Sony is a love/hate relationship

I hate the Playstion with all fibers of my videogame being. However Through all of this, I still love Sony. They make top quality products that, other than playstations, never break down. If they do, Sony provides great customer support. While i have this great likeing for Sony their gaming system makes me wanna puke. Does this make any sense? Is it ok for a GC fan like I to love Sony electronics while still despising their consoles?

As far as consumer electronics go, I will only buy sony. I have a sony vega tv, sony dvd player, dvd burner, vcr, pc monitor, ps2, and camcorder. They have never ever given me any problems. SOny is top notch quality across the board.

Sony's products have been in a steady decline over the last 10 years. I have a few Sony products currently and they're all problematic. Of course other brands are inconsistent, but they don't overcharge you for some perception of quality. Yeah, greed got the best of them.

I bought a mini-disc player four years ago. It is a Sony and has been put through all kinds of hell that an electronic piece of equipment that cost 250 dollars should. I use it dail for about 2 and a half hours on my commute. It has never broke down one. Niether has my Sony stereo system for that matter. Thats why I asked the question.

Why is ps2 a piece of shit? During the first production run they had quality issues. That was version 1 ps2. Now they are up to version 7 or even 8 by now. THe quality issue was fixed in ps2 in version 2. Later versions just added more features(dvd-+r playback)and fixed some copy protetion issues. If you think it is a piece of crap because it has lower specs that GC or xbox, you are ignorant. It was released a whole year earlier.

Go ahead hate sony, they are not going away, either embrace it or be left out of many good games. I have all the systems of the current generation. I dont dislike any of them, the more systems the better life is for the consumer.

Yeah but I was just wondering why then you said you specifically hate this system. And what have they done to make you them. They were not the downfall of Nintendo(in the console market). Nintendo did it to themselves.

Imagine if nintendo would have pulled what they are pulling now against sega back in the day. Nintendo would be gone just like sega is today.

If they release a system with little game support and a kiddie image in the 80's and 90's that would have been that. Now in early 2000's they purposly released a purple console with many early childhood games. (luigies mansion) at launch, when it only launched with like 10 games. that says alot about who they were targeting.

I love nintendo and realize it is not just for little kids. I could name the entire catalouge of games more for adults. It was their launch image that ruined them for this generation.

SolidSnake needs to get a clue. For real. You do know that Sony's PlayStation was Nintendo's idea, right? It was a result of Nintendo wanting to make a CD add-on for the SNES, numbnuts. That is why the original PlayStation console was called PSX. Originally the PlayStation was a SNES CD add-on, which means Nintendo toyed with CD's before Sony considered entering the gaming market, genius. They also teamed up with Philips to create CDi, wonderboy, back before Sony entered the field.

As a matter of fact, no, they CAN'T. They are a SOFTWARE company, like MICROSOFT THAT DOESN'T MAKE THEIR OWN HARDWARE, EITHER. As for the $99 price tag, that is why it is doing so well, outselling Xblox. The only reason PS2 is selling so well is because it has a huge library of games, but that is a different argument altogether that I won't bother with right now. Keep in mind that Nintendo dropped their price by only $100, while Sony and Microsoft dropped theirs by $200, dipshit, and even when they sold at $299 they sold them way UNDER cost, losing money on every console sold. What does that say about them? What's the matter Sony and Microsoft, can't compete with Nintendo by selling their consoles at a higher price? Have to drop theirs to several hundred dollars under cost just to compete with Nintendo?

Thats probably one of the most constructive comments that anybody has made. And im not going to go into a debate about Im a bigger Sony hater than u, BUT I really hate Sony in terms of consoles. Maybe Nintendo has helped dig their own grave. But Sony just came into the market and destroyed what was once a great game maker. Innovation was far more possible in the NES and Super NES eras because they didnt have Sony right on their ass.

You would only need these if you absoultly needed the best quailty possible. Not everyone needs to be able to stop and bullet, and reflect gamma ray with thier A/V wire though.


AS far as the PS2's drive quailty goes...The DiscDrive is still terrible. Did you people know that Sony knew the entire time that when PS1 was launched, the lens track in the disk drive would wear away over time? This is why you had to turn your old PSX upside down or sideways to get it to read games. That plagued the PS1 for the longest time.

AS for the PS2, it has the highest failure rate amoung the consoles when It comes to disc reading. This is taken from my own servey. That is the one thing most popel around my area and other place complain about- The PS2 not reading games properly. I actually open my friend's PS2 to clean it for him, and had to use windex on the drive's lens to get it clean. (I DON'T RECCOMEND THIS METHOD OF CLEANING LENES. ONLY LAST RESORT!) The one thing I religiously hear in gamming stores? Usually customers comming in complaing over PS2's which will not read games, movies, and CDs, and asking for solutions.

There has to be an improvment sony " Could" do to correct this.

Monster cables are for suckers. Best Buy always tries to sucker people into buying them. Then i asked the guy if they use them to set up tvs and games consoles there and he was like, "NO!!!". What a rip off. ANd yes they are thicker wire, this only help signal loss over great distances., not the 3-6 feet from the console to the back of the tv.

Also about ps2 drive quality. THis was fixed in version 2 of the system. That was the only real version upgrade that fixed a quality control issue. All the rest of the upgrades(3-7/8) were to stop piracy and add dvd-+rw support. The instance were someone plays a dvd and games stop working i have heard before, but have never actually come across a real person who has had this happen to them.(also this was out during verision 1), which i own and have never had problems with, just a few in the run.
