I have looked around and it seems buying CS:S direct from Steam looks like the cheapest. But my question is do they mail you the game or link you to a download for it. Also would it just be handier to buy from the shops even though its twice the price.

You download the game to your harddrive.

If anything happens (HDD goes bad, new comp etc) I believe you can show proof of purchase and re-download the title. I have downloaded over steam and its very user friendly and a great money saver.

Go For It.

They also have an option to backup your games after you have downloaded them so you will not have to later if you had an HDD crash.

You setup a steam account FREE and then purchase games and link them to that account. Now that the games are linked to that account if you get a new computer or your HDD dies you simply re-download steam log in as usuall and steam auto tracks that you own CS:S and lets you re-download as many times as you need to. However don't think you can share the game by giving it to friends or downloading it to many computers as only 1 steam client can be loged in. eg you can have CS:S on many PC's under your account but you can only use one at a time.

I had an older steam account with a good few games on it last year and lost the password, answer to the secret question and cd key lol. I have the game discs but no keys unless I go hunting.

Yeah it's great!! I love digital distribution and I bought HL 2 through Steam a week ago. I'm going to buy Episode 1 through that as well!
