Nintendo of Japan has concluded their latest broadcast of Nintendo Direct, where lots of info was shared on upcoming 3DS games. Not much was shown of the game, other than a couple screenshots. As you can see in one of the screenshots above, Raccoon Mario will be making a return.

The Nintendo Direct broadcast mainly focused on games releasing in Japan, but Nintendo of America has confirmed that NSMB 2 will be coming stateside as well. It will also be released in the same month of August as Japan.

glad to know it might have a bit of a SMB3 feel to it.

kind of upsetting to see Mario becoming an annual release.

Nintendo need to have variety so that they don't become stale but Mario is what makes them money to allow them to develop things like 3DS and WiiU.

I am wondering if it will have a 4 player mode. Hopefully one that doesn't require a game cartridge per player.

yeah would be good to have single cart 4-player.

players without the carts can be generic toad characters and gameplay.

while multi-cart mode should allow players to have customised Miis and such.

my hope is they allow NSMB2 to read our Mii Plaza data so that the hats we've collected in find mii/streetpass quest can be used as in game powers.
