Nintendo has over a hundred DS and Wii games in the works.

That's what company president Satoru Iwata promised at a Japanese press conference yesterday. According to NCL's top representative, Nintendo's development studios are working on 79 separate DS games and 45 Wii titles, for a whopping total of 124, although Iwata warns that all of these games may not see release.

Iwata also says that Nintendo has increased DS and Wii production in order to meet high demand. Claiming 2.5 million DS systems produced per month, Iwata notes that Game Boy Advance production only hit 2.3 million units per month at one point, and went down after that, while DS production remains at an incredibly high level.

Iwata mentioned that 3.3 million individual downloads have been made via the Wii Shop Channel, showing that Nintendo's Virtual Console service is in good shape. Regarding the Wii controller itself, Iwata said it is uniquely suited for shooting games, and that Metroid Prime 3 should prove that upon its release. He also says he hopes Electronic Arts will find new ways to use the nunchuk and Wii Remote in its sports games.

Regarding future hardware, Iwata said that Nintendo is already researching a variety of concepts to be ready in case the games market shifts.

On a side note, the amount of DS systems being produced each month is...whopping.

^I think he's saying if they don't need the increased supply in the near future...but one of these DS games better be Warlocked!
