View Full Version : The #1 Thing That Needs To Be Eliminated In Nex Gen Consoles

Load Times. I absolutely cant stand them. They ruin the flow of the game and often are caused by the developers being lazy. I couldnt stand playing GTA Vice City on PS2 because the load times were atrocious. I hated the PSX back in the day just because of the stupid load times it had. I remember standing in Toys R' Us for over 3 minutes waiting for Twisted Metal to load a level... There is really no excuse even this generation for developers to not be able to AT LEAST hide the load times like in Metroid Prime.

Well the majority of that should be fixed because all of the next-gen consoles will most likely have harddrives.

I agree completely. Load times are annoying and need to die or at the very least be extremely short.

I rented Mafia the other day. That game has the longest, most annoying load times ever. It worked like GTA did, like when you crossed a certain point, it had to load for a sec. Well, it did that, but took twice as long.

The load times get pretty bad in RE too. It's not so much the length, but that every single screen has load times. The best developers find a way to hide it.

Halo pauses for about half a second every time it needs to load, I'm sure they're working on fixing such things for Halo 2...... load times don't bother me that much. Test Drive = has the best way to wait for the game to load, ever.

I found the worst load time ever in a new PC game, or at least its demo. Far Cry. It takes over 5 minutes to start the game. I deleted the demo after only playing it a few times and being sick of the load after every death.
The RE loads were kinda long and frequent. I'm hoping RE4 fixes that.

i hate load times they always suck, they bore you and they sometimes ruin your experience especially on the PC when the game freezes when it loads (AKA. Knights of hte Old Republic)

Most likely it has that little mini game with shooting things. I remember, I think.

I can count on one hand the number of games that I really noticed their loading times, and got annoyed by it. GTA3 for the PS2 was not one of them. I haven't played the game in a while, but I really only remember the initial load and saving to have a long loading time.
If loading times take approximately 1 second or less, depending upon the genre of the game, I really don't care. If it gets much longer than that, it becomes noticable. Then it varies by game to game whether you can forgive this flaw or not.
I agree, Load Times are gay. The worst load times I experience are from EA games, every EA game I play has had long loading times or painfully obvious ones. Resident Evil Remake got annoying, watching the doors open everytime you changed rooms.

Load times are a pain, but I don't own any games that have terrible ones.

Yeah, same. Except Halo goes a bit slow sometimes. And kotOR.
hmm... what needs to be eliminated... can't think of anything just yet, but I'll be back wit ideas.

Yeah KOTOR's load times were annoying. What was also annoying was that rooms would stream in images so you would have the Superman 64 fogging effect in some rooms.

it'd be better if you got to play a mini game durring load times. I'd love to play the cell phone game Snake while waiting for mgs to load, even though MGS has a quick load time.

That's just the demo...
It had huge problems, which they're fixing before release...
Tons of people had problems just trying to get the game to start, let alone play...
Demo problems will be fixed.
hopefully...

it is awesome you get to play pong, and there isnt any lag it is just like natural side thing, that was a very clever way to hide loading

I don't mind load times if they are at most 5 seconds, but longer than that, the game automaticly sucks.

I get annoyed but load times but they're no biggie. EA Sports games are pretty bad, and GTA. The worst is when you save a franchise in Madden 2004.. it takes like 5 minutes..
I wonder how they made Wind Waker work without load times..? The world was huge.

I wasn't sure if it was just the demo or not ( I put it in my post I think.) that was going to have that long load time but that was ridiculus. No joke but I cooked a small meal during the loading once.

Hm.. I never really had a problem with Load-times. Being a PS-junky I developed a patience for them. Yet then again I personally have patience for a lot of things.
Yet then again, I agree for gamers who have no patience, that the load-times be hidden or fixed.. hopefuly like you guys said, the next generations of consoles will all have hard-drives and we'll never have to worry about silly load-times again.. though there always is lag to worry about once in a while, na? *chuckles*
