Great screens. + rep This is another must-have game that I hope comes out this year I really gotta finish paying off this TV and go ahead and snag a PS3 in time for my B-Day. I want to be playing this in 07.

That rail skating pic is fuck awesome.

WOW! I like how the facial animations are so detailed. In all of the Ratchet pics, everybody in the screen has a differenct expression on their face.

Damn...this an Uncharted are the games to get to show off PS3...

Like seriously, there isn't a game that looks as good as these two IMO...

The rival companies have outmatched more than half the freakin industry=-o!

Killzone will probably be the benchmark when it ships, but for 07--doesn't get much better visually than Ratchet/Uncharted me thinks...

Some noteworthy contenders of course are Bioshock, Heavenly Sword, Unreal 07, and Call of Duty 4

My god, look at the colors, let alone the crisp detail. It's about time we see something with some real color in it. I love all of the drab grayish FPS's being thrown around so often, but it's nice to see real, deep, vibrant hues.

just come out and say it; you want a Barbie Ranbow Pony 2 game don't you?

lol. but yeah, I agree, this is definitely a looker. by the way, I noticed some slight enhancements to the earlier pics. Ratchet's end hair on his ears looked like a cut and glued piece of paper before. now his ear-end hair looks natural and fitting.

nobody else noticed, I know. lol

IGN E3 2007: Ratchet and Clank Future Hands-on (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/803/803831p1.html)

July 11, 2007 - Insomniac's Brian Allgeier was at Sony's post-conference gameplay party today, showing off the very first level of Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. As a longtime fan of the series, I'm happy to report that it plays just as other Ratchet games have -- with similar physics and mechanics -- meaning that veteran Lombax users should be able to jump right in and go. If that's all the affirmation you need before signing on, then congratulations, you're good to go.

If you're the type that needs a little more convincing, however, then here's some background info. Ratchet and Clank begin the game relaxing on a rooftop before getting an emergency video call from Quark. The captain alerts the pair that a force of insect people (called Cragmites) have invaded Metropolis and are destroying everything in their path. But before Quark's message can even finish, the city begins to blow up and Ratchet and Clank are knee-deep into their next adventure.

Allgeier explained that this invasion of Metropolis is masterminded by the game's main bad guy, Emperor Percival Tachyon. The high and mighty bastard is out for revenge against all Lombaxes in the universe, and will stop at nothing until they are extinct. Of course, this is what Tools of Destruction's story is all about -- unraveling Ratchet's origins. Who our hero was before we met him, where his family is, and where the Lombax people come from is a big unsolved mystery... but now we may finally get the answers.

Anyhow, the escape from Metropolis itself already showed us things that we hadn't seen in earlier games. There is devastation everywhere as the Cragmites rip into their surroundings and alter the landscape. These constant environmental changes make for more platforming elements than I remember seeing in previous entries, with last-second jumps and twitchy reflex tests showing up rather often. Expect plenty of falling debris, gap jumping, and explosions.

Speaking of explosions, Tools of Destruction has lots of them. Over the length of the entire 15-minute demo, I can nary remember a moment that didn't have some kind of big detonation. This is especially true if you utilize the Fusion Grenades, a fantastically satisfying bomb glove that destroys everything in path. When using these bombs in conjunction with the scripted annihilation, the screen is ablaze with fire.

One of my favorite things to do during the entire demo, however, was to use the latest transformation device to turn baddies into penguins and then bust out the Groovatron to force them to dance. But even without the bird-morph, the Groovatron is a fun little distraction and adds even more personality to an already-personable game. Other notable moments included an ass-load of super jumps, some cool rail-sliding (versus trains), and fun little Sixaxis-controlled skydiving sequence.

My only real gripe at this stage of development is that my preferred method of playing wasn't in the demo (I favor the first-person controls introduced in Up Your Arsenal, but they weren't in here), but given the history of the series it's likely a momentary problem. Also, the response times for turning and jumpiong seemed a little slower than in past title, but otherwise, this Ratchet fan is happy.

Oh and one final thing. When asked about the chances of seeing a Ratchet and Clank demo on PSN sometime in the near future, Insomniac's Ryan Schneider couldn't confirm that one would be coming, but he did offer an acknowledgement -- "We know it's something that our fans want," he said. "But we have no announcements to make at the moment."

Start writing those request letters now

here is what I was talking about, it isn't a big deal, but I like seeing games getting better till they reach gold status;

look at the Ratchet's ears and end of his tail in the early pics like this one (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/819/819456/img_4453934.html). now look at how it has gotten in the latest pics like this one (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/819/819456/img_4702774.html). :)

Still targeted for 1080p/60!

hey all,

posting from my phone in santa monica,

target framerate is still 60fps and we feel good about it. demo was not running at that yet.

you can strafe in the game, you hold down r2 (might be l2...) in order to engage the strafing.

and on the trailer... its coming sometime soon...

hopefully you see all the screenshots soon.

Nobody from Insomniac ever mentioned this game ever run at 1080p, as far as I know. All we know for sure it's that it's jaggie free and that their target is 60 fps.

I could be wrong, but I think they said they are working with 720p. they might look into changing that later on, but that is the resolution they started out with. in any case, they are doing some amazing things as it is now. the effects, lighting, animations and so on are all top notch. and is it me or is this the first time we've seen the next leap in these type of colorful playful game types? all games till now have a totally different art direction that I was curious how these type of games like R&C will look on the new systems. the best example I can think of was Viva Pinata and that doesn't hold a candle to this technically speaking. and I won't mention Kameo since it was a really early launch game so it isn't fair.

now I am really excited for a J&D game. I can't wait to see Daxter in next-generation smartassness! lol
