Wii men's 'want to conquer' urge

MEN spend hours playing video games because it satisfies a basic urge to "conquer", according to a new study.

Scientists believe that winning games stimulates parts of the male brain linked to rewarding feelings and addiction.
It may explain why men are more likely to get hooked on consoles like the Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 than their wives, girlfriends and sisters.

Aggression

US researchers wired up both men and women to scanners as they played a video game where the goal was to win territory.
Study leader Professor Allan Reiss said that although the women understood the game the men "were a lot more motivated to succeed".
Prof Reiss, of Stanford University in California, added: "Most games that are really popular with males are territory and aggression-type games.
"And historically, the conquerors and tyrants of our species are males."

Um... that's not what the article says at all. it just says that men, more so than women, have a mental urge to "conquer" and that that urge can be fulfilled by videogames.

Replace video games with sports, racing, sex, etc...

Why a study was commissioned on something so blatantly obvious is beyond me.

i don't like generalizations. mainly because i don't like being bundled into the same group as the dumb nuts who are addicted to aggressive games just because those games are aggressive.

Umm, no. But I would say that study is probably right, as countless other have said pretty much the same thing.

It was a facetious remark all, the point of the thread is to discuss the findings. Not focus on my sarcastic tag line....

Ah, but it depends on what you drink...and that's why they did the study...(I guess).
