We can exclusively reveal that Rare is currently working on a Conker’s Bad Fur Day sequel that will be almost entirely online. Senior sources at the firm confirmed that the game, as yet unnamed, will debut at this year’s E3, alongside several other high profile Rare games.
The details of the game were not disclosed, other than it will be massively multiplayer, and feature a significant amount of team-based play along with a plethora of minigames.
Indeed, E3 this year will see Perfect Dark, Kameo and what was described to us as “a significant new Rare game,” all shown for Xbox, as both firms try to justify the massive price paid for Rare’s acquisition.

Shame about the source, though.

If its online, it gotta be ps2 or xbox since nintendo doesn't give a rat's a$$ about live gaming.
It'd be interesting if it turns out to be true. Actually, it would suck real bad for us GCN owners who could of gotten it.

Conker was the best N64 game. w00t.
btw Rare has a few online games planned. This could very well be one of them.

If you have been following them since before Metroid Prime and when they were working on Raven Blade, IGN mentioned that Retro owned the domains to www.nintendoonline and that they had aquired someone from ID who said to IGN that he wants to make network play FPS for GCN. I will try to find the article...

You N64 Owners worldwide could have gotten the original Conker's, but you didn't. That's why Rare's got a pretty lowsy loss streak the last few years... which is why Nintendo didn't buy them out.
Just a history lesson for ya.

I bet it had nothing to do with the fact that Conker was only being sold to people who owned an N64 and were 17+ years old and that it was at the very end of it's lifespan. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
You're just jealous because Microsoft owns them, and that they make kick-ass games.

Rare sat on Conker for about three years. They could have gotten off their asses and put it out hot off the heels of Goldeneye or whatever, but would Conker's Quest (the kiddy title) have done as well or better than the BFD?
Microsoft can own dog lice shampoo. I wouldn't care. They picked up the Midway games of N64 third parties... they used to make big games everyone talked about, and now they're just a black hole for budgets.

Not true...nothing good came out of the rare deal. they got like 175 million, spent 140 million on advertising, the rest they got a lawsuit, etc.

That was in like 2000 or 2001. Retro just registered the domain, they have nothing to do with it nor have any online titles planned. They are just making Metroid Prime sequels.

Yeah? Blade cuts both ways... what do you say about the Joanime Dark X-Box owners are getting? It's the equivalent of the Zelda going cel-shaded... but nobody seems to be complaining about it.

Better source: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/
C&VG.com have this report:
"What's in a name? An awful lot if you're a Rare fan with an active imagination, it would seem. As a result of what is believed to be an accidental internal leak, the name of a hitherto secret Rare title has been revealed. "Conkers Bad Fur Day Online," the title of which is said to appear on internal documentation, is now the third known Rare title currently in full production at the studio, alongside Kameo and Perfect Dark.
Conkers Bad Fur Day is a mature-rated, foul-mouthed title which originally released for N64, featuring a squirrel as the lead, who swore and abused his way through a sprawling platform adventure, which offered humorous pastiches of Hollywood movies like Saving Private Ryan and The Matrix.
Nothing is known about the game save for its title, but speculation conjures up the possibility of a massively multiplayer online experience, involving competitive elements amongst others. This now leaves two further secret Rare titles in full production, plus a series of further design concepts, including Sabre Wulf, which we exclusively revealed some time ago.
One is believed to be a racing game - Rare was working on Donkey Kong Racing for GameCube before its acquisition by Microsoft - but we'll have to wait until E3 for a clearer picture, where Rare is expected to make some major announcements. Stay tuned."
