Its the Star Wars effect. Odds are, you won't play this title until November 2007, three years after MGS3 came out.
Real time didn't surprise me as a feature for this trailer. With the high expectations that these guys get year after year, it almost seems like a given for something like this.

No, Kojima has been pretty good about this. His trailers for MGS1 to MGS3 gave details about the game, but stayed ambiguous at the same time.

That's Fantastic! I knew Kojima wouldn't disappoint.
Hey everyone, has anyone looked at the MGS4 teaser picture again?
I just know noticed, but everyone seems to be alot older. Snake seems to be even furthur up in years, and Otacon looks more adult.
Also, who is that women on the far right side? I thought the one on the left side was Meryl, but I might be wrong. She seems to be wearing the same Stealth Camoflauge overcoat that Snake wore at the beginning of MGS2.
For all of those who have forgotten the image here's a link.
http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/714/714044/img_2792482.html
simply put, you won't know anything about the story, characters plot, etc. you will only be given some game mechanics and environments shown. every new trailer will show new or adjusted mechanics till the game comes out. the only thing we will know about the actual game are very general concepts like what kind of place will we play in, what kind of weapons will be there, what kind of hand-to-hand combat is there, etc.
Kojima-san is veeeery sensitive about his plots and twists. that is a very good thing. last thing we want is to spoil what may very well be the game of the year before it evem comes out.
who is that women on the far right side?
that's my mother-in-law....oh, sorry, wrong pic. those in the pic are (from left to right)-mind spelling:
Vamp-Myrel-whore (Riden)-Shalashaska (Pevolver Ocelot)- Otikon-Big Boss-Naomi (from MGS1's codec team).
for those who suspect Big Boss to be Solidus; actually no. Solidus has an eye patch in his left eye, while Big Boss in his right one.

The two women are Meryl and Naomi, and MGS4 is set 2 years after MGS2.
This is going to be a great show. Kojima has a hard task in getting the same reaction as that of the MGS2 showing, i'll be pleased with anything they show, but alot of people won't.
I think MGS3:Subsistence is a sort of hint/experiment at what gameplay will be like in MGS4 eg. Online Mode and true third person views, as in being able to fully control the camera.
Kojima said that due to fan demand, the story will continue after the mess at the end of MGS2- thank God. no more baby Ocelot please! he is THE MGS character! and I am sure that Vamp freak will have an appearance. I wonder how you kill that thing?...if it isn't already dead!

Maybe we will even see the Chinaman, Kojima-san was so keen of in MGS2, in the new MGS Episode.
For all who didn't see the Interview: (I think it was on the MGS2-Substance disc)
Instead of Vamp they wanted to implement another character called Chinaman.
It should have been a traditional chinese man with a big dragontattoo all over his back.
Remember the scene where you fight vamp by the "poolsite" where he jumps into the water?
There should actually the fight against the Chinaman take place, and everytime he jumps into the water, the dragon would release from his back an would also fight you.
I found it very interessting, and I would really like to see this character in a MGS Episode.
Do you think that the main character in MGS4 is Solid Snake?
Because there are some hints in the teaser:
1. He smokes a cigar, not cigarettes. Big Boss smokes cigars!
2. In the end of the trailer you can hear Raiden taking the place of the main character

I might be in the minority here but i personally did not like MGS2 and the fact characters from that game are makeing their return kind of saddens me.
Once again what they really should of done is continue where MGS3 left off and possibly get some Greyfox action in there so we can finally see why he deserved the title of "Fox".
Actually you're not alone there, many people I know didn't really like MGS2 all that much. Me on the other hand, I thought it was great. Having not played MGS3 all that much (I will do sometime though) I'd sooner see the story continued from MGS2.

*drool*
I thought the first installment was one of those games that defines a genre.
I thought the second installment was an exponential improvement.
I believe Kojima-San will try his best to follow that trend. And I *hope* he will accomplish his goals.
With the sheer scope of next gen consoles, can you imagine the level of interaction with stuff? The Easter eggs?
I could care less what console this comes out on. Im a fan to the franchise

i have liked all the metal gear games up to this second, though i didn't quite understand mgs2, my favorite battles were, the first sniper wolf battle in part 1, and "The End" battle in part 3, it literally took me over two hours, it was awesome!!! i stayed crept in a pile of bushes the it started to rain, then i was all muddy, with squishy noises all over my every step, damn that game was good... part for will blow our eyes out of its socket, then kojima will pay to put them back in, so we buy this game!!!

Because there are some hints in the teaser:

2. In the end of the trailer you can hear Raiden taking the place of the main character
I think he smoked a cigar because he defeated Raiden, even though it could mean something, I don't it does. And i think raiden is going to be in the game, just hopefuly not the MAIN main character.
Once again what they really should of done is continue where MGS3 left off and possibly get some Greyfox action in there so we can finally see why he deserved the title of "Fox".
Grey Fox is the only one who was ever given the most honored codename in the Foxhound Special Forces Unit, Fox. in the original Metal Gear on the MSX system, you fight him head on. the final boss in the game is Big Boss. yup, you fight daddy as the final boss and kill him. that is why everyone is saying Snake killed Big Boss in Zanzibar.
Do you think that the main character in MGS4 is Solid Snake?
absolutely yes! Kojima has said again and again that due to popular demand, Snake will in fact be the main character. of course, you may be given control of side characters at some parts, but the main focus is on Snake. Kojima had a very bad spanking for the introducing that bit** called Riden. she was a huge slap in the face. even he is now making fun of her.
about MGS2; it doesn't really matter if you like it or not. the thing is when specifically talking about characters, MGS2 simply is one of the very few games that had great and memorable characters. MGS3 badguys were stupid. there names were even more stupid . they also repeated some moves like that gecko guy mimicking Vamp running on water. and Ocelot was an imbarrasment!
the only good characters are (mind spelling) Vulcan and The Boss. that is it. we don't even know anything about these badguys. and what is this kiddy anime ending that has every one exploding like firecrackers when they die?
but if you look at MGS2's roaster, you can see that everycharacter has a story, has a reason for doing what he/she is doing. the are absolutely no two characters sharing the same reason for holding America hostage and nearly nucking NY sky high. also, ever one was very distinct in style, fighting, weapons, etc.
MGS3 had a couple of twists at the end, but 2 was a soap opera from beginning to end. in fact, there were so many twists and turns that many don't even get the story.
at the end, not all MGS2 characters will return of course. there will be new ones. I sure hope they follow the same style as 2; having them with deep background stories, strong reasons and passions to excuse their actions, dramatic ending to each one, etc. MGS1 on PSOne did the same. it had great characters with involving stories and dramatic endings. I always cry watching Sniper Wolf's ending. I hate that bastard for shooting her right in the FACE! for God's sake man, that is her freaking FACE!!
-PS. my favorite two characters of all time: Cyborg Ninja & Sniper Wolf.

I beg to differ.
The Cobra unit in MGS3 were about emotions like when The Boss told Volgan that Snake still has not brought an emotion into battle. That is why the character were Pain,Fear,Fury,Sorrow.
Then we look at MGS1 and we have a cast of characters that are based on animals. These kinds of classification of the enemy give the impression of a unit so to say where as if you look at MGS2 you see enemy that you really dont care about but are just there.
Then the MGS2 story line is what really killed it though.Liquid Snakes arm on Ocelot? What? And he talkes through him?Im sorry but that alone is enough to put that game below the other two. Then there i the cyborg ninja kind of rip off that was happeneing i assume to pull in interst from MGS1 but that kind of backfired on me.Last and not least the Raiden switch.
I just think Hideo either had a good amount of pressure put on by himself to create a better game than MGS1 on a brand new system for the PS2 and it seemed nothing really has the WOW effecct that MGS1 and 3 brought.

For clarification of Liquid in Ocelot's arm.... ***POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD****
Ocelot is the son of The Sorrow and The Joy (The Boss), thus he has some abilities as a medium to the dead just like the Sorrow did. That's why Liquid is still around through his arm. With MGS2, Kojima also wanted to more or less destroy MGS1. He wanted to make it look more insignificant compared to the scope of MGS2, and he got a lot of good feedback on the plot twists in MGS1, so he included more. As for Vamp's return...in case some of you didn't know:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/LiquidEagle/Camera002.jpg
That's from the Document of MGS2 where you can move the camera around during the real-time polygon demos, and Vamp is in the background watching Snake & Raiden. I originally took this picture to show to Kojima & Shinkawa when I met them at an in-store signing last November, but I couldn't get it printed in time :cry2:
Anyways, I figured some people didn't know *why* he was coming back...there's youre reason. :D

I just have one question, what kind of graphic detail (art, polygon wise) will MGS4 achieved which i think will be the last game of the series (maybe the best as well) and thus Koijma will give it everything he got to make the ps3 work a little harder.
MGS4 ...which i think will be the last game of the series
why would it be the last game? who is stupid enough to kill such a hige, money rolling, franchise? MGS is here to stay no matter what Kojima says.
about MGS2; like any other game, it isn't perfect. I already said that Kojima had a really bad time for the Raiden stunt. I think he was high when he came up with it. I was also very dissapointef with the Ninja pathetic move. that was an extremely low blow. as the biggest fan of Cyborg Ninja, I take that personally. he was one of the biggest moments I was waiting for in the game. if only I knew...
having said that the game still had the best cast in nearly any game. just like MGS1 did. about MGS3, I already said that Volgan and The Boss were the only two characters that really count. though the rest are named after so called 'emotions' they never show any. what do you know about any one of them? what is there to remember about them? why are they doing what they are doing? etc. etc. and when one dies, he keeps repeating his name till he blows up like an old fire cracker. what is that? am I supposed to feel any 'emotion' from that? will gamers years from now talk about any of them?
also, Ocelot is one huge character. do you realize he is the only enemy from MGS1and MGS2 that wasn't killed, defeated or captured?
also the arm trick was pure genuis. that opens a whole new dimention. clearly he hasn't got full control over it. that all bring immediate quaestions as why take the whole arm and not just the hand? who put it in him? why specifically chose Liquid's arm? what kind of 'struggle' will we see with that arm against Ocelot's will? and so forth.
of course, there are stupid characters in MGS2, namely Olga and the bomb guy. I immedaitely hated Olga because the first thing she said was :"I was borrrrn in the battle feild". oh, P.L.E.A.S.E sister! ther is only one Sniper Wolf! you also don't say big words at the beginning. these are usually ending lines so we can feel sorry (again, 'emotion') at after the enemy dies. the bomb guy didn't have much for us to go on.
in MGS3, I wae really hoping to be able to play as The Boss. now that was one hella' of character!
finally, it all comes down to opinion. for me, MGS2 had the most memorable moments followed by MGS1 then MGS3. depite how any played, I am talking about pure story, plot, twists, and characters.

The one thing I think that made alot of the characters in MGS3 seem less impressive was the voice acting.
Usually, the American voice acting for the MGS games received higher praise than their Japanese counterparts, especially to Kojima who released the great (but hard to find) MGS: Integral which gave the Japanese gamers a chance to hear the American voice acting, but this time around the Japanese voice acting for the characters completely outdid the American voice actors.
The Boss actually sounded her age, Ocelot didn't sound like a complete wuss, Volgin sounded so much more menacing, and the overall voice acting was just better.
I hope Kojima and his team spend alittle more time picking better voice actors for the game characters (of course I am in no way talking about David Haytar who is stillf fantastic).
:Edit: Z I completely agree with you. MS2's story was absolutly amazing and is the best in my opinion.

Nope. MGS4 will not be the last in the series. MSG4 will start a new trilogy. Go back and watch the E3 teaser. The letters MGS were clearly made to look like 4, 5 and 6 (not in that order). MSG4 will start the first part of a new trilogy, and I for one, am happy about that.

As you know everyone has their own opinion. i hope that no.4 will be like mgs1. number 1 ruled, the atmosphere was so realistic, music was great and the environments were really brilliant, after playing mgs2 and 3 im a bit worriied about how 4 will come out.
to be honest, i'd rather play a remake of mgs1 on the ps3 than a new mgs if its gonna turn out crappy like 2 and 3 (no offence), as long as its a good remake, and not a cheap one like TT.

Okay, the guy with the photo of vamp, rock on. That's as substantial a plot point as the MGS document thing where...wom
SPOILERS
they state in the script that Colonel is in fact JFK! I seriously believe that if you fight some horrid Mecha-JFK in MGS 4 it will be the best game ever!
unspoiler'd...ded
Other than that, MGS2 wasn't bad. The characters in that were named after their strongest feature that you remembered them by. Vamp was a fucking vampire, Fortune was the most unfortunate person in the whole thing and most everyone else had real names.
I, myself, believe MGS3 is the best in the series and I concur with the previous person. The ending came very close to making me cry but I was around my bud when I saw it so I just sniffled a lot. So very sad..
Also, very interesting theory about Ocelot's arm. If it were true then it would prove that Kojima and his team are incredibly good at explaining things and providing inter-game connections that are both subtle and substantial.
This thread is the best MGS thread I've ever read.

1 was good but 3 best mgs game to me . it has so much to do . Plus i love how you could go underwater and shoot people i hope they have more of that in MGS4. CQC also kick alot of ass need more of that .
the pick of the bunch for me would have to be MG3, damn, the ending even nearly brought a tear to my eye
nearly? you monster! I cried like a baby girl who lost her...what ever baby girls play with.
The ending came very close to making me cry but I was around my bud when I saw it so I just sniffled a lot. So very sad..
that is why I never go deep in serious games unless I am perfectly alone! I advice you do the same.
kudos to the Vamp pick. I was going to come back and add post that he does make a showing at the very end. that is to prove he isn't dead. thanks for the pic! I didn't know where to start looking for it.
Vamp was a fucking vampire
we think that he was called Vamp because he drinks blood and Vamp is short for Vampire but actually no. Raiden asked Snake if Vamp was from Vamprie and he said no. he gave an explanation about the naem. there is also an explanation why he drinks blood. I won't use any spoiler alerts for MGS2 because if you haven't played it by now, you deserve to get it spoiled! Vamp was trapped when his hous crumbled on him and his family (do not know the reason for the house falling) he was trapped for days. the only think that kept him alive was his family's blood (father and mother). he drank, licked and sucked their dripping blood near him till he was found and saved. that is why he developed a taste for blood.
another character that had to be the badass of them all. possibly the strongest character in all of MGS; Solidus! that freak took out three Metal Gear Rays in under 10 seconds. he even called them 'worthless toys!'! this is when you ans a player, had a hard time with a bazooka taking one of them out! noe THAT was a crazy design. not to mention his death was the most touching end of all time. this actually competes not only in the gaming world, but even in movies and novels. he seriously made a dramatic end. I support his idials, and agree with his reasons. if I only had a choice I wouldn't fight him. I actually didn't even move when I had to fight him at the end and just stood there to be killed. I was 'forced' to fight him for the story to go on. damn Patriots and all the sissies that follow them!! (except for Shalahsaska of course, he is too good to waste).
we also need to be a bit realistic here, this is still a 'game' after all, so you needn't dwell to much on it. for instance, how fortune turned out to be fortunate in the end where it really counted- which was another great moment.
maybe you one of those that have to find anything to defend the game you like
it really comes down to how you view things. you see Liquid's arm in Ocelot as plain dumb, where I see it as pure genius and adds much more depth in potential plot twists. I see Ocelot in MGS3 as a complete idiot, some my see him as cool or something.
it all comes down to opinion. games are certainly art. you can look at a painting with only one stripe on a white sheet. you may look at it as nothing but garbage, some may pay thousands to buy it and can go on and on explaining its 'artistic' meanings and simbols.
for me, MGS2 was one of the top games this whole generation, and will ever be kept as one fo the gaming gems of all time.
now, no matter what our opinions are about bast MGS games, it wouldn't really matter since a new eneration will begin. insane graphics, new mechanics, new plot, new characters, etc. will make MGS4 a whole new entry. just like the difference between MGS1, 2 and three.
it will, without a doubt, literally 'own' any and all next gen offerings. and guess what, it is- using MS's favorite words' 'exclusive' to PS3.

Vamp was actually in a church with his family in Romania when terrorists bombed it, causing the building to collapse and Vamp was impaled by a crucifix. He had to survive by drinking the blood of the people who were in there, including the bodies of his parents. That's why he says, "I've already died once, my Queen." when he has that close call and Fortune starts "hamming it up."
Z, I have to completely agree with you on Solidus's death. His fall from Federal Hall in slow-motion is still the single most beautiful and emotion-laden shot to date. Although I liked the Boss a lot more, and her death itself was very very sad, it didn't have a shot like that. What I personally loved about the Boss's death was that the player had to pull the trigger. After you realize most of what she was about, and Snake has this incredible connection to her, you have to be the one to kill her. So sad...
Personally I'd say that MGS3 is my favorite. It has the most depth in the gameplay, The Boss is probably the single coolest character I've ever seen in a video game (by FAR the best female character ever, compared to what most developers put in their game...bleeech), and has a polish to it comparable to MGS1. MGS2, as amazing as it is, was rushed, especially towards the end. Now it doesn't show nearly as much as it does in other games, but anybody who followed the making of that game knows that it was rushed -- Kojima literally got sick because of all the stress to meet the deadline.
For that guy who asked where that conversation is about Vamp, you need to call Pliskin some time after your Vamp encounter and he'll go off about it. You find out that he had a relationship with both Fortune & her father (Cmdr. Dolph), and all sorts of wild stuff.
Lastly, I was too tired to cry at the end of MGS3! I stayed up all night before it came out (it was like Christmas Eve for me), and I got the game as soon as EB opened, at 10, ran back home, and played it for 16 hours straight with one bathroom/popcorn break until 2 AM the next day. I wanted so badly to find out what happens and what was going on with the Patriots that I refused to stop playing. You'd better believe I was losing some sanity towards the end there! Any time I listen to the soundtrack though, or play through it again, I have so much sadness attached to the Boss. I don't know how else to describe it... Between Snake's personal connection to her, and the position she's forced into (you'll know more about that if you've beaten the game), and the way she handles things....she's just too cool :D
Oh yeah...MGS4.... can't wait!!!
about Vamp:
He is incredibly fast, and one of his more impressive tricks is reading an opponents muscle movements to predict where and when they will fire. Using this information, he is capable of avoiding entire clips of assault rifle fire.
now that is some crazy shi**! who comes up with these things?!
and I never say any indication he was gay. yeah, it was mentioned a couple of times he was along with Fortune's father, but there is nothing from the game that points to this. he sure showed emotions towards Fortune (hey, who wouldn't!) but he was never in the same scene with her father. also, I just do not want to accept this. Vamp is one insane bad ass crazy guy, I don't want to ruing it thinking he is...aah, I don't want to even say it!
and yeah, LiquidEagle, The Boss's end was very touchy. especially when you find out her 'true' purpose after she dies. the cold hard irony is that you (the player) learn the truth at the same time Snake is recieving a patriotic medal from the President. very deep stuff here people.
the ending of The Boss and the drama that happens at the scene (without spoiling it for those who haven't played it yet, for some reason) is one of the things why I absolutely adore Japanese and other far easters cultures and imaginaton over the rest of the world. you will never see anything even close to that in Hollywood in a hundred years! the magnificent touches, imagination and novelty seen in Japanese anime and movies are way up there. the movie Casshern had extremely deep moments like these. along with anime like Vampire Hunter D: Blood Lust and Grave of the Fireflies (which is considered one of the saddest productions ever made of all kinds).
about Solidus; that ending deserves a prize really. can you see the cold hard brutal reality? the day of his death? the place of his death? struggling to stand, raising his hand and reaching for the dream...
the sound of his last breaths will for ever be ingraved in my memory. it is enough to remeber that sound to make me feel extremely emotional.
to add, Solidus was 'the perfect snake'. Liquid hated Solid because he though he himself was the testing grounds for Solid. at the end, he thought HE was the perfect soldier and Solid was the testing garbage. in fact, both were tests. Solidus was the result of these tests. he is complete in everyway. there is also a harsh irony here about him losing an eye macking him with an eyepatch look similar to Big Boss, the original soldier. Solidus was even the President of the United Stats. he was the one Ocelot was calling at the end of MGS1 and was referring to him as 'Mr.President'.
when I think about it, Big Boss, Liquid and Snake were all stupid. now bare with me here; Solid and Big Boss were captured, tortured, hurt, beaten, etc. they showed absolutely nothing speacial or notible at all. Liquid is the same. he didn't do anything crazy like the rest of his wild group. why was he even their boss? Boss was kicking Big Boss's butt with one hand behind her back. Volgan beat the crap out of him, and he didn't even get even at the end. he just kept shooting him from as far as he can.
now the real super agent stuff that is admireable and what is suitable for the main character is what was shown in the Cube's version called Twin Snakes. that was a REAL special forces agent that beat the crap out of every body. heck, he even beat Cyborg Ninja in hand-to-hand combat!
talking purely about game play, of course 3 was the best. I am talking about story and novelty.
I really hope that despite all the technical wonders, MGS4 will have these memorable moments. I feel it would be hard imagining such deeper meanings and moments than the ones already shown.
finally, I would really like to point out Shinkawa's unbelieveable talent in mecha design. did you know he was the same person responsible for the insane ZOE mechas? he has single handedly designed all the mechas in ZOE1&2! MGRay was also very good. this guy sure has talent. truck loads of it!
there is only one thing I can say at the end of all this. I think it was said better by Sony:
"Live in your world. Play in ours."
that really should have been: "rot in your world. Live in ours!"

Liquid kinda did give into torture. His bio says that he fought for the UK in the Gulf War but was taken prisoner in Iraq where he disappeared, most likely defecting.
And I'm pretty sure Liquid and Solidus will always be inferior to Solid Snake, as long as they let themselves be controlled by their genes ;-).
And Shinkawa's absolutely incredible. There isn't a time when I don't have a wallpaper with one of his masterpieces on my desktop. I literally changed desktops about 7 times in less than five minutes because each new official MGS3 wallpaper I saw was cooler than the last! One of my absolute most prized possession is my limited edition Snake Eater poster with both Hideo Kojima & Yoji Shinkawa's signatures. They also signed my MGS3 art book as well, the one that comes with the limited edition Snake Eater strategy guide. :-)
Back on topic for MGS4, I've always expected it to be real-time...Kojima & crew abandoned CG back in about '97 when they realized it just wasn't jiving with Metal Gear Solid on PSOne. I never expected them to go back, and they've never given any indication that they would. That said, I'm incredibly excited for next week. I really don't know what to expect, but I've never been let down before, and if there's any team that can get the absolute most out of a system like PS3, I got all my money on KCEJ West/Kojima Productions.
***EDIT***
I forgot to mention this, but I think it's very much worth noting that MGS4's codirector is the same director from Zone of the Enders 2. This is extremely good news, and if you're unfamiliar with ZOE2 then I HIGHLY recommend you play it, NOW. Such an amazing, incredible, beautiful...just...GO PLAY IT!!

Yep, with Yoji, Kojima and the Z.O.E 2 director Mr Murata onboard, we're all going to be in for something amazing :smoke:
EDIT: Since it hasn't been posted in this thread i might aswell
Taken from the PSM article in the some new info on gamelineup and PS3 itself (http://forums.e-mpire.com/showthread.php?t=39199) thread.
MGS 4 Becomes a War Zone
One source has described the game to PSM as "a cross between Rambo and Black Hawk Down," with Solid Snake plunged into the middle of a high-intesntiy urban war zone where artillery is taking out cover all aroudn him and AI controlled "sidekicks" fight alongside him as if they were actual human-controlled characters. The new 3D camera will paly a big role in surviving the fight quarters and constantly changing cover.
For some reason i think this is true, it sounds very interesting. So he's not going to be alone? maybe a little Socom mixed in
who didn't play ZOE2? anyone who didn't play it must get the death penalty!
OFF with their HEADS!
another thing exciting about MGS4 is Kojma specifically mentiones it is all real time. though everyone expects this, I think he gives kind of a warning and raises some hype giving the impression it will look damn good it will be mistaken for prerendered CG.
PS. I really love to continue this hot topic with you fellas, but I need to go away for a couple of days at the least. see you soon!

Umm...sorry Z but I own Casshern myself and that movie was ridiculously boring and shallow. The only thing I didn't see coming (plot-wise) from a mile away was where they got the body parts for the pool from (which was quite funny in my oppinion).
I do agree with everything else you said in that post other than your utter franticity over confirming that Vamp isn't gay. I could care less really, he's a bad-ass vampire and that's all that matters to me when it comes to how cool he is.

Well as far as Vamp being heterosexual.
Does it really matter, the best depictions of vampires I have ever come across are in Anne Rice novels and they are quite obviously bi-sexual (in the vampire sense of the word, as to say they are equally amazed by the sexual beauty in both male and female prey).
Of course this opinion has to be taken out of the context of whether or not Vamp is a Vampire :spiral: (is it possible that I have totally missed the point here :stupid: )

lilkoy, since you've already played the first, you're in an excellent position to play the second! :D
Not even joking, it's an incredible game, and it's probably what the first one SHOULD have been (the first was awesome but it wasn't great, and when you see how much better 2 is, you see that it's what 1 probably should have been).
Hummmm, you see I personally thought that the first MGS was much better. Actually, it's quite hard to compare the both of them because they're two of the best games that i've ever played. I just felt that the atmosphere and overall emotional impact that the first one left on me was just amazing!

Oh, just for clarification, I was talking about the 2nd Zone of the Enders being what the first should have been, not MGS2 being what MGS1 should have been :D
I love them all, and you should be able to tell by now that I'm a huge Metal Gear nut, but if I had to organize them in order from best to...least best... it would be:
1. Snake Eater
2. MGS1
3. Sons of Liberty
That's not to say that I don't love the bejeebees out of MGS1 and SOL, I mean it was MGS1 that first got me really into videogames as the premier art medium, but Snake Eater has gotten to me the most as having a story even better than MGS1, while having gameplay far surpassing MGS2. MGS4 could very well blow all three of these away though, I'm not saying it won't, and who knows what they've got planned for us. They're in the perfect position to pass all three MGS games with this new one, given the powerful platform and Kojima's liberties with his own studio (though he was VP of KCEJ West...whatever though). You must be expecting this game to do your dishes and create world peace if you're disappointed next week! :D

Liquid is actually superior to Solid. Liquid got all the dominate genes. The only reason Liquid died was because of FoxDie. If not for that, Solid would have been killed after Liquid got out of the car crash at the end.
But least but not last, Big Boss is actually the best one out there. Everyone else came from him. Remember that Solid can't even beat Ocelot, the Cyborg ninja had to come in and interfere by cutting Ocelot's hand off. Big Boss on the other hand, took Ocelot down like nothing in MSG3.
LiquidEagle
09-12-2005, 08:27 AM
Well Naked Snake more or less trained Ocelot, since he was Ocelot's first real combat encounter. Ocelot lacked real combat experience before Snake Eater, and over the course of the game he gets better as a soldier thanks to lessons learned from Naked Snake. Solid Snake and Ocelot have never had a chance at a real encounter since their only fight was cut short by the Ninja, but there's no reason to think that Solid Snake could take down Big Boss himself, Gray Fox (in the middle of a minefield), Liquid Snake, Vulcan Raven, Sniper Wolf, and many many others, but NOT be able to defeat Ocelot.
Liquid is GENETICALLY superior to Solid Snake, but one of the underlying themes of Metal Gear Solid is (as Naomi plainly states), "You mustn't allow yourself to be chained to fate, to be ruled by your genes." Liquid Snake lived his life believing that since his genes were inferior, that he himself was inferior. Solid Snake doesn't care either way that he's the superior or inferior, as he told Naomi, "I don't know what the hell my genes look like and I don't care." Solid Snake survives and stands apart because he simply chooses to live his life by what's necessary, not what his genes call him to do. Liquid having the upper hand in the end while Snake & Meryl were trapped under the jeep was pure chance, and I don't think it has anything to do with genes that Liquid had the better position in that end. Liquid was killed by FoxDie because of how he lived his life, being a slave to his genes. His whole mission was to fix his "brothers," the Genome Army, because he said his genes were telling him to.
That's what I think, anyways :-)
^^ ah man, thats a really good interprtation of the story, best one ive heard infact. Damn feel like playing the game again =)
Does anyone here feel that the music in MGS1 was the best, (despite both sequels having a "celebrity" music composer). Im talking mainly bout the music in the cut scenes. Remember when snake got up the elevator on the 1st level and sees that Hind helicopter go up. That beat was just soo cool, sent chills down my spine. Goose bumps everywhere.....

Does anyone here feel that the music in MGS1 was the best, (despite both sequels having a "celebrity" music composer). The music in MGS and the original Metal Gear on NES sounded the best. I have heard one or two songs on MG2:SS, but I found it way too difficult when playing it on another's MSX. :(
If that rumour by PSM is true, then I hope the game doesn't turn out like Snake's Revenge. All I have to say is: Anything but that...that game is too action-oriented (versus stealth/tactical espionage). O_O

It didn't feel like any of the others. The music didn't really fit either. I don't know, when they used Kitamura to help with the motion capturing it felt a whole lot less like MGS and a whole lot more like the movie Versus (http://cgi.ebay.com/Versus-Movie-DVD-Japanese-Live-Action-Film-Kitamura-New_W0QQitemZ6431774424QQcategoryZ617QQssPageNameZ WDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).
Not that Versus is bad, it's just not even close to the same feeling as Metal Gear Solid has had.

For the music in MG2: SS, just think of the music played during MGS1's VR missions, but 8-bit. The slow music that goes (like this helps...:D) DUN-DUN-dun dun dun dun-DUN-DUN-dun dun dun dun
You'll know it when ya hear it, it's the same music. MGS1 definitely had great music, both during the cinemas and during gameplay. What I'll always love about MGS1's music is the credits theme, The Best is Yet to Come. I can't listen to that song without thinking about the strong attachment I have to that game and the characters in it. There's something about that song that just gets me every time though.
Here's hoping MGS4 continues the tradition of great music, but I'm not worried about that :D

I never really got into Metal Gear. I don't own a single MGS game on any console I have.It does look interesting though. I couldnt play the 1st when it came out because a former friend of mine used to sit there and hog the game whenever i came over, so I couldnt experience it, and plus I didnt own a PS1 at the time.
Metal Gear Solid 2 I got to play and borrow from a friend, but it didnt strike me that much. I normally don't have much of a huge interest in something till much later.
I 've been hearing praise over the game, the story , the characters, and the guy who makes it. I think now I'm willing to give it another shot. I might go pick up the first one since I never got to fully enjoy or play it.
Do you guys think I might like it?

If you have a GC, i would suggest getting MGS: Twin Snakes maybe...it kinda feels like the 1st one but then again it doesnt. But if you cant stand the graphics/lower quality sound, then GC is it for you but if you want to experience it in all its original glory then PS1 is the version for you. But then again...older games dont play as good today so maybe you should go with Twin Snakes.

I'd play the original PSOne version, myself. Then you can play through the Twin Snakes at your leisure and you'll understand more of the inside jokes with the cinemas (like when that guy hits Snake to try & knock him out). At the core though, they're the same thing, with almost the exact same dialogue, so it doesn't really matter that much. Whichever one is more accessible I guess (MGS is VERY cheap now, you could probably find it for 7$ - 12$)
You can definitely find MGS2 for no more than $7 at Gamestop or EB (used, of course), if you don't already own it.

This forum. The reconnaissance units are looking out information every single day; pre and post TGS. :D
If you're going to scout for some information; you could check out Gamespot, IGN, etc or better yet, look through a MG/S forum.
Anyhow, you guys need to listen to the Metal Gear music, not solid. The initial theme in the first could rival intro or Hind D's theme. More music like that would be great, but LoS's main theme was impressive. ^^
Skip the Music, for now. I hope MGS4 is as difficult as MG, or better yet MG2 (claimed to be a very difficult game). When playing SoL, getting to the Arsenal Gear wasn't too difficult, neither was completing Solid (Rex was pretty tough, though). I have also tried out MGS3 (rented) and reached 'The End' stage in one day (a bit more). ;) This game better hard, I want to have the feeling that there is 'nowhere to hide'. Other than that, I really hope this upcoming title does not become action-oriented and hence stick to its roots. :)

sorry Z but I own Casshern myself and that movie was ridiculously boring and shallow
there is nothing to be sorry for. you didn't like it. that is your taste.
I wish to point out that it was made on a low budget, only $5 million. that amount seems smaller when you know that the movie is futuristic and nearly all of it was shot in front of a green screen. some scenes look like they were made by amatures. but still, having a low budget and not enough or very good eyecandy doesn't mean it was bad. the Hollywood fans won't like it since it isn't as flashy as those firecracker, pyro movies are. still, the scene where he fights the robot army was insane! that action sequence beats anything DMC and Matrix can show combined! the only thing crazier I say after it was Advent Children. oh, and I didn't like Versus. it had its moments but it turened out more comedy than action. it was a let down. Azumi on the other hand was much better.
having said that, Casshern was very deep in story and concept. the acting was superb. the eyes of Casshern't main enimy spoke volums. I cried in so many scenes I lost count. Casshern is the best movie I have ever seen. and believe me, I have seen plenty.
you see, it all comes down to taste. they got good reviews that they will launch Casshern world wide. I still don't know when, but I don't think it will do very well in N America. Japanese culture, simbolism, meanings, etc. aren't understood very well there.
anywhoo, don't want this to go off topic so back to MGS4:
Kojima said Acid 2 will have a big surprise. since connectivity with MGS2:Subsistence is already confirmed, I thought about what could it be. I think it will be a trailer of MGS4!
that is the biggest thing I could think of. it may also be a playable demo of a huge PS2 surprise game.
any ideas what could it be?

From computerandvideogames.com:
"Of equal note is the news regarding MGS 4 - this time Snake is rumoured to be fighting alongside computer-controlled comrades in a war-ravaged urban environment in a game combining aspects of Rambo and Black Hawk Down. The "No place to hide" tagline which appeared at the end of the game's E3 trailer apparently refers to the heavy presence of projectile weapons, constantly obliterating huge portions of the landscape and destroying permanent cover."
Discuss.

First, about the original Metal Gear music -- yeah it's definitely good. I don't think it reaches the complexity of the MGS games by far (obviously, and I'm not going to fault it for that). Also what's equally important about music (in my opinion) is the emotional attachment to it. People love the music during Sniper Wolf's death because that was an incredible scene. People love the ending theme because when that game ended it could easily bring a tear to your eye. I love MGS3's "Debriefing" song because it's the song playing when Snake is in the Arlington Cemetery, and that's a really powerful scene to me. In the earlier MG's (I'm waiting for Subsistence to play them all the way through, since I've found it damn near unplayable on emulators & stuff), the graphics and presentation made it harder to really feel for the characters, and thus get an attachment to the music. As music meant to build tension in a stealth game, it's awesome though. I thoroughly enjoy all the music in Metal Gear games, and I think Kojima has excellent taste in the music that goes in his games. The song "Way to Fall," by Starsailor, that plays during the MGS3 credits was an awesome choice, and it's because of that song that I'm a big Starsailor fan now.
As for that rumor about MGS4...I dunno. Why would they say you're fighting alongside computer-controlled comrades rather than just comrades? If anything, I'd almost be tempted to say that IF you do indeed fight alongside people (which I doubt in the first place), it would be alongside human comrades, as in online. The big thing behind Subsistence's camera change and online mode is that they'll both be in MGS4, so they're hoping to get feedback from Subsistence to improve them in MGS4. Also the general idea behind fighting in a war-ravaged urban environment doesn't fit my imagination of what MGS4's going to be like, story-wise. Snake, Raiden, Otacon, Meryl, and Naomi are probably all going after the Patriots/Ocelot/Liquid, not fighting some huge war. Y'know what I mean? I'll believe it when I see it I guess, but I decided a long time ago not to believe rumors about Kojima games :D.

These graphics are so nice but im afraid that I dont really like his face....doesn't seem like Snake if that is him....
Nothing against the graphics, its the style of the face
but omg i cant wait for the trailer...oh the animations and destruction and dynamic shadows
Is it me or are Capcom and Konami using the same engine?

I just want to see it with full detail at HD with all the effects and smoke and everything
In the last picture on the bottom right... the MKII is visible...Snake is looking at the. The MKII is from Snatcher, one of hideo's earlier games.
And "Snake" has a knife, which is not very Snake like.... *looks around*

If the rumour is true then lets hope that MGS doesn't turn out to become a sequel to Snake's Revenge. Err..just thinking of that makes me sick. Come on, MGS is a tactical espionage simulation/game, the heavy espionage aspect won't be leaving. :)

well im sure that they will stick to the stealth maybe a portion of the game involves fighting alongside "computer controlled characters" you know how kojima is, he can say just about anything that has to do with metal gear, but in the end it's when you play it that really matters.
i say this just expect a new metal gear with new features and a new story the rest you'll get from playing the game...

im not to crazy about the character design on this specific character either..but still look Metal Gear-ish. Something about a long face, that doesnt signify "strength" to me :P.

The ign article:
The magazine actually shares just a handful of details on the game itself, leaving most of the talking to the screenshots, which show one of the most realistic real time displays ever set to the game screen. In the screenshots, Snake -- or whom we believe to be Snake -- is revealed to be an old timer this time. The old character wields a gun and assumes Snake-like stealth poses in some shots. He's also shown interacting with a robot known as Metal Gear Mark II. If you've played one of Kojima's lesser known series, Snatcher, you'll recognize this robot, as it has appeared in that series in the past.
Raiden will also return, series producer Hideo Kojima reveals to the magazine. The new Raiden will apparently be so cool that you'll rethink your opinion of the Raiden from MGS2. The TGS trailer will give us a first look at Raiden's next generation debut.
Screenshots also show what appears to be an Otacon-like character -- that is, a guy with glasses appears in the shots and he looks just like one would expect Otacon to. Although, he's far more detailed than previous Otacon characters have been thanks to the new power at the hands of Kojima Productions. And, like the new Snake, he looks a bit older this time around.
Aside from character differences, MGS4 promises some changes in world structure. The world of Metal Gear Solid 4 is meant to be a war zone. While this was said of previous MGS games, this time you'll totally feel it. As you move through the game world, you'll see tanks, soldiers and fighter robots everywhere, indicating that you really are in a war zone.
In comments with the magazine, Kojima shared some ideas on what went into the creation of MGS4. First, according to Kojima, the game's philosophy went from "real" to "natural." As an example of this, Kojima suggests that the exclamation marks, that in past MGS games have indicated when an enemy has discovered the player, may disappear from the game. MGS4 is apparently capable of expressing such an event naturally, based on the facial expressions and the motions of the enemy.
The change to a more "natural" Metal Gear Solid takes on another form, Kojima reveals. Enemies, and the way in which you view enemies, will have greater dimension than the typical two dimensions of past games. Kojima doesn't reveal specifics, but does cite examples of Snake arriving in a battle field where country A and country B are fighting. Even though just two countries are fighting, it's possible that within one of the countries, there are different organizations that have different views and are also at odds with one another. What if Snake were to kill an A country solider. Wouldn't B country become Snake's ally? Kojima promises that we'll better understand this idea once we've seen the TGS trailer.
In addition to multidimensional enemies, Kojima promises a new element of psychological warfare with MGS4. In past installments, enemies have simply targeted the player with attacks, something that Kojima refers to as being unnatural. Kojima asks, what if the enemy were to threaten the player -- what kind of psychological effect would that have on the player's concentration and ability to move? Sadly, he doesn't go into specifics.
The shots revealed in the magazine are images running on actual PS3 hardware, and as impressive as they are, they will get better, according to Kojima's comments. While the images in the magazine are pulled from a demonstration clip, the world of MGS4 that you'll control when playing the game on the PS3 will look as good. And we assume the same can be said about the TGS trailer as a whole.

Snake says he's not a fan of "blades" in MGS2. Also, if this is Solid Snake, he looks older because part of the way him & other Les Enfants Terribles are going "extinct" is the accelerated aging. That would explain why Snake looks this much older after only 2 years. The knife is curious though, and whatever magazine this is points this out. It has "CQC!?" in huge letters :D Awesome stuff, and I seriously can't wait to see this in motion.

This is, hands down, the best graphics on any platform, in any genre, and, I can't believe I'm even going to say this, even rivals with the FF7: Advent Children movie graphics. I have already seen the movie and I will reluctantly say that MGS4 DOES NOT look better than the AC movie, but is still very much in the same league.
If in fact this is the actual game (and I have no reason right now to doubt so because we have these words from the mouth of Mr. Hideo Kojima himself), by god this will be my favourite game ever. I am confident enough in my claims to say that we will finally be reprising the role of 'SOLID' Snake (from MGS1 and 2). Hideo Kojima I believe has oft hinted that MGS4 will take place after MGS2 and since Snake is clearly older I believe Hideo knows it will lead us to believe we will be taking an older Solid Snake for a run through.
I think we should not only be thanking Hideo Kojima for this wonderful news (although he deserves a great share of it for keeping this great franchise on the PS3), but thanking Konami, Kojima Studios, and even Sony that a we will be playing a game like this in the now-will-never-seem-to-come future.
P.S. I hope we get to play as Raiden, but reverse the MGS2 way and have Raiden with a small prologue for gameplay with him and Snake himself for the vast majority of the game.
P.P.S. CQCING WITH AN M4-esque GUN!!! HUMAN SHIELD WITH M4!!! I welcome that idea with open arms indeed! :twirl:
*****************************VERY IMPORTANT EDIT:
Look back to where 'Snake' has his teeth bared as if he is some kind of pain. It is a very close up image of him and he appears to be looking upwards because his body is seen below.
Anywho, it appears like he is injecting himself with something..... hmmmmmm.... what could this possibly mean....
Oh God, have mercy on my fragile soul! Keep my little heart together and my mind sound!!
That is it people; PS3 is THE DEVIL!!
yup. these are all "running on actual PS3 hardware". that pritty much says Killzone and MotorStorm will look that freakin' good! end of story.
also, Kojima said the main player will be Snake. that said, it might be either Solid Snake or Big Boss (since Liquid and more sadly Solidus have both croaked). I want to say it is Big Boss, but he is too old to be living in the near future. I think it is good old Solid Snake.
now, miniature Metal Gear Rays roaming the city to havoc?! squade teams?! the unbelieveable detail?! can anyone say HALLALUJA!!
mark my words; Kuturagi will be doing the electric slide on stage at TGS screaming "Who's your DADDY!!"
note: about the knife, it isn't a big deal. MGS3 had a knife and you could use it. best thing is that it was pressure sensitive. move the analogue to threatin, interigate or stab that sorry neck! it was great. I don't care what Snake said in his past games, knives are here to stay. that will make Vamp very happy indeed- being a knife freak that he is.

About Snake looking old -- I've already said it but maybe people missed it, but part of being a faulty clone (which Solid Snake is) is that he has accelerated aging. Even though this takes place only 2 years after MGS2, that could very easily be Solid Snake. God I can't wait for a trailer!!!
that is true LiquidEagle, the genes are the falt. Snakes (the people not the reptiles) do age faster. after all, all three (Solid, Liquid and Solidus) are all clones. if anyone remembers, Solidus suffered from fast aging and was apparent in MGS2. he dyed his hair grey to more resemble Bigg Boss in his later days.
on to MGS4 pics;
I think he is injecting himself in that screen. he is using any kind of medicin. it could even be for something as simple as a fleu, or as serious as DieFox.
now, ALL this is running on unfinalized hardware? final SDK units will be releases later this year. The power of Cell is overwhelming. now we only need to see RSX to ... I don't know what else there is left!

They've already hit their mid thirties, the Les Enfants Terribles project was in 1972 I believe (that's what MGS3's timeline says, right?), and this takes place in 2011 (2 years after MGS2 finished, which was 2009). They're almost 40. Also, if you read the script to MGS2 that's in The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2, the part on the tanker when Liquid Snake (controlling Ocelot) says, "A few more years and you'll be just another dead clone of the old man!" It directly says in the script that Solid Snake thinks about his accelerated aging. So it was going on then, in 2007, and it's most definitely been going on.
I'm gonna wait for a trailer before I make any other comments though, I've looked at these pictures and gotten about all I can from them

Well I wasn't sure as to anything would match Killzone tbh either, and it doesn't help with me being one of the 3 main Staff on the KillzoneGame.com fansite(unfortunately recently died thanks to a server crash erasing all data on our site, currently they're attempting to recover it all though I doubt they'll manage to). But after seeing this well to me Killzone's been equalled at least in terms of presentation, but I'll wait to see it in motion first. Yet you could argue Killzone's footage had to be speeded up to be shown in viewable form. But if MGS4 is anything to go by, Killzone to me seems to go from maybe it will maybe it won't look like that to it can be acheived.
Liquid you're right Snake would be around 40 now, and with excellerated growth DNA patterns he most definately could look like that... Not to say Snake's abilities would be any worse for wear though, he might of picked up a few new moves in his arsenal over the years.

So it was going on then, in 2007, and it's most definitely been going on.......
Excellent reasoning LiquidEagle. I am hoping that it is Solid Snake who is the main character in MGS4. I actually don't mind if he's all old and stuff, as long as he is still the same bad ass when I left him in MGS2 (pretty reluctantly I might add lol). Sneaking around in the middle of a ground conflict between 2 (from what it looks like, very large and powerful) armies... how does he makes games so good!??! It's absolutely ridiculous!
P.S. All these people on the TeamXbox forums are saying that MGS4 looks nothing better than GoW....like... are you seeing what I'm seeing!??!? GoW is already looking at a PC release and they have a nerve to say that MGS4 is nother better than upcoming PC releases...
(I actually find the Unreal 3 engine quite disappointing... I find the shadows to be amazing, and character models pretty impressive, even if they look a little clay like, but some particle effects like in the Unreal3 demos look amazing but then the explosions in the Unreal Tournament 2007, especially the rocket shots, looked very disappointing... UE3 was the only engine I was thoroughly disappointed with at E3, I definitely hope Rockstar doesn't use it for the next GTA title...)
They're absolutely insane....
Then another tries to say F.E.A.R. is on par with MGS4.... what are these people smoking all day!!! They must also have some horrible alcohol being distributed to TeamXbox forum members because some of them are certainly blind!
P.P.S. It would be good to note that there are still some really great members at TeamXbox, like Zbox, who are very reasonable and are not blinded by brand loyalty. Yes, I only own a PS2, but I realise many games on the Xbox are better graphics than even the very best on the PS2. But to say that MGS4 looks anything short of 'better than anything else' would be a gross and terribly wrong understatement... Why is it human nature to blind themselves from truth when it is any different from what they want to believe...
P.P.P.S. Read up on this guy Socrates for more background on the nature of people trying to hold on to what they want to think, rather than what is actually true... Socrates story is actually very interesting, I'd recommend anyone to read up even a short article on his life and what he made his duty in society.

Oh man, I didn't even know Gears of War was coming out on PC - that's how out of 360 scene I've been lately. Well, what the hell is the point then?
Oh well I can tell you this: these MGS4 screens look incredible.
This just in: the futuristic eye patch is actually a remote camera linked wirelessly to the sentry bot. this will certainly give a whole new dimension in scouting. I think one of the pics shows an example of this new vision system the red pic shows a camera or scope view with many details. I first thought it was from a sniper scope.
The other thing this confirms is that the covered eye isn稚 damaged at all. This was a swing by the creators to make us think of Big Boss (and even Solidus at some occasions).

When they say MGS4 will be in a warzone I don't think that the source gameplay will change. I think it will still be sneaking and crawling with more action elements. More gun fire, more explosions but you have to stay hidden through it all.

About the quote from PSM when they say that Snake will fight with partners, I think they're actually talking about the countrys that can become your allies. You can probably partner up with them.
I think they are talking about a squad team ala Killzone and all those war games. Kojima did say something about alliences with the different groups fighitng. but you know Kojima, nothing is clear till you play the game- and that is a good thing!

Well if you ask me, I'd say F.E.A.R. looks better than Gears of War. That could just be my personal opinion of the games swaying it, since I'm EAGERLY awaiting FEAR, and I don't have that much interest in Gears of War. However, neither look as good as these screens, and once this game is in motion there will be no doubt as to what looks better. MGS games are never disappointing in motion, it only adds to the beauty.
Comparing magazine scans (as good as these ones are) to a game you've seen in motion is pretty ridiculous anyways. It's a clear case of jealousy ;-)

I must say that this comes as a total surprise to me, but i do hope kojima productions and their wonderfully talented team can continue to jump between each characters individual stories, what i mean by this is...
perhaps another game that comes out can be based on another of Big Bosses missions maybe after eva (i think that was her name been a while since i played it though) just not so old, i dont think i can respect snake because of his age, im just not getting that snake vibe... but am very excited about the entire game and probably will wait in line to preorder the damn game and wait even longer to buy it... kojima is the man...
LiquidEagle

I'd wait until you see the game in motion before you judge whether or not it feels like Snake. Nobody knows Snake better than Kojima, the one who created him, plus Shinkawa, so I don't think there's any reason to feel that it isn't the same ol' Snake.
Also, Kojima once talked about doing some kind of a side game for Raiden since he was pretty popular in Japan. I'm sure that has since fallen through, but he's considered it I guess. I also don't know how much there is to fill in between Snake Eater and MG1. I'm sure Kojima could come up with plenty, like as to how Big Boss came to create Outer Heaven and acquire a Metal Gear, but I dunno...I'd rather see this Patriots/Ocelot stuff get more play with possible allusions to Big Boss and Snake Eater stuff.
Honestly, I can't wait to see this in motion, especially if Vamp is in the trailer. He'll be kicking all kinds of ass!

Can you honestly say now that THIS Metal Gear looks anything like the one on the PS2? It is what i have been trying to say all along. The PS1 to the PS2 showed the same difference.

Sorry if it's old .
Kojima Interview:
Hamamura(H):Firstly I'd like to ask. Are these images from the actual PlayStation3 machine?
Hideo Kojima(HK): Yes they are. They'll get even better for the gameshow.
H: I'm surprised by the quality. So we can actually play in the world we see here, right?
HK: These are demo screens, but that's what we plan to have. It's common sense that graphics and sound get better for the next generation. We made it our first goal to make something the gamers can see and understand. What we're working with now, is how we can put the true metal gear essence into the game such as colors and atmosphere.
H: Choices like that have probably widened now that you're working on PS3?
HK: But that's why we have to make decisions first. It's similar to the choice a high school graduate decides to major in, when they're headed to university.
H: And so that choice becomes the creator's nature.
HK: If you make simple choices, you end up with enhanced graphics and sound. But then, all games become the same. But like I've said before, this time we will create the things you cannot see.
H: Can you be a little more specific?
HK: I use the sentence "from relaism to natural" often. But for example in Metal Gear, when you're deteced by the enemy, the rule was to have a "!" mark appear above their head. But now we can express that without relying on ! marks. Such as facial expression, or gestures. Things that were expressed with symbols can now be shown by natural movement.
H: A world where the player can naturally sense what's happening before them.
HK: There is a bit more meaning to natural. The prior series were composed with a 2 dimensional setting like "Snake vs Enemy". This is actually very unnatural too. The relation of allies and foes change accordingly to the situation. As you probably understood from the images, the story now takes place on the battlefield. On the battlefield, numerous countries are fighting, and there may be different organizations within the same country. It's not a 2 dimensional situation of friend or foe. So let's say Country A and Country B are at war. Then Snake comes in and defeats a soldier from Country A. Suddenly Country A has become the enemy, and Country B may support you. Something like this.
H: Snake's actions change the situation.
HK: However, the main idea is a Stealth mission, so basically it's best to not be seen. What action you take to change and utilize the situation all depends on the player.
H: Which is truly something that can't be seen. What other features will we see?
HK: You'll also see the "psychological warfare" feature. Enemies until now have simply attacked the player. This is also very unnatural. The humans' concentration and movements change depending on their state of mind. Like, if you threaten them, their competence to fight may drop. I'd like to implement those kinds of strategies.
H: Very natural, yet a very deep strategy it seems. I think I'm starting to understand what you meant when you said "things you cannot see". Changing the subject, I must say I was surprised with Snake's face this time around...
HK: Metal Gear Solid 4 is for the people who like elders(laughs). As a game designer in his 40s, there's no way I'd go without doing this. I'll leave growth stories of young characters up to other people.
H: What about Raiden, the representative for young people?
HK: Raiden is very cool this time. You'll probably get to love him. Raiden will be showing up in the "Secret Theater" we'll be making public for the first time at the gameshow. The intro starts where the E3 trailer left off. After that, the MGS4 movie running on real hardware plays.
H: Movie from real hardware is definitely the biggest part of the show.
HK: This year, we'll have a Kojima Production stage, and have plenty of talk shows and movies of our sessions. It's like a big party for us, so we won't hold anything back. Not only children, fathers, grandpas, everybody come have a look. (laughs)
Other info:
What makes a large impact on viewers over the realistic world created by the PlayStation 3 is the man we see here. An aged face, and a body that barely matches. A sneaking suit obviously special, and a familiar looking bandana. This man is "Snake" without a doubt. Is this perhaps the aged Solid Snake? Or a different person?
A whole new CQC for Snake?
This is the close quarters combat stance we've also seen in MGS3. However, in the third installment, it was used mainly while holding a small firearm. So then this is what the CQC evolved to be?
Here you can see the old man facing a small mech also found in the illustration. Is it a partner-like existence? The mech's info is found on the next page.
Here, we will show pictures of the world taken from MGS4. First thing you'll sense, is that this is a war. The series had always taken place in a battle, but never in a war. In other words, you are not sneaking into enemy territory, but now you must sneak into a place where there are numerous organizations fighting. How does this influence the game? And exactly who are the members of this war?
The mysterious mech is "Metal Gear Mark II". These are strictly speculations, but perhaps the camera on the top sends real time footage to Snake's eye gadget. Also, a mech with the same name appeared in "Snatcher".
Unusual two legged mechs walking in the town. The figure reminds us of Metal Gear Rex which showed up in MGS1. Perhaps a massively produced mech?
White coat, glasses, scruffy hair. A little aged, but most definitely this is Otacon!?
Ever since being rescued in MGS1, he's supported Solid Snake as a partner. If he's showing up in this game, that would mean that the old man is Solid Snake?

yup that is correct:
Big Boss: right eye

another thing is , like I just said, that isn't an eyepatch at all. it is a camera screen for remote viewing from the sentry bot. it was slik from them to design it to look like a futuristic eyepatch. that was clever! not to mention it looks damn good!

If the PS3 will allow characters to have facal expressions, the exclamation or question mark will no longer be needed. I'm also thinking that there won't be a top view anymore - or at least as far away as it was before to allow such emotions to be seen.
Kojima said something about the game showing superior detail for TGS compared to what we are seeing now. I expected the game to improve around launch but not this soon. This is going to be really inteteresting. I wonder how long has it been he first got his hands on development kits.

Soooo what time is it? Lol. 2 Am, 11 PM, or 6 PM? Anyway..about the gameplay I think the more action oriented style is gonna be real nice for MGS4. I know one of the things I didn't like about the mgs gameplay is that most of the action happens during the cinematics and the gameplay is mostly just the sneaking part. Don't get me wrong I love the stealth element but would like a lil more action elements like explosions and repeling from helicopters and fun stuff like that that I think MGS4s more action oriented story will add. So I really like the idea of the new gameplay.

Well I don't just take people's word without doing some research myself CurryKing. ;)
Here's what I found on it: http://www.beyondunreal.com/main/gearsofwar/about.php
It may or may not be accurate to the minute, but it's new to me.
I'm glad you are a reasonable and strong minded person. This seems like credible information (coming from a site dedicated to Unreal related material, and it is probably old b/c site staff never seem to update things like 'info about X game' on there sites). I would say this is likely or even very likely true. Great find and thanks for the link! :)
I would also like to say great job to all those people like TEEDA who have searched the internet for more information on MGS4 (like the translation from TEEDA, and JasonPS3's timeline thing for MGS4 announcements, kudos to all of you who went out of their way to get or make these things).
About Snake looking old -- I've already said it but maybe people missed it, but part of being a faulty clone (which Solid Snake is) is that he has accelerated aging. Even though this takes place only 2 years after MGS2, that could very easily be Solid Snake. God I can't wait for a trailer!!!
Solid Snake seems like he will finally be returning to be our MAIN PLAYABLE CHARACTER. LiquidEagle also mentioned this but I can't find where right now. He mentioned the point at the end of the 'Tanker Mission' in MGS2 when Liquid's 'arm' says something on the lines of '...in a few years you'll be a dead ____ (copy? clone? I don't know I'll have to play it again but I don't have time...) of the old man.' So for all those people who are saying that the main character won't be Mr. Solid Snake, I was just wondering if anyone could get anymore information backing up the reasoning that it is in fact who ever they believe the 'old dude in the mag' to be (I don't think I'm right 100000% or whatever, just want to know if there is anything concrete that is actually leading them to believe that the old guy is not Solid Snake... other than the 'eyepatch' thing b/c the underneath the big machine on his face could be a fully functioning eye... and SPOILER Solidus I'm pretty sure died at the end of MGS2 unless they kept him alive, and I'm pretty sure Kojima wouldn't bring Solidus back to life if he died...). SPOILER END And besides Kojima has even very subtly said Solid would be the main guy in MGS4 and Solidus doesn't really even look like the 'old guy' in Famitsu, and Solidus doesn't wear a bandana!!! Only The Boss, Big Boss, and Solid have ever been seen wearing a bandana!!! And if you haven't noticed I really, really, really do not want to play as Solidus. He is not nearly as cool as Solid Snake. I mean come on, even Raiden could kick Solidus' ass, SPOILER it even happened!!!! SPOILER END
Edited the SPOILERS to make less visible, couldn't figure out how to black them out...
Another edit...
Closer inspection to the 'old guy's' eyes (by people on other forums lol not me) has revealed that they may be different colour than Solid Snake's. Solid had I believe blue eyes, Big Boss I also believe had blue eyes, but in the magazine the old man has seemingly brown eyes. Maybe this is discolouration of the iris (the 'coloured' part of the eye) due to aging (yes it happens in real life), or maybe due to special 'accelerating aging' lol but I wonder, wonder very much what this means... I really would rather reprise the role that I wanted when I first played MGS2 however...(you know, you start with Solid lol, I wish that didn't change.... playing as Raiden for a small part of the story a la Tanker Mission with Solid is not something that I would mind in MGS4 though)

Snake's eye color is kinda a weird topic. In MG1 on MSX he very clearly has blue eyes, since it's shown by this one blue pixel where his eyes are on the codec screen  In MGS2, he has much closer to green eyes from what I saw of his character model in the Document and in the cinemas. Obviously Naked Snake/Big Boss has blue eyes since Volgin says, "I don't like those blue eyes of his!"
It is interesting that his eyes look rather brown, that could just be the magazine scans... I think we'll have to wait until we get a trailer before we really say, but that is an odd thing to notice. Even so, if his eyes were brown, that's equally less reason to think it's Solidus since he most assuredly has green eyes. I remember I moved the camera in the Document to look at his character model when he dies, and when the police are still inspecting his body, his eyes are open! I don't take this as a sign that he's alive or anything, I'm just saying... :-P

Im really looking forward to some screen shots of MGS4, I have never been a big fan of the series (nothing in particular just not my cup of tea), but it does have a reputation of being a very cutting edge and highly polished title.

Can anyone explain what that is??
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v729/Stillmaitik/mgs4Walker.jpg
Obviously it's a military walker of some sort, but the legs just look a bit funny :susp:
Anyway, we're just a few hours away from gaming bliss.
The close up shot of snake looks great, but if you ignore that and look at the other pics, eveything else looks amazing. Seeing this in motion is going to kill a few brain cells, we should get a few bits of info on the story aswell i hope.
LiquidEagle
09-16-2005, 12:08 AM
Well obviously I don't have any kind of inside info as to what that mech is aside from the same pictures everybody else has been gawking at for the past day & a half (tee hee), but just looking at it, the top half is very similar to MG Rex while the bottom portion is more like MG Ray. Since Rex's plans were spread throughout the globe after MGS1, I don't think this is a coincidence. Also, I can't tell if that huge leg that's on page one of the scans belongs to one of these or if it's a different one...
The legs may look funny, but if that thing has the maneuverability those legs would allow it, you're in trouble if you get spotted by one of those!
I'm hoping for some details on the story, but if you remember MGS3's unveiling at E3 2003, we really didn't get any story info, nor did we even see another character besides Snake. It was all Snake v. guards/dogs/Johnny Sasaki (), and didn't even give many details about the survival system or camouflage when you think about it. Don't be surprised if we get a lot of random things like "Survival of the Snakest" or "Battle of idealogies!" in the trailer. Of course if you're a MGS fan, you probably already expected that. For everybody else who isn't an MGS fan (for reasons beyond me :-P), you get a nice demonstration of what the PS3 can do!

Yeah, especially given that MGS4 isn't up until 5 hours from the start. I'm pretty sure the program will be the same thing on both days, and I'm guessing the media's there today though, so I figure that if we get TGS info, it'll be from this day and not until the public day. I could be wrong though. Those of you on the east coast (or in the UK) should start sleeping now and set your alarm clocks for 5 hours from now :-P.
hmmm, too old to be snake, but too young to be bigboss, at least i think so. anyway, bigboss lost his right eye, so it cant be him. im guessings its some kind of mask (from the trailer i saw).
anyway, if thats otacon then chances are snake could be in this, but thats definately not him.

Definitely not Snake? I think the accelerated aging is a perfectly reasonable explanation for his older look.
As for discounting Solidus as being a character in the game (I don't even consider him as a possibility for being a playable character), keep in mind that Gray Fox was also dead in Zanzibar but Naomi says they revived him. It was right after he'd been killed, so if they did the same for one reason or another, they could have done the same for Solidus shortly after he died.
And for the mask comment, are you referring to the mask stuff in the E3 teaser trailer? There could be some mask action going on, but I don't think this is a mask.

ok, looking at the screen shoot of MGS4. its obvious that they are using Softimage XSI for many things, modeling and animation mainly.
And yes it appears to be Solid Snake.

this game is going to ROCK!
"With next-generation hardware, Hideo Kojima intends to undertake the task of creating the inner qualities of these elements. When objects break, the sound generated from the breakage differs according to the weight and hardness of the object, and the content of the objects becomes exposed. When a character sustains an injury, not only would he experience physical change, but his physical agony would inevitably be accompanied by an emotional, sensory, and spiritual change. For instance, when the wind blows, there is a gradual shift in the configuration of the sand. When trees are burned to the ground, new seeds in the scorched earth sprout and bloom into flowers.
The inner aspect is unseen and establishes its presence only through time and the will of the player. This will pave the way toward a revolutionary change that will lead us away from the past concept based on "reality" towards the "natural.""

We don't need to tell you that Guns of the Patriots looks utterly incredible--the screenshots certainly speak for themselves--and unlike some other PS3 games shown back at E3, we can say with confidence that enough aliasing and pixellated textures were evident in this trailer to indicate that it was running smoothly in real-time. This is pretty much one of the best-looking games we've ever seen. Whether or not this footage warrants such a grandiose statement will soon be for you to decide--it's reported that Kojima Productions will post the trailer itself on the MGS4 site at the close of TGS' first day, just a few hours from now. We await further details on this game with baited breath, and will bring them to you as soon as we have them.

Well it should look a lot better on a tv screen or monitor methinks. Remember, these things were blown up onto a theatre-sized screen. If it's already running smooth in realtime though, so much the better. Additional graphics power and familiarity with the architecture can be used to make things look 'better' going on into the development.
And it states also that Konomi themselves will put the trailer up on their site at the end of today. Wonder if that means we won't get any videos until then, or if something will leak. (hopefully!)

If your trying to run in windows real player go to "options" then "preformance" and set buffer time to something like 540 seconds it'll take longer to buffer but the video will be smoother (this isnt a direct feed btw) but it still looks amazing.
