Frag Time!

Playing "Gears of War," "Lost Planet," "Halo" and other action video games that involve firing guns can improve your eyesight, new research claims.

Sedate games like "Tetris" don't work.

The study involved 10 male college students who started out as non-gamers and then received 30 hours of training on first-person shooter action video games.

They showed a substantial increase in their ability to see objects accurately in a cluttered space compared to 10 non-gamers given the same test, said Daphne Bevelier of the University of Rochester.

And there have been tests that say racing games can cure ADD.

It's not improving your "eyesight" at all. It's just honing your ability to pay visual attention to things.
They've found this from other games too. It makes sense though. Video games, basically in general, force the player to pay attention to a wide variety of visuals on screen and process them in the brain. On games where a lot is going on, the player's brain has to sort through all the visual information to pick out the important parts, thus the increase in ability to find things in a cluttered space. Tetris wouldn't help because you are only really visually managing a few things: the blocks on screen, the block that fell, the next block (and in some versions, the block on hold.)
I had a friend to attempted to do a similar study, but on Smash Brothers Melee, but the funding wasn't enough to get enough subjects for the statistics to be meaningful.
