EDIT: The lack of a conference did drive me a little bonkers after it was reported by so many sites that one was going to happen. I guess we will have to wait until TGS. I bet the info is going to dry up fast until then. By the way, does it seem like IGN and a few other big time gaming sites know more than we do, but simply are keeping the information to themselves? I'm not talking about one certain thing, but information in general.
Yes, I'm sure they already have a good bit of the TGS news waiting, it's under embargo. It allows them to type the articles ahead of time so they can be released to the public faster, which benefits both site and the company it's writing about.

haha, I really wrote two contradictory things eh.
Yea, I should've described that as 'less grotesque' and not written that family shit. But whatever. I'm not gonna bother explaining, lol, you know what I meant anyway. Besides, that's what I could muster up at the moment with my english skills so pardon me for not applying the proper word usage. ;)

True! I was listening to the latest opm podcast and they are already working on their November issue and were teasing us listeners on how awesome the cover title for NOV is. Something we haven't heard/seen/thought of before. So there is bound to be exciting info coming at us in the coming months and especially before/around/soon after launch
Hurray(or Bluhurray) to all the active journos holding onto embargos. Must be really tough to hold onto mouth watering information when they hear all the PS3 badmouthing these days. Props to them all :salute:
http://www.maj.com/gallery/JitsuX/Gifs/truckkick.gif PWNSOME!
If this really is the last of the MGS series then i hope KONAMI will at least attempt to make a MGS1 remake for the ps3.
If not we'll start a petition!

It just me did the devs downgraded the visuals to make it look more gritty? I dont know if its just a bad video feed but it has lots of jaggies, frame rate problems and simple wall textures. Teh previous videos have better resolution.

Well This trailer was really good, and the Grey filter on it looks like the movie Black Hawk Down.. But I prefered the Blue cinematic filter from the first 1080p trailer.

I honestly believe this trailer was just as detailed and high quality as what we saw at E3. However, the reason it looks so gritty is because it's so low in resolution and is simply from a video cam taking a recording from the screen. When you get a direct feed and HD version fo this same 3 minute trailer it's going to go from being really cool to being totally awsome!!!

Perhaps it could change based on the enviornment?

Nameless,
I think the filters are a good thing, but I don't want the same filter in every level. For example, some levels the green filter could be appropriate and other levels the bluish filter. Other times a dirty filter could be applied. But I also hope sometimes Snake will be bright and in direct sunlight. I want to see all of his details at least a few times in the game.

MILR,
I recall someone mentioning you don't know jack about Jack(pun intended!). Go play MGS1 to MGS3 first. You'll appreciate Kojima's games more that way. Without knowing anything about MGS especially MGS2, you might not feel or understand every reference Kojima is going to throw at us in MGS4. Trust me, you should play them.
Otherwise you could risk feeling like a kid who blindly follows the baloon guy at the carnival because its exciting n all, only to find out later his family is missing. If that made any sense, go buy them. And hey, now that you got yourself a free PS3 too(congrats by the way :)), No more excuses, ok buddy. You can get these games after your PS3 arrives and you got nothing else to do except to wait for MGS4.

08-25-2006, 04:05 PM
When my PS3 arrives I plan to try out an assortment of games. Thankfully, there is a flea market not too far away where I should be able to buy some PS2 games pretty affordably. I'm actually hoping my brother that moved away might actually mave some of the Metal Gear Games, and if so I might be able to have him mail them to me if hes not playing them.
I know a little about the storyline such as the woman who was the Boss, how Snake became the Big Boss by killing the Boss. Also, about how there are three clones who are the result of the Les Enfants Terribles program. He is actually the genetically weakest of the the three which also include Solidus and Liquid Snake. However, for a long time they thought he was the superior model.
Of course I realize to learn the other 99% of the information I need to play the games.
I'm so excited about Metal Gear Solid 4. It just looks absolutely fantastic.
You know what they should do? With all that extra room in the Blu-Ray disc they should create a thirty minute history of the metal gear story arc. That way those who have never played the games would at least have a somewhat better understanding going in.
From what I understand about Snake I really hope he doesn't die, because hes had one horrible life. It might have been exciting in a certain type of way, but it's been war, conflict, and battles both physical and emotional.
THE DUDE DESERVES A NICE LUXURY CONDO IN MIAMI, TONS OF MONEY, A BEAUTIFUL WIFE, and of course the chance to spend his remaining time (whatever it turns out to be or if he lives) in peace!
I know, that's probably not going to happen. But it's what I would be wishing for if I was him!

I doubt we will actually see gameplay footage until E3 2007...
At least we know what the engine is capable of creating visually, but I would like to see ingame camera angles to get a better idea of what to expect while playing the game.
Honestly, it does not matter that much from my perspective because I just can't wait to see the story line & experience the game. Peace

I played Snake Eater for his birthday since Virtuous Mission takes place on August 24th as well :D
I was planning on playing through it in "real-time," like waiting until August 30th & stuff to play through Operation Snake Eater and stuff but I got too excited and just beat it anyways. I took longer than I took on my first run through the game and got to see some great stuff, caught Tsuchinoko, and laughed multiple times at the conversations between Snake and Para-medic. The one about Russian glowcaps recharging batteries was so damn funny

Yea, and did you notice the coughing and injecting serum in neck part at the end. Seems like Kojima has decided to keep that in the game after all. Either that or it was just that he wanted to show the trailer which had consistent framerate. Another theory I'd put out is that, 'the coughing part' equals Kojima's stance on Snake's dying health, which he deliberately avoided showing 'with gun to the mouth' sequence. Since German laws may vary n stuff to go ahead with that kind of footage.

This in from Famitsu. Kojima answering some of their questions regarding the substance coming out of the Gekko's rear and some future face masks etc.
Q: The moonlight ('the new model metal gear which utilizes the foot of the organism which appears in the movie of metal gear solid 4') is the liquid of the green color which has been put out what?
Kazuo Kojima: it is the blood. Those yellow by the way are the pee. The marking it has done, it is with the shank. Perhaps, specification it stops driving finally, but (laughing).
Q: The cardboard appearing to the metal gear online' with something, wrapping, it does?
KK: It is '[omajiyu] to of the box man' of the Kojima Abe public room. However 'with 3' there was an alligator cap, perhaps, 'with 4' it wears those which are different.

Just think when we finally get to see this trailer in true HD and not just cam footage!
Personally, I think we are missing many of the fine details because these videos were made for HIGH DEFINITION. If you don't have an HD VERSION then they are not going to look their best.
Trying to guess to what they are going to look like in true HD I will say these three minutes look just as good as what we saw at E3 of 2006.
However, I do want to see what Snake's model looks like at TGS. I hope it has improved from what we saw at TGS and E3 of 2006. It looked very good each time, but I think a combination fo the best features of both would make an even better model.

For fellow MGS lovers on the board. Here's a nostalgic walk in history for you guys. Hope you like it just as much as I did :) Ahh those were the days man!
Konami and famed game designer Hideo Kojima held a press event to publicly unveil what's sure to be one of next year's biggest games on any platform: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The demonstration was held at the Universal Studios lot inside a moderately-sized auditorium for an audience of about 150 journalists from around the world.
Kojima briefly addressed the audience before showing the promotional footage of Metal Gear Solid 2, which showed off a lot of the game's forthcoming features, alluded to its plot, showed some of its main characters, and kept the audience riveted until it finally erupted in applause once the trailer finally ended.
The roughly ten-minute presentation was cut, edited, and scored more like a movie trailer than a video game preview. In those ten minutes we were introduced to the new look of Metal Gear, powered by the PlayStation 2, and it was unlike anything we'd ever seen before.
Let us go back to an evening in history and recall a similar kind of anticipation for a past Metal Gear title. May 10th of 2000, the MGS2 unveiling event. A conference room at Universal Studios in Los Angeles jam packed with more than 100 journalists. Kojima came up and started the presentation. Nine minutes later, MGS2 trailer ends with some of the most mesmerizing moments anyone had ever imagined possible in a videogame. Never before seen pulse pounding polygonal sequences and soundtrack that came straight from a Hollywood music director. Nine minutes of visual tour de force drove the audience crazy with excitement. End result, a standing ovation with a good round of applause for Kojima and team.
The famous 9minute trailer that jaw dropped everyone in 2000. In highquality ripped and encoded with h.264 from the MGS2 bonus DVD.
138MB (h.264)

Nice one yoshaw :) What was so good about that trailer is that it showed a lot of things that no other game had recreated before, IMO. There were many other great things about it, but I'll leave it to the people who haven't seen that yet.
By the way, here you have MGS2's game plan (http://www.mgstus.org/downloads/misc/MGS2_orginal_gameplan/metal_gear_solid_2_grand_game_plan.pdf). It's relevant to the E3 2000 unveiling because, among many, many other things, explains why MGS2 was originally titled "MGS III" in the beginning, just like at the end of that trailer.
And don't miss the DMC2 videos I uploaded some minutes ago (http://forums.e-mpire.com/showpost.php?p=1217952&postcount=57) ;)

It's funny because I compare the impact of the Killzone E3 2005 trailer to the MGS2 trailer. The Killzone footage showed us overal visuals on a different level and if Sony can prove this is realtime pronto it could have the same effect and prove the PS3 will outclass the 360. That's my :2cents:

Yea, very true. As much as I got bummed out by the shoddy black bar around the already small video. The directfeed sound totally makes up for its resolution shortcoming. This game will be a visual/aural tour de force in 2007!
Makes me really consider buying a decent 5.1 Surround Sound System.

I'm going to wait until they provide us with the real HD clip. Quite frankly, I appreciate the weaker clips but it's frustrating to get such tiny little clips.
I wish Kojima would at least let those magazines have their exclusive and then after a week or two give us the real footage.
I really do appreciate everyone that is making an effort to get the clips.

WHOA! The new 3 minutes of footage from LEIPZIG looks amazing even in this lower resolution (but direct feed). Man! MGS4 looks like a MOVIE in some ways. It's not photorealistic, but darn, darn good!!!!!!
Leipzig > (E3 = TGS)
EDIT: I hate to throw these terms around. But many people say "CG" cannot be done in "real-time" and that all the "CG" trailers we have seen are not possible to be done in game.
Well, at least to the human eye the LEIPZIG footage looks DARN CLOSE to CG to my human eyes!
DARN NEAR CLOSE!!!!
If this is possible then Killzone is possible. Period. End of Story.

Its the same trailer we've seen so far, only constructed together to have a quality cinamatic feel.
The first part is from GC in Leipzig, the second part is from the TGS2005 trailer, as was the last part.

If this is possible then Killzone is possible.
For crying out loud- Killzone 2 wasn't even that impressive! Resistance I think looks much better.
Killzone feels too dark and gloomy and..dull. Maybe that's because of the 'war' setting but I think Resistance handles the art much better.
Sorry to go off topic!
On-topic- Is thsi worth downloading (I started now but it's going really slow).

Your right. The last part is what we saw from TGS. I previously said E3, but I was wrong.
However, the new footage from Leipzig looks great. It looks marvelous in my opinion.
Also, remember that Kojima told everyone at Leipzig that he PROMISED that the actual game itself would look AT LEAST as good as what they were seeing.
I don't think Kojima would make such a promise unless he could keep it.
That trailer in real-time (remember they are having a revolutionary new camera system for the game) will prove in my opinion that any PRE-RENDERED scene we have seen BEFORE the launch of the PS3 will end up being possible.
Dang. That Leipzig footage looks sharp.
EDIT: Personally, I prefer the "feel" of Resistance and MGS4 rather than Killzone. However, Killzone's graphics are probably just about the best we have seen so far. They are truly top notch and more so than just the great close-ups and character models is the fact there is so much happening on the screen at once! There are explosions, bullets flying, planes crashing, people getting blasted, etc. But once again, graphically the game is supurb and a lot of people don't think it will be done in real-time. However, if MGS4 can look this good in real-time and it's not even launched I have a feeling Killzone can reach it's target render (to the human eye, not technically) and stun the world.

Yes. You will love this better than the TGS05 videos you've seen so far. Its high quality, even in free packages.
If you've seen trailers up until this point, don't bother downloading. I downloaded it even though I've seen it all, I think the trailer is better than the said trailers. The best trailer as it stands; E32006.

What I've been very happy about with the new videos is how they've implemented a lot better facial animation system than which they utilized in E3'05 trailer. It seems to allow very refined expressions, amazement, anger, fear and so on. As you can see at the poor guy's face when a Gekko starts to move towards him.
The expression on Snake's face when he dropped his cigarette in the earlier trailer was almost priceless :)

Simply put, Bump Mapping provides additional details to a surface.
Actually it adds what appears to be surface roughness. Instead of using additional polys, bump mapping can provide the minute details to objects (like the cloth in the uniforms you complained about...)
I'm not sure if you have seen the HD footage, but I would agree with many in these forums that MGS4 is the best looking realtime images seen to date.
If you would like to elaborate on my explanation of bump mapping feel free. Peace

What I meant by more bump mapping is that in the TGS MGS4 trailer Snake's face was a little more graphically realistic. It looked more like *reality* and I have read online that it was obvious a lot of detailed bump mapping was helping to do that. Then if you fast forward to E3 of 2006 Snake's character model changed. It still looked VERY GOOD, but maybe lost a little DETAIL but ARTISTICALLY looked even better. The new artistic design of his face simply looked better.
What I am saying is that if they could use the NEW model of Snake with the *slightly* better detail we saw at TGS then it would be an even BETTER model all together.
EDIT: If anyone doesn't like the fact that some of us are expecting the game to look even BETTER than what we saw at E3 of 2006 please remember KOJIMA's PROMISE at E3 that the final version would have GREATLY ENHANCED GRAPHICS.

Fazares, please post a pic of a console game with better graphics, and then we'll talk.
Not to mention provide an example of your idea of good quality for bump maps, keeping in mind that this is a mass-produced goon, and that they most likely will have 50-60 of them on-screen at once, plus some Gekko's, and a very demanding model of Snake.
Thanks.

What's the point of comparing HS to MGS4 just does not make a lot of sense.
I was hoping all the negativity would not pollute the MGS threads, but I was incorrect. TGS can't get here fast enough, it could just lead to more pointless bickering.

when did kojima say they would greatly improve? I remember him saying they would 'be even better' but he never gave some measurable number or scale to go by, or what the details would go into. Are you forgetting the part about him saying he was going to focus a lot of attention on things that you couldn't see? Did you consider that graphics also includes framerate, animation, collision detection (always a bitch) and lots of other subtleties besides polygons and texture mapping that aren't immediately distinguishable in screenshots?
ANYWAY.

I'd be surprised if he could get MGS4 anymore visually appealing that what it already is. I mean GOD, IMO, it beats the shit out of any game I've seen including the oh so hyped pop n stop shooter from the other spectrum.

Twin Snakes was released on the Game Cube (remake of MGS), you would need to play MGS on the PS2 if you don't have a Game Cube (MGS was a PSone game).
I would suggest playing MGS3 first (it's a prequel to MGS), then play MGS & MGS2. If you don't mind seeing some old school graphics the games are very enjoyable and MGS3 still is a good looking title... :usa:

Sniff Sniff,
Look at the vid "Grey fox dies" at the end of it, when snake shouts out "Foooox"
Compare that to the vid "Tanker end" in MGS2 where Otacon after snakes gets drowned goes "Snaake"
The difference is staggering in quality of voice actors, MGS has had the biggest effect on me of all the series due to its cinematic likeness, voice acting plays a huge role in that.

Harry Gregson Williams will be back. No doubt about it. He was in MGS3 but not as heavily active as the previous game. Konami had one of their own sound designer working along with him. 'Snake Eater' the MGS3 theme song was composed by this new konami dude.
I'd bet Harry Gregson williams will be back for the 4th one as it is the last in the series(according to Kojima). So he'd be wanting to use the best of the best in the industry. And for those who don't know Harry's work. He's one of Hollywood's pioneer music directors who worked on amazing movies such as,
-The Rock
-The Replacement Killers (my fav. HGW movie)
-Kingdom of Heaven
-Enemy of the State
-Shrek series
-Phone Booth
-Spy Game
-Broken Arrow
-Chronicles of Narnia(2005) and many more
So again, those who don't know, Konami's been using a Hollywood music composer to represent Solid Snake all this while(from MGS2 on PS2 to date).
Edit: mistake, ty VG
Since MGS1? I thought his first score on the series was MGS2's.

Kojima told us this directly in an interview. He said that not all the locations in the E3 trailer were in the middle east, but he had applied the same filter to make the audience believe that they were.
If you want the link, I'll find it for you when I get home.

Shoot, I've read that article at least 5 or 6 times.
I just went through the first game recently. I don't think I had gone through it since it first came out. Got me right back into the series. Now, time to get another copy of MGS2.....
Cool article btw.
