First of all it's NOT an Oddworld game, second of all they haven't said anything about it being on the PS3, this is off-topic.

After a multiplatform version, I believe that's when it went to the Xbox. The reason it was said to have gone exclusive to the Xbox (a female represenative speaking) was due to the Xbox being a more powerful platform than the PS2. She felt more could be done with the game at the time. I saw this awhile back in a video interview, BTW. ;)

yes smokey. they made it popular and desirable by touting it as a PS2 title and then (even though we saw footage of the PS2s version) said it was only coming to the xbox! they sited the lack of power in the PS2 as the main reason. this is why i do not like these devs.

Did anybody actually bother to read the article?
"Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning (decapitated head in photo) and his studio Oddworld Inhabitants is poised to make us extremely happy with an all new property called Citizen Siege, which will come in game and CG film incarnations. "
The IP they're talking about is NOT Oddworld, no mention of it being a console game either, let alone a PS3 game.

Moneyhat. MS ditched Lanning though after the third one bombed.

Just in case some of you might have thought I was pulling your leg earlier, I decided to find a source :smoke::
When Oddworld Inhabitants current project, changed publishers from Microsoft to Electronic Arts, it surprised few people that a PS2 version of the game was announced shortly after. Electronic Arts has consistently tapped the PS2's enormous userbase for sales, as almost every game made by the company has been offered on the console [whereas the other two consoles have recieved the cold shoulder at least afew times over the course of this generation]. As such, the recent announcement that Oddworld Stranger would be returning to the Xbox-exclusive status that it held under Microsoft WAS a surprise.
The original plan was for EA's own internal development teams, who had had significant experience utilizing the PS2 hardware, would manage the conversion of the original code intended specifically for the superior Xbox specifications. Once it became clear that producing a port of the Xbox version would take a significan amount of time - at least another 5 months, EA felt that releasing the versions in a staggered fashion - with the inferior version coming out second - made little sense, and would cost too much to be worth the trouble.
Oddworld Stranger is slated for release on the Xbox in early 2005. XA will have a preview of this now Xbox-exclusive title in the near future.

Don't forget, the company is called Oddworld Inhabitants. It was commonly truncated as just Oddworld. So technically, if the company did not die completely and go under, then yes, any new game or movie would be a new "Oddworld" title even if it has nothing to do with their Abe/Munch/Stranger game universe.
The reasoning behind their switch to the Xbox was pretty straight forward. They're all a bunch of foofy artists (so am I, and proud of it) and they actually bought into the idea that pretty could only be pulled off on the Xbox. Then, there's the issue of Microsoft raining money down on anybody they wish to capture (no doubt if they had sold more units, Oddworld would've been drawn in like Bungie has) - The money would've been a great incentive to work solely for MS.

Wow...I love how quickly this has turned into a thread to blame MS and their "MONEY!!!"for the absence of a good game from PS2...it happens.

so this is why the PS3 gets the games after the 360... makes business sense to release the superior version on the superior platform second

It's a new IP. The movie will be in cg and the game and movie will both share some things.

GreenElf, nobody's blaming MS for anything. It's statement of a simple fact. Oddworld is composed almost entirely of people from an art background, not a technology background, at the time they were also relatively small - from a standpoint of technology the Xbox sounded MUCH nicer on paper than the PS2, and with the added assistance from Microsoft, both in terms of technical assistance, and monetary transfusions the choice was simple, "Switch to Xbox and let EA rework the code for the PS2". It's not some evil plot that Oddworld spun in order to screw SONY over - It's a small, relatively inexperienced company saying "this is the best way for us to please our fan-base".
Off topic:
And it's great how you tried to hijack a thread about Oddworld possibly creating a new IP in order to turn it into a rant about your techno-political bias, and to bitch-rant about how everyone's attacking Microsoft.

The problem with that plan was the the userbase was the Playstation userbase and there were already plenty of quality platformers on the system for them not to follow wherever Lanning wanted the series to go, too bad for them, and they never truly established a userbase with the MS crowd.

Maybe today just isn't a good day to post on this board, I should just get back to playing Okami and wait until all the crap blows over and people start talking about games again...

i don't see anything wrong with thegreenelfs posts... am i missing something here? all i can see is that he's misunderstood a couple of posts and has merely stated that he thinks its become a MS bashing thread. its just a misunderstanding, no need to get all excited :)
blame this on those that did bring this forum into disrepute a while back. give posters a chance...

There's video of the PS2 version of Munch's Oddysey on the European launch demo disk btw. I still have mine and went "Good grief!" when I saw it recently.
I like... Oddworld 1+2 on PS1, Munch on XBox, really hate Stranger with a passion.

Not to me. It felt like "Let's make a shooter, let's make it as awkward as possible". Didn't like that one, it seemed like the opposite of fun.
But IMHO. Can't like em all.

GreenElf, again, I don't see that happening. The first example you've cited there is clearly pointing out a distaste for Oddworld Inhabitants, not Microsoft, and the second post you've cited only states that after Stranger basically bombed (sadly) Microsoft stopped holding their hands, which is also true. Nowhere in there is there a jab at Microsoft, and this isn't a thread devoted to jabbing one side or the other. The mood of the thread appears to be one line of people who are extremely excited and another line who feel betrayed by Oddworld, after they migrated platforms.
Originally, I was one of the latter, but I realise now, in newer, less cloudy wisdom, they were only trying to do what was best for their users, and at the same time trying to expand their bases, unfortunately for them, the entire thing backfired - Their user-base desintegrated, feeling betrayed, and their games generated few new customers.
C'est La Vie...
The bright side, they're still alive. They've gotten their wish - to create games and movies, despite a damn near shake-apart last year. It is as though the whole thing never happened and they're right back on track... A little worse for wares, but on track.

loved the abe games, the right amount of adventure and black humour... hopefully some of that carries into their next game, and has a main character as captivating as abe...
