joystiq.com/2006/09/06/sony-1mln-to-1-2mln-ps3s-for-north-america-in-06/

If you read the article from joystiq.com they make great points. When the Dreamcast sold 512,000 consoles when it launched, everyone went crazy because those numbers were amazing at the time. Yet when PS2 launched and it ended up with the same numbers, it was looked upon as a shortage due to Sony saying they'll get 1 million ready.

These numbers really don't matter, the only important thing about them is wondering if one of those PS3s are going to be in your possession. So this does not mean the PS3 is going to fail. Sony's planned shipments for NA is supposed to be higher than the number of Microsoft's 360s launched in NA and total shipped by the end of 05 last year. The only way for a console to fail, is when the consumers just lose interest in the console and go for one that has been hyped up to be the most amazing thing ever. Its not over until Ken Kutaragi sings

I heard that there will be a total of 1.2 million PS3s in America by the end of the year. Don't know about Japan.
