After weeks of marketing and launch preparation, reports out of China indicate Sony has delayed the launch of their PlayStation 2 console in the country. Apart from rampant software piracy, Sony reportedly faces a pricing problem. Thereby, pirates are able to sell illegally imported PlayStation 2 consoles from Japan and America for only 1600 yuan ($193), while the Chinese version of the console is expected to retail for 1980 yuan ($239). Sources close to the company have cited weak pre-sales due to the pricing problem as the reason for Sony's delay. Sony is expected to lower the price of the PlayStation 2 in China and reschedule their launch plans for early next month.
