I'm glad of around 2% of the multiplatform games that are better on PS3, GTA4 is one of them.

I really couldn't be happier it turned out to be the superior version and in places where it counts.

Less jaggies (I REALLY don't like jaggies).
Less loading (who likes loadings....)
Sharper image according to IGN (hell yeah!)

And everyone was worried when they were only showing the 360 version in previews that PS3 version was running badly. lol

The pop up for objects and textures can be really bad on the 360 version. I once walked into a room full of enemies, and was blasted to pieces trying to shoot them all only to see some cardboard boxes I could have used as cover appear right in front of me as I was dying.

I heard the PS3 version runs a bit lower than 720p {this doesn't matter to me just telling you guys} and the 360 ver. runs in 720p but has some very bad dithering going on. This would explain why some reviewers seem to think the PS3 version looks sharper, has better colors, and has better res. textures. The 360s dithering is so bad it negates the advantage of having full 720p res. Anyway I cant wait to get this GAME! :toad:

This is [one of] the biggest game of this year and the President of Rockstar himself stated they weren't happy with 360's lack of HDD installing and said Microsoft HAS to step up the storage on their media.
He said and I quote:

Our games aren't going to get smaller so Microsoft really needs to find a solution.

These problems that are on the 360 and not on the PS3 show that when a proper next-gen game is made (not shitty last gen 1st person shooters with HD textures), 360 can't step up to the plate.

EDIT: LMFAO @ that gif. It's like there's a mode for "Last Gen GTA" that you can unlock that has pop in objects and textures.

I remember this problem from GTA III during that mission where you couldn't damage the cars you were jacking (Gone in 60 seconds). I would be getting the last car to the checkpoint while driving at breakneck speed in an attempt to make it before time runs out. So I'd cut a corner around a sidewalk and drive straight into an invisible non moving object that would just fuck the car up and kill the mission.

It's good to hear the PS3 version is the best console version of one of the biggest games released during the next-gen console cycle... IMO this is a huge win for Sony considering Microsoft cut a deal with Rockstar and allegedly helped fund the development of the title... I agree the differences are fairly nominal, but it still feels good to receive the best version of such an important and hyped title. If the online is rock solid and smooth this will be another huge win considering the free PSN service.

I do have to admit if the 360 version was technically better in any way the media would be yelling it from the rooftops. I think in some ways many of the media outlets have to eat crow, because they expected the PS3 version to be gimped; I give props to the boys and girls over at Rockstar...

^ I would agree with Lali that we should not get carried away with the differences... I would not call minor popup causing the game to be completely unplayable; that's a stretch... Once again it's good to hear the PS3 version is the best running console version, but the online community is the biggest influencer deciding which platform. I have more relatives and friends playing PS3 so that definitely impacted my decision, but it's good to know the version is technically superior... ;)

True, and it is very nice indeed for rockstar to "allow" the ps3 to have some clear visual advantages it seems as multiplatform games are normally intentionally produced to be the same or as same as possible. The differences are not huge in any ways I believe but yet it gives proof for the ps3 having the edge. I wonder could rockstar have made even some clearler advantages for the ps3 version or are they still "holding back" as it is? Same old song I know, but stuff like this makes me wonder even more what especially a game like GTA4 would have been if exclusive to ps3...Damn! lol *tells himself to just forget about it and enjoy the damn game in it's awesomeness as it is*

Same guy that has done just about every resolution check that the internet is aware of (Lair sub 720p, Dark Sector sub 720p, Halo sub 720p, Dirt 720p, etc).

No known quantity for lighting has been determined as of yet, different lighting approaches are confirmed I believe as of now. Though people are split on what version "looks" better (especially after the resolution difference being posted). This would explain why some sites are suggesting the PS3 version looks muddier in instances.

Main differences I am seeing is slightly better fr on 360 and slightly less pop-in on PS3.
Im going PS3 simply for less pop-in (in addition to load times a few seconds faster for PS3).

Not 640p but 630p. It was on the beyond 3d forum from Quaz51 (person who broke the halo 3 sub hd). They have to much times on there hands. 360 runs at 720p btw. Also it isn't a lower AA as IGN stated but something with defiltering. Kind of an unforseen problem i guess. The game is a post to run the same on both systems but the hdd is the main difference. Idk if they still have optional installs for 360, but i'l still enjoy the game either way.

From what I read at B3D, Quaz worked his magic on "subpar" screenshots (i.e. jpg compressed crap). It is not definitive yet, what resolution GTA4 runs at on the PS3...

But nevertheless... "they" say, it runs better on PS3, which means, I am ok with it (although I must say, when MS did this with Halo 3, they f*cked up, as their screenshots all where real 720P shots... thus shitting on all people, that buy videogames based on videos and screenshots).

Hopefully, I get my copy soon... my store hasn't sent it out yet sadly... Dunno when they will... Here's me hoping, it will be tomorrow morning (so it will arrive on wednesday^^).

Has anyone watched the TV shows yet? Republican Space Rangers and The Men's Room are really funny.

Masonite it is dark for me and i'm playing at 720p. If you are on foot and in a back alley or something it is really dark, though it is supposed to be.

The cars will take some getting used to but it's a lot more realistic now and fun driving and wrecking.

The art style is just beautiful and the game looks amazing. Just little things make the game really awesome. In past gta games you stole someones car and they might try and come get it back but you just drove off, in this they will hang on and you can drag them a ways.

The multiplayer seems really fun and was just doing free mode with freinds and had a good time, then we tried playing some actual matches and it lagged because of the time zone all we got were french and the connection sucked.

Really think this will be the best GTA game ever.

Got the game 4 and a half hours ago, played non-stop.

This is what I've expected and MUCH MORE.
I thought they were shitting us as always when they said "the city is more alive than ever" (they say this for every GTA) but this one DOES feel alive, it's just...Man everything is so perfect.

hehe, just got drunk for the first time :) took about a minute just to walk back to my car (bugger the taxi, i decided i'd risk it) and immediately sideswiped a cop car. copper had to slow down to follow me, i was all over the shop :)

Car damage would have to be the best i've seen in a game, simply for the variety of ways the cars can be deformed and damaged. Sideswiping results in scratches and marks along the cars realistically - panels aren't immediately covered in scratches forza style. Deformation is great too - panels dent realistically, bumpers get popped in, hang off, etc. all very nice. and motion blur in big impaacts makes everything look nice and smooth.

Another thing i've noted is that cars saved in the garage are fully repaired/cleaned when a saved game is loaded - something i hoped wouldn't happen, but oh well.

Driveby style shooting is pretty cool - nico's arm moves realistically as the car goes around corners and over bumps, and wrist movements when aiming are very realistic.

so many little details....and money is harder to come by than it was in previous games - ive done about 12 or 13 missions and killed a few people for money and got about $1500...

[edit] damn, looks like i was a bit late with the car damage ;) oh, and car weighting is much better than in previous games, making collisions more realistic, and blood detail on the cars when you run people down is a nice feature...

Graphically its not the best looking game out there, but the effort thats been put into it is second to none. Really demonstrates the diffference between "pretty" and "realistic" in terms of graphics.

I got it at midnight yesterday and played for 30 minutes half falling asleep. The freaking filter they use is kind of annoying. I'm hoping thats just because the opening city is a rundown/rut and maybe later when we get to Time Square it will be more cleaner look.

its almost to dark to the point it kinda makes it difficult to see whats going on.

Filli, try some other games (disc based) and play as much as you can.
Especially games that need streaming, it almost sounds like the laser doesnt want to make its job right.

I played Uncharted for a while and it works perfectly...I'm just really frustrated. I copied the save game form my roomie's PS3 (I finished the second mission which I was unable to do on mine) and I'm going to see if it's a hitch in the early mission so now when it loads maybe it will work?

Ah so close. After I updated my save game I played for almost 10 minutes fine, then it froze again. I thought it might have fixed it, but nope.

And unfortunately I'm the only one with the PS3 version, my roomie doesn't have it yet. And my friends back home all have it for 360...which I'm seriously considering going and exchanging my PS3 version for.

The blur filter is everywhere. I dont like it at all. I wish R* would let us remove it.

rob, did you switch 1080p and ONLY 1080p in the PS3 menu on?
The game doesnt detect 1080p by itself, you have to switch all other resolutions off in the XMB.

Well I've basically decided that this game is a must-buy for me, just because I won't have cable or internet in my new apartment until... Friday between 1 and 4 PM.

So since I am off work Thursday and Friday and should be finished moving, I'll just dive into GTA Land for a couple of days. Straight.

So my copy (SE edition) came in today, I almost passed out when the guy called and said it was in. And boy is this game fun!!!!!!

Its awesome, i just drive slowely and stop at red traffic lights if i can and walk normal through the streets.
Dating is fun too and bowling rocks. lol
