Is up.
Anyone got dirt on this?
edit: here's...something...

Well, it's not GTA4 related like people have proposed. It's a half step to 2.4...but what exactly it does is uncertain. It just went live like, maybe an hour ago?

I just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that a PS3 firmware update (v2.35) will be released shortly. This is a relatively minor update to improve stability of some PS3 titles.
"Some PS3 titles" = GTA4.
WRONG INFO!

I hope it improves the browser some, as recently it has been crashing hard.

From the Playstation Blog comment section:
I just want to clarify that this upcoming firmware update isn’t related to GTA IV. For those of you who may still have an issue playing the game on your PS3, we have identified a solution that should resolve the issue. You can contact SCEA Consumer Services for support — their contact info and hours of service, as well as more information on this issue, are available in our Knowledge Center (http://playstation.custhelp.com/).

So another mysterious update?
Shall we take these as a minor security patch of some sort?
we don't need a thread on every update. unless it introduces a new user feature, what's the use of reporting them? people will be automatically notified of the update on their PS3s and if they want to play online, they'll have to update.
I just feel this is redundant.

I dunno, I'm curious to see (in this case, more like find out) what it does.
Very mysterious (and stupid) of Sony to not tell us :susp:
If it fixes game improvements, at least tell us which games and if it's security patching, just say "minor security update".

Sometimes smaller updates present themselves without being mandatory. Besides, if the threads were any more harshly regulated on necessity there would be plenty less threads. A lot of updates have subtle touches in them that tend to present themselves as easter eggs unless cataloged. I promise, if it's any consolation, once we decipher the purpose of the update, the thread will be discarded.
So anyone see an explanation yet for what the update does?

Yeah, this update hasn't prevented me from online gaming so some people might not catch it.

From reading my site, you know that I have some friends in the industry.
What I have been told is that Konami is heavily pushing Sony to hurry up and get 2D trophies, and in game communication, ready in time for the release of MGS4.
MGS4 is all ready to be released so what could Konami have up their sleeve big enough to persuade Sony to getting going, and release those features?

So this was a quick set-up to prepare the system for 2.4 update maybe...
If we get trophies by the time MGS4 comes out, that'll be pretty superb.

you don't tell hackers what you did and didn't do with your security. that's like a safe maker telling crooks how the new and improved safety mechanism works.

Nothing is for confirmed so don't get your hopes too high but theres been a lot of rumors about 2.4 in June.
2.4 news round up - Trophies on the Way:
Update: Sony has updated the PixelJunk Eden website with an interesting game key feature, Trophy Support.
According to our PS3forum industry insider, Sony will be releasing Firmware 2.4 sometime in June around the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4. Also mentioned is that the new Firmware 2.4 will include some of the first PlayStation Trophies. *Note that these will be the 2D trophies found on the XMB and not the 3D trophies coming in Home later this year.
"The SDK 2.40 will be available to dev. late in June. The actual Firmware 2.40 might see the light of day a lot sooner (my personal guess would be launch aligned or slightly before MGS4 )." - PS3Forum Insider
Further into the thread, they state that the Firmware 2.4 will also include improved Audio/Video communication, however don't get your hopes up that this is for in-game XMB. Since developers will receive their 2.4 debug units in June, expect only first party Sony titles to have trophies first.

Im curious if 2.35 improves something for HOME Beta testers....

the fact that they are bothering to spend time to make a 2d fill in for home scares me a bit.
the only thing worse than firmware 'rumors' is pulling a MILR.

pulling a MILR would be...
"i hate the painted look to thouse 2d sprites they lack depth."
im just woried this might be a sign that home is very far off.
Man, they're actually adding features that are related to Home. That means anything but delaying Home even further.

Nope, that changes nothing about 2.35 :-p

They've always wanted to use 2D and 3D trophies at the same time. 2D for the XMB, and 3D for Home.

Hope it's true. S'all I can say.

I hope it does too. Since I don't have a working PC at home, I've been using the browser a lot, and it pretty much crashes once a day when I use it.
Are the Chat Problems fixed?

Yeah cause the people who don't want home will still want trophies so I figured the 2D ones were for those people.

Pre-production pics of Pelican's MGS4 Bluetooth headset
Gamers and retailers have not been the only ones scrambling for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Gaming accessory makers have also been eager to get a slice of the MGS4 pie.
A month ago, we posted a leaked sales sheet for a new Bluetooth headset that's set to be released as a tie-in for the game. Accessory maker Pelican has apparently been working with Konami for quite a bit on the new headset, and now we're finally able to see actual shots of the product.
Nothing's really changed from the pics included in the sales sheet, but these new pre-production images do show off more of the MGS4 Bluetooth headset. Note that these are pre-production images, so if you spot anything wrong with the finish, those would most likely be fixed on the final product.
The headset will launch June 12 for US$ 59.99. It's costly, but it sure does look sweet. Check out the images below.
Maybe you already knew about this - i dont check the mgs4 thread, its too long, but it still backs up the comment about Konami wanting better in game communication
