I thought it was a good way to end the game, I liked him better than fucking General RAAM in Gears=the lamest fucking boss fight in a game ever.

A bit of an overstatement. Yeah he was bad, but nowhere near the worst boss fight. And if you look past that, Gears is still one of the best games this gen... It is in my top 3 for sure.

And Segitz, Dural has been in VF since the beginning. She is Kage Maru's mother who was turned into a cyborg by J6, but that is neither here nor there. Lets just get back to the Uncharted discussion.

I just saw the Uncharted commercial for the PS3 and that shit was hot!
I still wonder why they use so much CG in the commerical, because the ingame footage is spectacular...

All I have to say is...

That is the best videogame commercial I have ever seen. That's so ***king awesome.

Gametrailers review is up. They gave it an 8.9. Aaaah schucks...another PS3 game that just couldn't get that coveted 9.0 rating. Reviewers must be alergic when it comes to giving a PS3 game a 9. Seems like a lot of sites give PS3 games that ironic score of 8.9...low enough to keep it out of the 9's but high enough to maintain the sites crediblity.

Just to play devils advocate they did give both resistance and ratchet a 9. Aside from that I think some reviewers think multiplayer should be in every game which is bad because some games just wouldn't make a good multiplayer game. And what would you need online leader boards for, head shots?

Games like Bioshock and Super Mario Galaxy don't need online but PS3 games do.

To really be honest, Bioshock was almost twice the length of Uncharted so I could see why. It also had a second ending so playing it twice is like 30 hours but playing Uncharted twice would probably clock you around 20 hours.

But I agree the score should have alteast been a 9, but the actual review was good so I don't really sweat the score much. I don't know why people care about the numbers... Listen to the depth of the review and even though they do have there gripes, it is mostly positive so you can tell it was probably an editor who made the reviewer push his score down (the way he was talking about it, I thought he'd atleast give it a 9.)

Again same sh-t as I said earlier,, PS3 games are underrated by xbox fanboys in the media.
Gears was a 5-6 hour game GT didn't cut their score. Just watch Mass Effect will get 95+
No multi, 14 hour RPG, boring side quests won't matter, frame drops too, perfect world of corruption.

Umm, no... It was about as long as Uncharted really, and the multiplayer kept it replayable (I would know, I played that shit for like 6 months before getting bored). Seriously, some of you guys are just as bad as the journalists.

Really... 8:20 on my first play through with around 40 something treasures on Uncharted and I had around 8 hours on my first play through of Gears too. And just for comparison sake, I had around 15 hours on my first play though of Bioshock.

Ah, I don't care about how long the game is as long as it entertaining and memorable. Gamers didn't care if the First Metal Gear Solid was 8 hours or shorter (hell, Gamespot gave it a 8.5 for crying out loud). However, MGS became a great game to play and set the standards of making a truely storytelling game.

Let's not get into the Gears SP length and Uncharted, because to be honest Gears has a MP component providing hundreds of hours of gameplay; if you are into MP shooters... I agree many of the PS3 exclusive titles are short in length with no MP component, but you have to consider the production quality of the titles in question. I felt Uncharted tried to avoid all of the classic level design clichés and instead of giving you multiple chase scenes or other levels they provided a lot of variety and locales to progress the story more on the level of a movie than a game. The only Gripe I have with many reviews is the notion that every PS3 game has to reinvent or revolutionize the genre. I think Uncharted makes a huge impact with its visuals and production quality. Personally if the game had more difficult puzzles and platforming it would have easily stretched the gameplay to the 10 - 12 hour mark, but the developer decided to make the game accessible to the casual gamer and wanted a constant flow to the gameplay.

I have the feeling when we see sequels for Heavenly Sword and Uncharted the games will have longer gameplay. It's a huge challenge to create a new IP and with the art assets and demands of Next-gen/HD visuals something has to give...
Also, Mass Effect fell victim to the demands of next-gen development, because it’s an RPG that is less than 20 hours… *I would expect an “RPG” to be at least 30+ hours.*
I'm playing through Uncharted on the hardest setting and will easily get 18 - 20 hours of gameplay so my $60 bucks was well spent...

The only Gripe I have with many reviews is the notion that every PS3 game has to reinvent or revolutionize the genre.
Well, some of this you can blame on the reviewers who are too stupid to get that notion out of their heads, and partly on Sony themselves who posed PS3 as the miracle machine that will do everything. I would have little issue with Uncharted being graded on a tighter scale simply because we're this far into the "next-gen" era and we've seen to some small degree what can be accomplished. However, to argue that this is why Uncharted gets an 8.5 or whatever can only hold water if every game is graded on that scale from here on out.

By the same token, the fact that we are this far into the "next-gen" era means that there's really no excuse for believing that there will be some revolution in gaming. That's a lost cause. Coming in expecting miracles just because there's this thing called Cell and a little toy called Sixaxis is where the stupidity never dies.

Personally if the game had more difficult puzzles and platforming it would have easily stretched the gameplay to the 10 - 12 hour mark, but the developer decided to make the game accessible to the casual gamer and wanted a constant flow to the gameplay.
Isn't that par for the course when talking about Naughty Dog games, though? Sure seems that way to me.

Also, Mass Effect fell victim to the demands of next-gen development, because it’s an RPG that is less than 20 hours… *I would expect an “RPG” to be at least 30+ hours.*
You could also look back at Jade Empire, which was barely a 10-hour RPG even with all the side quests included. You'd put more effort on those shooter minigames than on the main line of the game itself. You could also make the argument that Mass Effect might have been longer if it was on Bluray, but really, I think it's just production values through the roof and time limitations meeting each other head on and length was the loser.

Me too! I just beat it on Saturday after I had just bought it the day before. I gotta say - this is the most fun I've had in a video game since Metal Gear Solid on the original playstation. Good stuff, really. Heck, my mom loves watchin me play. She thinks the scenery is gorgeous, as do I.

Despite all of the reviews, I really doubt that the dudes and dudettes at Naughty Dog would have their self esteem affected by them. They seemed real satisfied with the work they did... at least that's what it seemed like in the Bonus Features of the game.

So... What's everyone's score for the game right now?

Mine's 320 with 24 treasures found. My dad however, only has like 20, with 2 treasures found... but then again, he's only an hour into it (he plays more Ratchet and Clank Futures).

We can all agree that the game is awesome. Has anyone seen The Neverending Story? Because thats what I equate the game with in a strange round about way. I actually feel like I've taken the role of Nathan and the story is happening around me. The characters have so much life to them. When they speak it feels like they have personality rather than just another program code. The environment feels so alive. To me Uncharted set the bar that much higher when it comes to games in the same genre. From now on when I play a game with a similar style I'm going to want it to be as good as Uncharted and that speaks volumes and IMO means it's revolutionary.

Regarding the vehicular scenes in the game I have this to say. They are perfectly done and placed. They actually serve a purpose in the story. With most games you'll be playing then all of a sudden BAMM, out the blue you're in a car for some odd reason trying to turret your way out...very cliche. But in Uncharted there is a reason why you get in the jeep/jetski and it's not out the blue. The story builds up to it and makes it feel more thoughout and robust. I can't explain it but I'm sure you guys know what I mean.

^ 8.9 is a really good score and in years past it would have been a great score. But reviewers have flooded the market with high scores that an 8.9 seems low. As has been said before it really does seem only a certain company gets high marks.

look at the IGN review. THey complain about frequent slowdown, long loading, bad AI and mediocre combat and it gets 9.4Yea I saw it..damn shame isn't it. Maybe I'm wrong in my thinking that only 360 games get high marks and flaws ignored but you know the saying. If it looks/walks/talks like a duck then it's probably a duck and something is fishy around these parts. Anyways I can't wait till Uncharted 2. The funny thing is that ND will probably make a Jak game next yet most people will be more excited for Uncharted 2. Same thing happen with Ratchet and Resistance as more people are hyping Resistance 2 now.

I am with you, at this point its hard to ignore the bs with these reviewers. Whatever, in the end I decide what I think is a better game. Fans do, reviews do not. I am annoyed mainly because these exceptionally talented developers aren't getting the credit they deserve while others get a free pass merely because of MS's deep pockets.

-boss i have this game it's great but it's... ps3... what should i do with it ?
-well there are two ways dealing with THAT KIND of games.
first. you write what you think but leave your excitment for you
then give it at max 8.9 score. remeber it can't sound like exciting game
and 9.0 is out of question.
or
second if you really have to give it high score (9.4 at max).
you must make it sound like it's shitty game.

you know we can't just give those games really low scores... it's not that easy.
but at least we can keep it at reasonable level. keep the excitement low and confuse readers.

Voa, years ago I would've completely agreed with you and been not at all phased that this game has gotten 8.9s and whatever else it got.

But now.... no way. I see games like Assassin's Creed and other flavours of the month getting scores like Warcraft III - The Frozen Throne or Diablo or Zelda gets. That's where I'm just like.... woah... draw a line somewhere and get some standards people....

COD4 is a great game, and it's really solid, but 95% average good? I mean... what? Seriously... what? I'd shower it with praise of consistency and solidness and absolute sheer action but should I class it among classic games like an HL or an FF VII or an MGS or a CC or C&C Red Alert etc etc etc.

I've seen RTSes that have been forgotten almost instantly after release like WiC get 9.5s across the board, but it's not even remotely comparable to classics and undying games of yesteryear.

I mean wtf, seriously, we should be in a golden age of gaming according to the reviewers on the net.

I completely am disgusted by how many people think so many 95 - 99% games have come out in the past 2 years, you'd think we'd be having the most innovative and diverse and breathtaking and classic games in the world coming out right now or something!!!

If you are comparing the Gametrailers review of Uncharter and Mass Effect I would say the reviews are fairly accurate, but not spot on... If you look at the presentation score Uncharted received 9.7 and Mass Effect recieved 9.0, but for Design (Gameplay) Mass Effect received 9.8 & Uncharted received 8.0 and this is what derailed the Uncharted review score below the 9.0 mark. I personally think Design deserved 8.5, because the gameplay was rock solid even though the game was easy and under 10 hours for the average gamer...
Also, this review does not match up with the 1up comments regarding Mass Effect's game length. The 1up show stated the game was 15 hours or under even with many of the side quest, but GT stated the primary game was over 20 hours with no side quest.
*Someone is wrong...*

The reviews are very subjective and we all realize the gaming media holds the PS3 to a higher standard if it's fair or not, but it's reality...

Because Sony is confused when working amongst themselves.

On one hand I understand why Sony do what they do when it comes to movie licensed games, but an exclusive Spider-Man or Bond etc would not only give people a reason to own the console in the first place, but could actually result in movie licensed games being as good as some other 1st party offerings... *sigh*

And I've got to agree with ND making a Bond game, but cover system games seem to be getting increasingly popular this generation so I don't doubt we'll see a Casino Royale game with certain Uncharted parallels.

Got it this morning, but I JUST got home. Playing it now and it is GORGEOUS. Found my first treasure too! I had to double back to get it. Boat scene was fucking incredible, but I was mad I couldn't see those bastard pirates in the water once they jumped off their own boats.:|

it should be at least 9.3...

Whoa! Incredible commercial.
And remember that all PS3 games are rated out of 9.
So it's actually 8.9 out of 9.

Yeah, I too am a bit let down by scores in general for some time now...

I have been a gamer in the golden ages of gaming since the VCS2600 and C64 back in the mid eighties... Back then, graphics sucked but games were still great (and much cheaper!!). Nowadays, you can be greatful if you get more than 15hrs out of one playthru (back then, it was much different, also because it was cheaper).

I mean, there are games out there that are just not as good as others (C&C Generals didn't live up to any expectations compared to what the predecessors did), yet they don't get much worse ratings.

8.9 is a good score, no questions asked, but if games like NWN2 get worse scores (although it is a splendid game) or games like Gears get much better scores, something is up. And not just that... The frequence at games getting rated 9.5 or even more is becoming rather ridiculous.

Gamespot again hit the nail on its head...

8.0

EDIT:

Their forum users now say "Gamespot PS3 reviews must use a +1 score, hence Uncharted got a 9.0 and Ratchet a 8.5 etc..."

Guess the x out of 9 review score for PS3 games really is true!

Ass Creed gets a 9 for being a glitched laden snorefest for some, and Drake gets and 8 for having "too much action" and "uneven gameplay." Huh. I just finished hopping from cliff to cliff while being SHOT AT by some pirates. So, that's gunplay AND platforming at the same time. OMG SO UNBALANCED. If you look at this dick's stats, he constantly rates games low. The only game he rated a 9 was fucking puzzle game. I shit you not, go look. Give me a fucking break.

EDIT: I can't believe what I'm seeing here. The precipice where you stand that gives you a view of the castle and the ocean. This shit is incredible. And plus Drake has to make the scene even more dramatic with his Randy Orton-esque pose he's doing right now. I can only imagine what this looks like on an HDTV. At least I know when I get one, all the games I have now will HAVE to be replayed. This one especially.

The gameplay can and has been summed up as "Tomb Raider meets Gears of War," I don't understand why all these reviewer say the same shit in their review...."hardee harhar the game is like Tomb Raider/Gears of War". If I was a reviewer I'd want to articulate something different...something that hasn't been said a kagillion times by every tom, dick, and jane out there. It's like all these fools read from the same handbook. At this point I'm fed up with the shitty scores given out by these fools but if you are going to do that then at least put some effort in your review instead of copy and pasting from another piece of crap.
Even if what's happening during the in-engine cutscenes isn't significant, it always looks great. This guys an idiot. The cutscenes in Uncharted help the story along more than any other game in recent memory.
It's easy fun to scrabble your way across these occasionally contrived environments, but other games have done it more elegantly. I'd like to ask him to name one.
the pirates and mercenaries that you'll face through most of the game are remarkably sturdy, and can regularly absorb half a clip before going down.Wrong. One headshot gets them down. Or 3 shots to the body. Could take more if you hit the legs and below.
There's a little bit of motion control wedged into a few spots, but their pretty halfhearted, which makes it a bit of a relief that they don't show up that often.WTF is this guy talking about. It's in there but halfhearted? If they made it stand out more this fool would have been bitchin that they used it too much.
Uncharted uses a performance-based reward system very similar to the Xbox 360 achievements to dole out making-of featurettes, concept art, alternate costumes, and the like.Does the 360 have to be mentioned in every PS3 review? Is it some sort of reviewer law?
The imbalance between the gunplay and the platforming is jarring but forgivableThis guy bascially hates gaming. How many games give you puzzles, gunplay, platforming, beautiful graphics, awe inspiring music, and a killer story? Not many.

**Anyone else notice that PS3 reviews are always shorter than 360 reviews? Not that it matters but it's sort of wierd. Don't these reviewers tend to jizz over game that are hard and have smart A.I? So why are they complaining here. I didn't hear them complain about Halo being tough or NG being really hard.

The enemies are "too tough" because they're SMART? I thought I heard everything but this is a new one. It's not like the game is cheap either, the enemies are smart, they flank, they use cover, they use grenades to flush you out, that's supposed to be a good thing instead of having a bunch of overpowered fodder rushing one's position, the difficulty is changeable ON THE FLY. These reviews are so fucking insane.

So what? They can make another Uncharted game and make that great as well but with their own identity, it wouldn't be a Bond game, it would be a Naughty Dog game.

The problem is freedom, Naughty Dog can do whatever they want with Uncharted in terms of characters and storyline, but with the Bond license they have to make a story consistent with the movie and what they do with the characters is constrained by the previous movies and novels. What's good for the Bond license might not be good for Naughty Dog, Naughty Dog should be allowed to do their own thing, especially given they're the most talented studio within SCEWW.

i don't think about some stupid game to be relased with another movie.
but this could work anyway. if made and prepared in a good way.
you know the game don't have to be the same as movie.
it can take mood, characters and make something different.
another story maybe alternative story the freedom is there
well considering the license isn't like a shit.
but i am not talking about that kind of situation.

I feel for all of the Developers working on PS3 exclusives. These people have to be some of the most mentaly toughf people in the world. If I worked at Factor 5, Ninja Theory, Insomniac, or Naughty Dog right now, I would have had an emotional breakdown. No matter what they do it is going to be completely ripped to shreads.

At this point gaming media has me almost completly lost for words. Gamespot has gone so bias towards 360 that it makes me literally sick to my stomac. Nearly all game media sites have continued to stereotype many things about the PS3. Almost all of them continue to complain that the PS3 has no games. Sony has not been able to do one thing to change their perseption of the system.

In my 20 years on this planet I have never seen as many double standards as the gameing community has created. I have to stop their , I am just to unable to comprehend what I am seeing to continue.

Fuck Gamespot.

Seriously, fuck Gamespot.

I just played the game (I used a whole night to do so... which probably wasn't the greatest idea but I'll manage)..

I am no longer annoyed at sub 9.0 scores for this title.

I am appalled, disgusting, angry, and at a loss for many other words.

They definitely did not even fucking play the game. I have so very few times been so utterly involved and hooked to a game.

Uncharted fucking seethes quality. The game is fun to the nth damn power. You can't escape that simple fact. Like are you fucking kidding me? Has anyone played a game so fucking cinematic? So fucking right in everything it fucking does and it does a lot of things? The exploration, the just stuff? I mean...

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

In almost every level there were things that astounded me, and then there were things that totally made me go 'holy shit that is just amazing.' I mean that upstream water level? That jetskiing part feels sooooo god damn right, and that looks so right, and it's just god damn right in every sense of the word.

Exploring ruins? Just running around the areas? I mean every part of the level is so expertly crafted, my god!! My first run through took me about 11-12 hours. I found 42 (41?) treasures on my first run. Every place just felt amazing, new, fresh, exciting, explosive, dangerous, there is so much in this game it is simply un-fucking-believable.

To think that a game could even be this good is something to behold.

It is not opinion that this game is below 9.0. It is wrong (well almost, this is hyperbole in case I'm not properly conveying that, but I still strongly mean a similar thing).

P.S. I really think people got to turn down their colour saturation and contrast... I look at pictures on the net of crazy high contrast and 'gaming appropriate' settings. I personally recommend that you change your settings to something less contrasted because I feel this is one game where 'gaming settings' don't work. Played this game on my 20.1 inch monitor, 1080p, sitting about 6 feet away, with some computer usage-esque colours/concentration/contrast etc, and in my opinion it looks far, far better and far, far more convincing. Just an opinion. Looks... unbelievable. Graphics... out of this world.

If you asked me what I wanted from next gen games, this game above all.. this game above all...

I also recommend you savour this game the first play through. Do not just keep running to the next area. You can make the game even more cinematic for yourself by carefully walking around to next areas and exploring areas you've cleared or are safe. DO NOT waste your first playthrough. Savour it.

R.I.P. Eddy Raja :cry2:

I hope he makes a crazy comeback in the next game but sadly since he got bit in the throat I find it unlikely... still hoping :):):)

P.P.S.

Segitz - For the love of God. To be honest, I think it is a crime/sin against entertainment in general that to have a PS3 and not purchase this game. I truly think it's terrible, honestly, I really, really think you should buy this game ;)

True, I believe we'll see a game come from somewhere. I just totally wish it came from ND and not from EA or somewhere I see it coming from. I'm sure either way it'll have lots of cover and yada yada but ND to be able to do even a quick job with this game would do wonders if Uncharted is even a remote indication to what they are capable of with a TPS.

Seriously.. ND... E3 2005 or 06 or whenever the first BIG trailer came about. I had serious reservations of what Naughty Dog could do.

Now I know Naughty Dog can do whatever the god damn want pretty much as good or better than anyone else. Naughty Dog is fucking king.

I am so playing this game again.. and again... and again.... it's just too damn awesome.

The game is Epic. I agree with Curry x infinity

:-D

Fucking hell, you're really selling this game to me.

I'm personally glad I am, I hope you'll get to play it. Same to you Segitz, enjoy the game :)

There's one game I can call an instant classic of all the games from the new consoles. It's this one. And Mario Galaxy, but that's beside the point ;)

And sorry GTAce lol, I can't help but being this excited after playing this game! It's like my PS3 just arrived the way I wanted it! I have my R&CF, my Resistance, but this game totally laid the foundation for my PS3. I love it. Too much waiting for our buddies in Europe... It's like Diresu and me are the only one with the game online here right now lol.

dnp, did you import or are you in the States? And ya, totally cool line. That sealed the deal for me on that guy, I loved him after his introductory scene and this was just like 'he's so cool!' lol :P

He's so badass in the part after the car chase, and he shoots out the window of the jeep lol!. Oh man.. that part was hilarious hahaha.

Speak of the devil.

Naughty Dog Regrets Showing Uncharted So Early

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was one of the first PlayStation 3 titles shown during Sony's unveiling conference at E3 2005, and Naughty Dog has been on the frontlines with their Indiana Jones-inspired action adventure title every step of the way since. For some games that works, but when Uncharted became a target for criticism, the folks at Naughty Dog realized maybe they'd made a mistake pulling back the curtain so early, as studio co-presidents Evan Wells said to 1UP last week.

"Something else that I would say might change is something you guys pointed out in your 1UP Yours show -- the fact that we showed the game so early. In fact, we knew at the time that it wasn't, you know, solid -- in particular the A.I. and the gunplay," said Wells. "And we put it out there hoping we'd get the benefit of the doubt that we still had seven months of production left and then of course, we got the feedback...and it was good feedback, and in some ways it was a great focus test for where we were headed."

Looks like the folks at Naughty Dog might be a little more reserved the second time out, but seeing as how they've already hinted an Uncharted sequel is their next project, at least know where they're headed.

I forgot his name, one of the directors or something (the one who used to work at Crystal Dynamics) said that on Eurogamer's live interview thing.

@dnp and diresu and other people who played the game..

Ya man, I totally agree with you, I couldn't wait to finish that area. It was soo frigging dark and cloudy and musty and disgusting!! I was like 'I want to go back to the sunny areas! I want to go back to the U-boat and the pretty sunset! Let me outside! Lol!!

And yes... Eddy Raja ftw :P

I need to watch the cutscenes again, they are all so fun!

And one more thing dnp mentioned in one of his spoilers (no, the part I'm saying is not a spoiler...). The music for the most part.. wow... It's really well done and perfectly correlates to exactly what is going on and the places you reach, it's just frigging awesome. Excellently paced and structured game.

The game was shown the first time at E³ 2006 not 2005.

Lol ya, I couldn't remember :P

P.S. I love, LOVE how out of a cutscene or into a cutscene... SEAMLESS! Wow... the screen doesn't even black out and instantly come back... it just doesn't black out, it just goes to the gameplay. Either it just pops behind Nate, or even better sometimes it pans from the movie to the gameplay view, that is sick :)

Uzi, Deagle, 92FS, and SPAS are wicked. Well actually pretty much all the pistols were awesome.

How many weapons are in the game btw? There doesn't seem too many. Are there any more?

I can't remember, I'll try to list them all off...

----Pistols
92MM
Wesker? Lol, the Magnum, forgot the name.
Uzi
92FS
Deagle
----Shotguns
Black Pump Shotty (forgot the name)
SAS
----Rifles
AK47
M4
SVD

And the grenade of course.

Last one is a bit of a story spoiler maybe? I dunno... Just in case, it's an automatic rifle btw (maybe submachine gun actually), I guess that's not story spoiler lol :P

MP40

How do you get the unlimited ammo guns anyway? I heard there's unlimited ammo unlockable weapons for the game.

Is it codes or do you have to get stuff in the game to get them?

Hisham

The medal points are like achievements. The treasures themselves don't really do anything other than look pretty and help you unlock medal points.

I ended with 42 treasures I think. And yeah I can see them being useable to decorate your home room.

curryking1
11-20-2007, 03:38 PM
^^^^^The SVD is also called the Dragunov btw I believe. That's where the Dragon is coming from. I recognize the shape from other videogames with the same gun lol :P

Same clip too, 5 bullet and automatic shooting.

^^^^Lol, I haven't really looked at much I unlocked. Nothing I know of has much spoilerage.

I've found 42 treasures, and you can look at all of them. The designs are actually really neat, I actually have fun looking at them after I get them, even after I beat the game.

Going through the story you also unlock the cutscenes, naturally as you pass them they will be viewable again, which is a really, really awesome idea. For a game like this with amazing cutscenes (kind of like say MGS :P, glad I have Subsistence again :):):)) it's a great, great feature.

There's also all the making of videos, like making of the whole thing, making of certain scenes, etc etc. I think there are 6 or 8 videos of that.

There's also lots of concept art. I'm not sure if that's unlocked at the beginning of the game or after or while you go through because I never checked. There's a lot of concept art though.

But secrets that I think will actually be spoilers, I can't really remember. I haven't actually looked. I know I unlocked some stuff probably because I got quite a few points off of the reward system (like 5 headshots, 20 kills with X weapon, finding 5, 10, 15 treasures etc etc).

There is a lot of unlockable stuff though I think. Before I started the game I looked at the unlockables section, and for X points or whatever there's just a bunch of stuff that's unlocked. IIRC there are a lot of costumes.

And there's 'special guns' (same guns with 'special abilities' hint hint lol :P) I think, I have no idea how to get them yet. I think I'll check out gamefaqs and see if I want to do it or not lol.

There's also one special treasure that's divided from the rest, no idea what it gives you though and I have no idea where to find it yet.

I dunno, lots of stuff lol, I didn't really look at it, that's all that I can remember right now.

Edit - WTF? You ended with the exact same number of treasures as me lol. Well actually I still can't remember between 42 or 43, I have to check lol.

cliffbo
11-20-2007, 03:44 PM
where are they hidden though? (not exact locations of course) are there hidden areas like in Tomb raider or are they just behind stuff or in long grass?

Hisham
11-20-2007, 03:48 PM
But it is called the Dragon Sniper in this game, not the SVD, so that is why I said it. I don't play THAT many shooters so I'm not sure about what it is called in other games. I am not that observant haha.

Anyways, the treasures are just hidden away in the levels. Either in hidden places to being there in plain sight. Like curry said, the medal points are gotten by getting 5, 10, 15 and so on treasures, and stuff like getting 5 brutal combos in a row, getting 20 brutal combos, getting 10, 30, and 100 headshots and so on. Achievements on 360 shooters is probably the best way to accurately describe the medal points. The thing is though, the more medal points you get, the more stuff you unlock.

Anyone looking for a challenge play the game on crushing. :guns:

The AI is extremely aggressive and charge you often creating a lot of tension and variety to the battles... Also, ammunition is not in abundance and Nate takes less fire to be killed so you always have the fear of being killed it makes the gun battles more frustration and intense. I also find myself using blind fire to supress enemy charges and explosive barrels much more often. Plus you can sucker enemies to charge into rooms where you can do some melee or blast them with the Shotgun. I wish the hard difficulty used the same AI as crushing, because it's some of the best enemy AI I can remember in an action title and makes the stop and pop gameplay more difficult with all the grenades and enemies charging to flank your position.

Also, during my 2nd play through I'm starting to really appreciate the excellent voice work and facial animations in the cinemas. I will have to play Heavenly Sword again to compare, because right now I would give the nod to Uncharted for best ingame cinemas on PS3. The quality of the cinemas in Uncharted and Heavenly Sword are really raising the bar for future titles like MGS4 and the industry as a whole. Uncharted is definately the best adventure title I have played in years or perhaps ever...

I've got to agree with Hisham. They did a good job on HS as far as the cutscenes go. Upon seeing those, I myself passed the torch from MGS to HS. And now I've done it again for Uncharted. I'll put it to you like this: If the cutscenes from Uncharted were being aired as a regular CG animated television show, I'd have to make an extra platform on the first place stand to place Uncharted next to Reboot. That's just how fucking good they are. I'm with Curryking 100% on this one. Everything about the game just feels "right." And the cutscenes play a major role in that.

Uncharted censored in Japan
Posted on November 21st, 2007 at 11:25 EDT

In a similar move to Resistance: Fall of Man, the Japanese release of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune has been heavily censored in the region, removing any blood from combat.

When played on a Japanese PS3, the game been censored so that when enemies are shot they do not bleed. Furthermore it is a hardware-related issue, meaning it will not matter which region the game has been purchased from, as it will still remain censored on a Japanese machine.

When Resistance: Fall of Man was launched in Japan it was also treated in a similar manner to Uncharted, but owners were able to find a way around it by simply downloading a US save file from the internet.

This simple fix does not work for Uncharted. Apparently, the game will not even recognize the file when copied over to the Japanese system, and when attempting to overwrite the Japanese save file with the US save file, the file will just become the corrupted

The Japanese system which this was tested on was a 60GB model with parental controls off and the game was a North American version of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Yeah, but the "less bloody" types like Hellsing (I just started watching it, saw the first two episodes) air in German TV uncensored.

Thing is, in movies, Japanese get much more violence often (look at the us and jap versions of Kill Bill) but in videogames its the other way round, just like in Germany. That's rather sad honestly.

(My best example of censoring in Germany would be Rainbox Six 1... The intro had all blood and whatnot and the game didn't^^)

You mean H-Games? Or violent games?

In Germany, nearly every a bit more violent game gets cut... But after the new "youth safety law" was passed in ~March '03, games that get a rating (no matter what) cannot be indexed afterwards (only if they do break certain laws, like promoting hatecrimes and like svastikas and the like), which is great... Crysis (by the !! GERMAN !! dev Cry-Tek) didn't get censored here and got an USK18 rating.

I find this strange, because it is EA who publishes this game. But, EA doesn't censor all that often here, Ubisoft is much more guilty of this "crime", as well as Rockstar and id.

But living in Europe has the major benefit of legal importing of such material, as I am above 18^^

LiquidEagle
11-21-2007, 07:23 PM
Maybe it's because I don't live there and don't keep up with it, but it seems like Germany's rating/censorship/banning is really on a case-by-case basis rather than with flat ratings like most of the other countries... is that about right or is there more order to it than I'm hearing about? :-p

I am only speaking on certian anime experence. Like for example, I know Berserk debuted on japanese television at 12 PM. If parents know what they are doing then they shouldn't be able to watch this type of television. Same goes for everywhere else in the world, but we have shows like 24 that are live action and just as violent, which are on at 9 PM. It makes it a lot easier for a kid to watch that then an anime series which is on at midnight.

And there are no 'illegal' shops selling uncensored cracked version of games?

Great business opportunity :p

You know that this is illegal and it is an outlier when talking about most of the society. If parents are doing there job correct then japanese kids shouldn't be watching that extra violent/explicit stuff. Same goes for everywhere else too. In my experience (which is just mainly stories of japan) it should be easier to shun kids from the bad shit there because of the censoring and such. But like everything, kids can get there hands on this stuff, and it is probably the parents fault for not monitoring what there kids are doing in any case.

LiquidEagle

Very satisfying, personally. Wee bit on the tough side, but then again, so are a lot of parts in the game IMO. Still doable, and satisfying :-D

The ending was perfect because it wasn't videogame cliche. Sure it was movie cliche but not video game cliche and I liked that. Man I'm seriously having Uncharted withdrawal. I want to play part 2 already, this is going to be a long wait :(

OmniStalgic

Man...

This game is SICK!!!!!!

and it's hard which means--I will be playing it for like the next MONTH!!!

PS3 game of the year??!!!!?!?!?

me thinks:pleased:

I haven't gotten to Ratchet yet and there's COD4 and Unreal....

curryking1
11-22-2007, 08:30 PM
Oh my god....

I can't put this game down... I don't even want to bother playing other games... This is going to last me a long, LONG mother ***king time... This game is just too SICK!

Also, I am now going to lovingly call this Uncharted - Eddy Raja's Revenge. I beat the game on Crushing mode using his model hahaha. And holy crap man... the game makes you play so crazily on Crushing, it's frigging hard!!! Sometimes you'll just notice you've done the craziest god damn ***t ever and you'll be like....

The first play through of Crushing also doesn't let you use any cheat that could make the game easier, even if you've unlocked them. They thought this out well to do that and by not letting you use the 2 slow mos, or the weapon select. Game was maaaddd hard. But now I can use all the cheats and weapon selects etc etc since I've beaten Crushing :P

Holy mother of god, that looked so ***king badass, like straight out of some wicked sick action movie...

Also, Eddy Raja looks damn badass when you're blasting fools with the SAS.

So now I got 900 out of 1000 of the game points or whatever they are called, so I've unlocked a ***tload of stuff. Not planning to find the last treasures or complete the last challenge things because 900 includes everything I want from it lol.

I've got all the good guy and bad guy costumes (Navarro and Eddy ftw!), all the guns from weapon select, which includes a special secret gun from one of the characters which is Eddy Raja's Golden Gun (lol,Golden Gun), got the unlimited ammo thing too :):):)

I don't really care to find out what Doughnut Drake is, but I'm guessing it's a fatso version of Drake lol. Another one to unlock at 950 points is the One Hit Kill option, but I don't care for that either, I'm satisfied with 900/1000 :P

P.S. I watched the credits, and I was really happy to see all the studios thanked in it. It means that this game was made by the awesome, pure damn awesome. If the game doesn't tell you enough how much work was put into it.... here's some more support :P

The stuff in the credits... People and studios thanked...

SCEWW President - Phil Harrison

Sony Santa Monica Studios, Insomniac Games, Guerrilla, Ready At Dawn, Sucker Punch, Media Molecule, Zipper Interactive, Incognito, Digital Artist Management, Jason Rubin, Andy Gavin

SCEA... Jack Tretton, Peter Dille, Jim Bass, Glen Nash, Phil Rosenberg (lol! Vice City :P), Steve Ross, Riley Russell, Shuhei Yoshida

In the Naughty Dog pictures btw, they have 2 or 3 pictures of a dodgeball tournament between Naughty Dog and Santa Monica. Lol @ team building :P

Check out the ND pictures, some are pretty cool. My favourite picture is the 'Cinematics Team' picture, reflects some attitude you'd think would come from people doing that kind of film-ic stuff :P

To finish the post.... with my opinion on the game summed up in as few words as I can.

It's quite simply the most stunning videogame I've ever seen, in the sense that it's hard to believe it is in fact.. whatever the ***k it is. I am not talking my favourite characters, or the best story, or whatever because that's always reserved for stuff like FF's VII thru IX and CC and CT (Lol :P) but I'm just talking... damn, I can't believe this has been achieved. I mean this is just ***king off the wall!

To imagine of the amount of work and stress and pure talent that went into creating this game is something that is almost unthinkable. And that's damn saying something since we've heard time and time again how much work a person must to do work in the game development business. And I absolutely stress the words work and talent. Sometimes walking through the later catacombs it genuinely feels like you get dropped into an interactive movie.

I almost hesitate to call it a videogame, because it feels like it's beyond a videogame especially considering what one expects even from the best of the best from videogames, and even what people once expected from 'next gen.'

I thought I was going to get an awesome shooter that lasted 8 hours with some good replay value with another difficulty. I was so, SO wrong.

Next gen am owned by Uncharted - Eddy's Revenge. The pinnacle of next gen, no questions asked.

^^Naughty Dog can't not make an amazing game. They are Naughty Dog, they are too good...

P.S. What's everyone's favourite scene? Don't read if you haven't played it!!!

Mine is the Jailbreak, it has nothing to do with the breaking the wall open. It has everything to do with Eddy Raja and his 'performance.' When he gets mad and hits the bars with his gun that's soo awesome :):):)

My second favourite cutscene is 'Out of Road' and third favourite is the one right before you have to shoot the crazy ugly enemies with Raja as your ally.

My favourite quote is by Eddy. "Shut it!" Hahhahaah!!!

Eddy ftw!

I played through the last boss battle with the rumble and honestly it's nothing special... It's just the basic gun shot rumble and that's about it from what I can tell. I was hoping they spent a lot of time making the rumble respond during cutscenes and really impact the experience. I think ND just threw in the basics considering the rumble announcement came late in their development cycle. I also tried the rumble with Motorstorm and was disapointed, because I was expecting to feel rumbles driving over bumps on the road and when you power slide. It's just rumble when you crash and make hard impacts. Assassin Creed apparently does not support rumble and many other titles have not received patches yet to implement the feature. *Still need to try Warhawk.*
The good news is upcoming titles will support the feature and it can only get better.

Another surprising thing is the analog sticks feel better on the DS3 they move really smooth and provide very precise movement. The improvement is great for FPS titles that require more accuracy for crosshairs... The build of the controller is excellent and it's not as heavy as the PS2 controllers.
After spending a day with the DS3 I would say you can wait for the US version unless you have cash to throw around to import.

That was my big thing, I wasn't sure just how much would be added to the already released games, or recently released games. Now that I know it isn't a huge revolutionary thing for most games, I'm a little more willing to wait for the NA release.

I noticed that as well. :)

The sticks for most PS2 games provide I think about 8 degrees of motion.

The analog sticks on the PS3 controllers are very, very precise, I really can't distinguish how many degrees of motion it has, it almost seems as if it has none lol.

And ya, about the rumble, I really wasn't expecting anything worth shouting from the rooftops about lest it be MGS4 which will likely use it the best. Just wanted 'rumble' back, that's all :P

The demo seemed like a (massively improved) version of Tomb Raider. I like the little touches (clothes get wet then dry out etc), but the demo seemed dull to me.
I suppose the combat was always going to be an anti-climax after coming straight off of CoD4, but its a big improvement over TR.

Sooooo totally right.

The third level, aka, the demo....

It's easily the weakest level in the whole game. It doesn't even compare to the rest of the game. And that's saying a lot considering how fine tuned that level is, the rest is either way ten times better.

I thought the demo was great and provides a good idea of the visuals and combat engine without ruining the game's story. It's kind of hard to explain Uncharted's chapter layout, because the game plays more like a movie with each chapter being a different set.

:look:

It's true, I swear! :P

So has anyone used the 'next gen filter' video option in the rewards menu?

Naughty Dog takes a dig at a lot of other next gen titles with that filter, it over lights and over blooms everything lol. It ends up looking like a number of other games actually, crappy :P

Sepia tone and black and white look very nice btw, black and white looks beautiful actually.

I got 910/1000 points yesterday. I found another 2 other treasures by accident lol.

And one more thing, I have different favourite weapons for my 2 favourite costumes now lol.

I never use the normal Drake costume. The Naughty Dog Drake (ND FTW! he has Naughty Dog on his shirt, and the shirt graphics are really nice, the black sleeves have a nice lighting effect which makes them look really 'shirtlike' lol, the style of the shirt itself is nice too, I'd buy that shirt if I saw it in a store) weapons for me are the 92FS and the M4, Eddy's is the Golden Gun and the SAS-12.

Too bad the Golden Gun is not insta-kill, the fatso enemies and mercenaries take two bullets, it works just like the Desert Eagle :(

But it's gold! :-D

RIGHT!

I stopped counting how many times I've played through the demo. The AI on hard is really surprising sometimes and the graphics are just unbelievable. The whole style, humour and atmosphere just screams quality.

Oh, of course I only played the demo, but I find it hard to understand why someone gave the sound a score of 8. On my rig it is just like a blockbuster movie!
