Lost Planet 2 picks up 10 years since the events of the original adventure and the landscape has evolved dramatically. With the success of terraforming activities, the planet’s ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and other new environments. The story has advanced beyond Wayne Holden as players will now follow the exploits of their own customized snow pirates on their quest to seize control of E.D.N III.
Players will move their heroes through different stories creating a truly unique and interactive experience. With this concept, gamers will have the opportunity to engage in the story in a more dynamic way as plot threads evolve from various perspectives.
The strongest features from the first game will return in Lost Planet 2 making fans feel right at home. In addition to the anchor actions that made the gameplay in Lost Planet a true 3-D experience, Lost Planet 2 allows gamers to gain tactical advantage with a wide variety of added actions that the series has to offer. The game will also contain a new entry to the enormous Akrids which were a fan-favorite in the first Lost Planet.
Capcom has spent a considerable amount of time reviewing community feedback and incorporating it into Lost Planet 2 creating a game that both new and returning fans to the series will love. The game takes advantage of Capcom’s most highly advanced software development tool, the MT Framework 2. This is the first game to make use of the new technology – a technology that builds on the advancements made in the original MT Framework.
Beyond the deep single player mode, Lost Planet 2 is loaded with one the most extensive multiplayer campaign seen in a shooter to date. The intense and action packed campaign mode comes with the ability to form teams of up to 4 players online to clear mission objectives with friends.

I'm sorry Capcom but when your "super secret" game is a sequel to a mediocre action shooter game that wasn't THAT well received, you need to inject some life into ya! (in this field i mean, everywhere else, Capcom is pretty much pwning)
I was expecting something more.
I've played Lost Planet on the PC for a bit, then I got bored and stopped playing lol....Maybe the 2nd will be better :)

Mediocre is a good word. It was fun to play for a while but wasn't much of a keeper. I'll be interested to see what they do for the sequel. One thing I know is this game is kinda popular in Japan. Playing the demo, it was majority filled with Japanese players.
I thought the first game was OK. Hardly the best game ever, but still fun to play.

I played through almost the whole first mission and then sent it back to gamefly, but if the make this game cooperative online to play through the story then I'll be more inclined to play this...
I played the demo of the first one which was fun but didn't make me want to get the game and I am not even remotely interested in this one.

4-player co-op, new interlinked episodes, and deep customization take Lost Planet (http://xboxevolved.e-mpire.com/article/Lost_Planet_2/5297.html)® to a New Level
Xbox 360 Exclusive...for now at least :pinky:
They'll probably do what they did with the first, release it so long after the initial release onto the PS3 that nobody really cares.

Well besides the fact that Lost Planet on 360 sold over a million the year it came out and PS3 has failed to do 500k, I think there are a few other reasons.
Capcom right now does seem to have a better relationship with Microsoft than Sony, and while no money has exchanged hands, Microsoft helps them market their titles also. Something Sony does for 3rd parties also, but Sony tends to show a favorite or flavor of the year, whereas Microsoft will help promote any publishers titles like they were on just Xbox 360. They also just announced a red Xbox 360.
Besides that, watching the video on XBLM, the producers of the game explained that the game will have a lot of online co-op and online elements the first game didn't have, and these kinds of things need communication. Nearly every single Xbox 360 owner has a headset, so it just makes more sense.
Anyways I said my two cents. I could have given two shits about Lost Planet but LP2 is a bit more interesting to me..

Nearly every single Xbox 360 owner has a headset, so it just makes more sense.
ps3 owners also have headsets, and probably in as high or higher numbers considering that any usb or bluetooth headset works with the console.
as for the game, not really looking forward to it as the last one wasn't that great. but we'll see.

With headsets..no I would def think no. Simple fact is 1- I want you to find me a person that has a 8ft+ USB headset (I want pictures) and 2- Spending $40-50+ on a bluetooth over just going out and buying a $10 headset. Not only that the vast majority of Xbox 360s sold have a headset (all Pros and Elites).
Also a sidenote, any wired phone headset will plug right into the 360 controller, but just like the USB headset and bluetooth, most people are to stupid to realize that they can use stuff they might already have. If not then there wouldn't be a market for overpriced MS and Sony HDMI cables.
Well besides the fact that Lost Planet on 360 sold over a million the year it came out and PS3 has failed to do 500k, I think there are a few other reasons.
I think that if both versions were released around the same time, then the figures would be a lot closer.
The same thing happened with BioShock. By the time it came out on the PS3, I guess either most people had already played it, or didn't give a shit because it was an "old" game?

$40-$50 for a bluetooth headset? Where the hell are you looking? You can pick up decent bluetooth headsets for like $15-20. I will also mention that when playing online, it's weird how little I hear people talking. Practically nobody talks on Gears 2 online, and there's usually only one or two people talking on CoD4 online. Not that it's any better on the PS3 though, I remember when I used to play Warhawk that it was usually completely silent.

Yeah I don't get this XBL people talk more than PSN people argument.
I was on LIVE frequently during my 1 month free trial and not many people talked at all.
Now and then I ran into some annoying loud mouthed guy but other than that it was silent.
Also on PC i game A LOT online and not even on there people talk that much (granted though, there is easy typing).
So yeah online chatting isn't a big thing in the first place, I don't think people see the need to.
I personally only use voice chat when I'm just playing and chilling with friends.

Online chat is plenty big and important. It all really depends on the game. In TF2 I hear plenty of people talking, cod4, l4d, typically anything that takes some thought people will ponder together. About the bluetooth headset thing..I guess I can accept $15-20 for a decent one, but I personally have never seen a decent one and rarely a shitty one for the cheap.
Also I lol'd at the sight of your USB headset. You seriously plug that shit in to your PS3? What happens when you get high and/or drunk and when you get up to get more cookies or take a piss you trip on it and you bust your head?

CoD4 is pretty annoying when it comes to loudmouth idiots. It's very rare that I come across people who are just talking normally. There's always:
a) some 12-year old kid who's shouting at people because they keep killing him
b) somebody who swears every 4th word and is generally a dickhead
c) somebody who can't stop saying ni**er (those people usually have [KKK] as their clan tag as well) ¬_¬
and d) people who just blast music into their headset, or won't stop singing in a high-pitched voice

I've never encountered a silent CoD4 game... this is both a pleasure and a curse... but I still play it till this day with a group of buddies (at least 3 people in a party to the max of 8 in a private party) and there are always people yapping away in CoD4. Same with Halo 3.

Heh, whenever I'm in a room with people on a headset, the first thing I hear is, "KiwiSplodgeFace???"
I play at all sorts of times on Halo 3, CoD4 and Gears 2, and the majority of the time, the rooms are silent. I dunno, I guess it's just the luck of the draw?

4-player co-op featured, now you just have to wait.
Players anxious to get their hands on a Lost Planet 2 demo won't have to wait too much longer.
Producer Jun Takeuchi revealed on Famitsu's "Midnight Live 360" show the studio plans to release a demo, giving an unenthusiastic estimated date by saying "soon, I guess."
As seen on Joystiq, new features shown for the game include AI bots, custom characters and weapon sets. It's still unknown whether or not these will be in the demo, which is said to be similar to the one we played at E3.
We contacted Capcom to confirm and get specifics about any possible platform exclusivity.

I played this at E3, I will have a preview up soon on XE. I'm busy with life over here.
Lost Planet from what I played... It will make you forget any problems that original game had. I swear. You will not think "Lost Planet sucked big time, and the sequel only improved a few things, that's it" Instead you will say "Lost Planet was just a fucking preview, buy Lost Planet 2, and you won't regret the purchase!" Say it to your friends, and they will thank your mother fucking ass.
I swear. Capcom nailed it with LP2 big time. The graphics = AWESOME.
Gameplay, especially with 4 players, and its online? SIGN ME UP! On top of online, the experience of playing LP2 with your friends or acquaintances is awesome - an awesome feeling.
Because the first level you get into the game, in co-op, you have much to explore, many ways to do this and that, many ways to destroy that fucking lizard of a boss. One of my favorite level designs yet. Once you get swallowed by the lizard, you might think you're dead, but you're in for a surprise! :)
The best part of him swallowing you up, is that it SHOWS you being swallowed and falling into the body with little breakup in gameplay. Yes. its that fucking good. And the best part is, its nostalgic for any... and I mean, ANY DMC fan out there.
I told the exhibitor at the Capcom booth that the it was a genius. It is.
I am sooooo I swear, I AM SOOOOO buying this the first day its out.

Check out my preview on Xbox Evolved (http://xboxevolved.e-mpire.com/article/Lost_Planet_2/5608.html)
Lost Planet 2 takes place ten years after the first game. You are once again in E.D.N. III, but not in the same place you were in the first game. There’s a strong surge of change for this Lost Planet because E.D.N. III is now defrosting, revealing new locales like jungles. You will be playing as many different types of characters such as pirates. It will give you a new perspective of the groups in the game, and the events that will occur intertwining every one of the characters stories.
Just like the original game, there is plenty to do in multiplayer, and this time around you can do four-player co-op throughout all the missions, as well as a new versus mode....

Capcom has announced a co-op demo for Lost Planet 2, exclusive to Xbox Live, will release during gamescom next Wednesday.
http://xboxevolved.e-mpire.com/article/Lost_Planet_2/5699.html
Starting on August 19 th (the first day of GamesCom in Cologne, Germany), Xbox 360 action fans will be able to download the co-op demo for Lost Planet 2 that Capcom has been showing at events such as E3, Comic-Con and GamesCom. Live Gold members will have first crack at the demo on August 19 th, while Silver level members will be able to take part on August 26 th.
Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers around the world will be able to experience the desperate battle against the enormous G-Type Salamander Akrid boss in online, co-operative shoot outs. Utilizing a host of weapons scattered through out the arena, squads of up to four players will face off against the huge monster in an attempt to bring it down. Players can assault the Salamander in a number of ways, from shearing off its legs to actually being swallowed and fighting their way out from the inside! Superior firepower comes in many flavours, including numerous beam and projectile weapons and several Vital Suit robotic combat units that up to three players can ride at once. There are new support weapons which allow teammates to boost attack and defense abilities, while players can share life-giving thermal energy amongst injured members of their squad. Additionally, the new Dash feature allows players to sprint for short distances, bringing greater speed to combat.
The demo is a brief glimpse into the world and possibilities of Lost Planet 2, highlighting the range of weaponry available to players while showing off the high definition graphical capabilities of MT Framework 2.0, the latest version of Capcom’s proprietary 3D game engine. The first generation of MT Framework powered Capcom games like Dead Rising, the original Lost Planet and Devil May Cry 4, while an updated 1.5 version made possible the award-winning visuals of Resident Evil 5.
The next installment in the popular action series returns in Lost Planet 2, sequel to the 2.3 million selling Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. Lost Planet 2 will offer deeper insight into the world of E.D.N III and the uncertain fate of future mankind. A decade has passed since the first game, and the face of E.D.N. III has changed dramatically. Terraforming efforts have been successful and the ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and harsh unforgiving deserts. Players will enter this new environment and follow the exploits of their own customized snow pirate on their quest to seize control of the changing planet.
Players will control their heroes across 6 interconnected episodes, creating a truly unique interactive experience that changes depending upon the actions of the players involved. With this concept, players will have the opportunity to engage in the story in a much more dynamic way as plot threads evolve from different players’ perspectives.
Beyond the deep single player mode, Lost Planet 2 is loaded with extensive multiplayer modes. The intense and action packed campaign mode comes with the ability to form teams of up to 4 players online to clear mission objectives with friends. The grappling hooks that made the gameplay in Lost Planet a true 3-D experience are back, allowing gamers to gain tactical advantage by quickly scaling buildings and other obstacles that have become exposed by the wide range of environmental changes to the world of E.D.N. III.
New assets for Lost Planet 2 will be released on Wednesday 19th August as part of Capcom’s GamesCom press kit.

Did the development go well?
There weren’t any big problems. More troubling than any development problems was having to keep cutting out content.
We included a lot in this release, and by the end it became a battle with the disc capacity.
Truly, we were weeping as we were forced to cut stuff.
That stuff might be available as DLC in the future – look forward to it.
http://n4g.com/News-478213.aspx
Ok, it didn't fit on the disc, so we're going to charge you for it!
Isn't that kinda a "fuck you" to the gamer? To make things fair, I imagine this same content also was cut from the PS3 version, who's purchasers also will end up paying for said DLC, just because they couldn't cram it on a disc 1/5 of the capacity as the $60 disc already in our PS3.
It's rather annoying. I'm really more pissed at capcom for not giving it away online (or bundling it on the blu-ray - would have probably made an attractive exclusive content sell to sony at the same time) than I am with this being more proof that the DVD format has watered down gaming for all of us when it comes to multiplatform development.

I've played both. Story at E32009, and Competitive through the PSN demo.
