Does anybody know if VF5 uses true 1080p rendering or is it just 720p upscaled?

If it is true 1080p rendering then AM2 have done a reasonable job fitting in all the lighting, textures, animations, cloth physics etc. of the arcade version while keeping the framerate up!

I know there's not a lot happening on the screen with only two fighters but it's good to see a quality port for a change...

I can't even make any of that out....Doesn't matter either way, only rich folks or extremely lucky bastards have 1080p TV's anyway...

It has 480p 720p 1080i and 1080p on the box. However many 360 games do this now as well, so it could be upscaled. Who knows. If it is 1080p, wonder what the 360 version runs at?

What does RR7 on PS3 have on the box? I guess it would list all the resolutions it supports as well.

The 360 version will probably offer upscaled 720p, as I don't think it can render in true 1080p.

Native 1080P is definately possible IMO...
I have some doubt, because I would imagine the official release trailer would be available in native 1080P & Sony would be screaming this from the roof tops...

Yea...Gotta be upscaled man...this would've been hyped more in 1080p....but we'll see soon enough...Retail version ships very soon in all territories.

Upscaled Maybe...but Virtua Tennis 3 is 1080p native isn't it?

OmniStalgic

Yup....But I don't think it has online play-last time I checked.

What does RR7 on PS3 have on the box?

Supported HD video output: 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p

On the back of my US version.

Just because it hasn't been hyped yet doesn't rule it out as 1080p. The devs may have held off on any announcements until they were 100% certain 1080p was possible. Funny thing is, if it is true, PS3 will be running the game at a higher resolution than both the 360 and arcade version of the game.

considering that a fighting game has more room for graphical push, I wouldn't rule it out. And it's quite possible that they haven't been hyping it to holy hell. Not every game has all the resolutions on the back like that. Same way you don't see exclusive PlayStation games saying, 'only on playstation' on the box. It's possible that once we reach a certain point, they treat it as if it's defacto standard and it's not necessary to brow beat people with it.

i can confirm this because, i rented the new sonic game, and the game says on the back of the box, that it only supports 720p. when i tested in my ps3, on 1080i it played in 1080i, and when i tested in in 1080p it played in 1080p. So there. Its fixed for new games now. Cant wait to play vf5 in 1080p, (even though its just upscaled its better then nothing).I posted a link to this thread in the Sonic thread. It's hardly a confirmation, but it looks like PS3 can scale all new games now to 1080i and 1080p, as well as outputting at native 1080p in some well known cases.

I wouldn't doubt this would be in 1080p. Fighting games have traditionally been capable of squeezing out the tech goodness for along time.

Personally, if it's just an upscaling thing, I think that should be noted on the box as well with like a tiny U symbol. Like 1080Pu

Well seriously, people...the game isn't the best lookin' title in the world, huh. So upscaled or not, the visuals are pretty bleh right now. It should be a "good" game overall though, 1080p or not.

Highly doubt its 1080p absolutely none of the media has said anything about native 1080p and this game ( I believe Sega confirmed it to be 720p).

Anyways I should have it in a few days, looks to be an excelllent title.

Virtua Tennis 360 to support 1080p, Live play
Broadband and expensive telly owners rejoice

Sega of America has released details on Virtua Tennis 3's Xbox Live modes, as well as confirming that the Xbox 360 version of the game will support super-high 1080p resolutions, for those with massively-expensive televisions.

According to Sega, Virtua Tennis 3 will support both ranked an friendly matches over Xbox Live, as well as allowing you to enter exhibition games or tournaments in both the single and doubles variety.

There's also a spectator system coming for the Tennis ace, VT:TV, which will allow players to watch the pros compete in ranked matches in a similar fashion to Project Gotham 3 and eventually, Halo 3.

For more info on the game you can head off to our Virtua Tennis 3 game page, and look out for it in shops this March.http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=157029

You can get some pretty cheap, and good, 1080p TVs. Just search for "Amoi Elite", that's the one we bought.

And it seems that yes the game is native 1080p (virtua tennis 360)

How is it native without HDMI?

Oh yeah-PSM said motion control w/Tennis is crazy complex and crappy...Looks like 360 get's another best version...

*Sigh* this coming out first thing really helped that system...

The 1080p 360 games do it through vga. Some TVs come with VGA.

Obviously, hdmi is superior.

Well, 1080p 360 game.

When did they say that? :huh:PSM's March issue. They obviously don't have a final build, but not so good impressions of the sixaxis controls so far. I would hope that you could customize which part is motion and which part is button pressed:huh:

Oh and I was replying to Wounding's comment up there.

I haven't seen any TV's that don't say HDMI output on them, but I guess it's still native through VGA?

PSM's March issue. They obviously don't have a final build, but not so good impressions of the sixaxis controls so far. I would hope that you could customize which part is motion and which part is button pressed:huh:I see. We'll see what happens with it. My gripe is that you both move your player and hit the ball at the same time when using motion sensing, and that can be hard to do indeed. Wii Tennis moves the players automatically and all the gamers have to do is hitting the ball when they have to. I've expected something like being able to move your character with any of the analog sticks while you'd move the sixaxis to hit the ball, so that both inputs are fully compatible. Anyway, I need to play this game before I'd ever want to buy it or rent it.

By the way: aren't there any news on the magazine besides negative criticism towards VT3? :shifty:

OmniStalgic
02-07-2007, 12:54 AM
^Yeah that's what I would think the ideal setup would be, maybe there will be a customize option like in Tony Hawk though-it really doesn't seem that hard to do.

Word on the street is that PS3 Sonic upscales to 1080P so I would lean in the direction of upscalling for VF5. If the game is native 1080P it would be a great surprise, but I still need to purchase a 1080P display... :(

So is there a way to check if a game is upscaled? Misleading advertisement to put 1080P everywhere when it is actually upscaled and not native 1080P.

OmniStalgic

Not much that we already don't know in March PSM issue VG....

*They list Lair, HS, MotorStorm, and Warhawk as some of Sony creme of the crop for 07...
*Some Blu-ray movies that they recommend...
*An old Ted Price interview...
*A "best way" to use Six-axis feature...
*And a huge preview AND interview of Saint's Row:huh: the hell?

Trust me man..didn't miss anything.

This is the exact reason why Sony was against using the scaler...
Well Sonic only says 720P on the box, but supports all resolutions.
I'm not sure if Sony will force developers to put the native resolution on the back of the box or use the "1080P True HD" label for 1080P native titles.

Yeah, this sucks! The native resolution of a game (and movies as well) should be clearly written in the box IMO. I wonder how it will be...Will it be like 480i-1080p, upscaled up to 1080p, only the native resolution or both native resolution and the upscaling possibilities informend in the box!?

Ok I have the game.

Really a good fighter it has a slightly faster pace than some of the other VF out there but nothing anyone familiar with teh game would find abnormal. The characters move and have a much better sense of weight and are considerably more distinguished than previously versions. The gameplay as always remains very well done and arguably the best fighter available. The grfx were a mixed bag for me. The character models are very well done (with the exception of two). The backgrounds have somewhat of a 2d look to them they dont really stand out or add anything to the game (overall they arent that great). The modes are pretty well done although the inability to switch fighters is kind of a hindrance. Animation is as always with the VF series excellent although this time around some of the moves feel clumsy as if they dont fit into the combos or gameplay as well as they should.

There is definetely a need for online play otherwise this would be the ideal purchase for every PS owner.

All in all a great fighter (and for those wanting to import I ordered and got the game 3 days later for a total of 73.99 from playasia).
