redesign Gets Leaked

A QA Tester from TT Games, makers of the LEGO series of games, recently posted on Twitter a picture of a newly designed Wii U controller. Soon after, the Twitter account that posted the picture has since been deleted.

As you can see from the picture above, the most noticeable difference between this new model and the one shown at E3 are the use of raised analog sticks, instead of the 3DS-like circle pads. There are also a few arrangements of other pieces, like the plus and minus buttons appearing under the face buttons. There's also the placement of the Wii U logo on the controller, perhaps indicating that Wii U might be the console's final name.

                Wii U Controller Shown At E3 2011

This controller could most likely be from a dev kit, and not entirely represent what the final design of the Wii U controller will be. It's also quite similar to an earlier design concept of the Wii U controller.

E3 2012 is just a couple weeks away, so we'll find out soon just what the final design choices of the Wii U become.

Who needs comfortable when you've got weird and gimmicky?

Well it always looked uncomfortable to use to me to some extent, however the newer analogue sticks do look an improvement both in design and placement (although not ideal). I think the start/select buttons didn't really need moving, using them during menu systems is all I can think of. I guess the lazyness of moving a hand to push a button or two instead of a finger is the reason for this change.

That's what everybody thought at first last year too but those that played it on the show floor at E3 were amazed at how comfortable it was.

The new sticks are a welcome change. Supposedly clickable as well.

Start and Select are usually not used in games but they are also being listed as + and - which were often used on the Wii controller. Perhaps this is to provide similar functionality? The more buttons the better, right? This would give it 6 face buttons, 2 clickable analog sticks, 2 shoulder buttons and 2 trigger buttons....and, of course, the touch screen.

Looks like the ring around the Home button will light up.

Hm... I like that the sticks are up top (I hate the PSPs and partially Vita design, though). Makes me wonder though how well most people can use the buttons and dpad for longer periods of time. Or do they "expect" that it's either the R/L buttons and the sticks or the dpad and buttons (i.e. sliding down with your hands)? That might work.

The guy from TT Games that uploaded these photos has been fired and may likely get sued as well.

These NDA's are not to be fucked with.

                  *facepalm*

I assure you, all "NDAs" aren't to be fucked with. At least in bigger industries. Even at the military I had to sign an NDA, which forbids me to talk about my place of work etc. and I could be sued for quite a lot... Not that they'd do that, but that's it.

I tell you, if anyone from Sony or MS would reveal such a leak, they might suffer the same fate. Not that this leak actually matters (I mean, what is new here that we didn't know before and which isn't really irrelevant (button positions for example)), though.

Same for MS and Sony? Are you kidding me? When was the last time they had an E3 were damn near every single detail wasn't already floating on the net for a whole month before the show? And how often do you hear of those people leaking the info getting fired and sued? Rarely.

I'm not the one that originated how strict these NDA's are. It's from the people that signed them. Heard it several times over the past few months.

I am NOT saying it's THE same... it might be, it might be not. Thing is, even if they are different, there's still some leeway if you want to sue someone for it or not. That was my whole point.
