E3 2006: The PS3 Digits
How far along are PS3 games? The answer may surprise you.

May 10, 2006 - The PlayStation 3's big unveiling is the first chance developers have had to show off years and years of work. But how much work have they been able to get done? Here's a quick report of the PS3 games we have been able to take a glance at and their states of completion.

Untold Legends -- 60%
MotorStorm -- 50%
Mobile Suit Gundam -- 20%
Resistance: Fall of Man -- 70%
Warhawk -- 30% (this must be why the demo here was so small, short, incomplete, and not-yet-devastating)
Gran Turismo HD -- 20%
Heavenly Sword -- 50%
Genji 2 -- 60%
F1 '06 -- 60%
Virtua Tennis 3 -- 20%
Sonic the Hedgehog -- 40%
Madden 07 -- 30%
Heavy Rain -- 20%
WarDevil -- ?? (this is the first PS3 demo of the game; it has previously been built on PC, and this early PS3 build does not yet have anti-aliasing, motion blur, or depth of field)
Assassin's Creed -- *TBA
Indiana Jones -- *TBA
Full Auto 2: Battlelines -- *TBA
The Club -- *TBA
Fatal Inertia -- *TBA

For more number-hungry fiends, we have been able to confirm that two PS3 games are indeed running at 1080p -- Gran Turismo HD from SCE and WarDevil from indie developer Digi-Guys. Heavy Rain from Quantic Dream may be in 1080p or 1080i, but this is entirely unconfirmed (its presence in the SCE booth leads heavily to this, as we have heard that heavy hurdles were put up who could get their game on the floor.) Resistance: Fall of Man is also targetting higher resolutions (1080p or 1080i), but it does not yet hit those heights. The vast majority of PS3 games seen have been running at 720p.

We'll have more numbers for you to run through your abacus as soon as we've had a chance to see everything on the floor.

the fact that we have to ask, 'is this game running at 1080p'... isn't that just a testament to how little it matters/how big a difference it is, and how inperceivable it is to our eyes? Just a thought.

You need to see a game running at 1080p before making a statement like that. Wardevil was clearly sharper than most of the other games on the floor. The fact that they kept 1080p and got that much detail out of PS3 blows me away.

Hmm, I'll keep that in mind. I conceed that I don't know, but I just can't help but wonder how much detail is even perceivable by our eyes, from 1080p-720p. But if you can testify I'll play along.

A lot of detail can be perceived. If you put displays side by side of SDTV, DVD, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p, you will notice detail increases with each one up to 1080p.

my mate was looking at a sharp 1080p monitor & he was saying that it was great with STILL images but even when there was some movement there was alot of (pixelation) cant remember exact words sorry, but he says it seemed like the tvs processer couldnt keep up, at that rez. he also watched a blu-ray movie through a 15 thou projector & was absolutely stunned at the picture quality & difference using blu-ray.
and this is a man that hates projectors front/rear kind of any sort, hes always had the highest rez plasmas & lcds you can get.

Great news report! I want to see the percentage that FFXIII was running at. That game looked completely awesome to be running in realtime at this stage. Already, the game resembles its FMV fairly close, and that's with developers still learning its hardware. That's impressive.

Oh, and HotShots Golf need info, too. another impressive title, IMO.

Those can be pretty misleading if you ask me. Rogue Galaxy, a PS2 RPG that's been out for some time in Japan (and even Europe I think) was listed at 30% completion!!! huh!?

I wonder who they were asking, one would hope they asked the devolpers, but who knows?

Yakuza (ryu ga gotoku) was listed as 60%. But it has been out in japan for a while now too. Guess its just like 60% translated.

Yeah, I think it's really relative to what each developer thinks -- these aren't official Sony standards everybody is reporting when it comes to completion. Warhawk's remaining 70% could be made up a lot of the ground missions or voice work, or something like that too -- the game looked just fine when I played it, and It's gonna be a blast :)
