I'm not sure if anybody around here plays or has ever piddled with the online game Maple Story (http://www.mapleglobal.com), but I used to play it a year ago and quit since it sucked on dialup, but I've recently started again since I finally have broadband.

While playing the game, I frequently end up dropping out of the game, and I can't figure out why. It behaves as though I've lost connection, but I have no problems of any kind with my connection. Even when it's in a period of failing to connect with the game server, I have no problems doing anything else over the internet, like come here and make this thread. So, obviously, my problem doesn't appear to be an unstable connection at my end.

I've e-mailed them about my problem twice, and they only replied to the first one, and none of their suggestions helped any (hence the second e-mail to them that went without response). They asked me to make sure I had the most recent version of the client, which I had to have since I had just got done downloading and installing it only like two days before I sent them the first e-mail. They wanted me to make sure my DirectX was up to date, and it is. They wanted me to make sure my connection was stable, and as I've explained already it seems to be. Then they mentioned firewalls, which I did sort of suspect, but I've snooped around and I don't seem to even have any enabled, so that doesn't seem to be it, either.

It seems that I'm fine as long as I don't go from one area to the next. If I were to stay on one single map, I could probably go for hours without dropping out of the game. It seems that about 20% of the time, when going from one location to the next, that I drop out of the game once I've entered that next area. It seems particularly bad with certain specific areas, like the one indicated on the map in the image below. It seems that just about every time I enter this area, I drop out of the game. This trend makes it seem very unlikely that it happens to be an issue of an unstable connection, firewall issue, or anything else that they suggested to me.

Well, I used to play myself. (On Beta, then on all three current servers: Scania, Bera, and Broa) This used to happen all of the time to my friends and me. It might be just that the server is ridiculously busy. That slows things down to a crowl sometimes and people oftentimes get kicked out or even can't get in because it is too crowded on the server. That is the only other thing that I can think of. Oh, and the place you suggested is near (Or perhaps even is) Henesys training ground, where all of the new/lower level players go to train, making it one of the laggiest parts of the game (Besides Perion channel 1 of course) Try a different server if you can, if you play on Scania, try Bera or Broa, or vice versa. Hope this helps :)

Well, the problem seems to persist even at periods when few people are playing. The area indicated isn't the training ground, which is two clicks east of there, I believe.

I used to play Maple Story but got bored of it. It was good while it lasted.

Hmm, I can't imagine what it is then. Haven't heard of a problem quite like this one before. *Keeps thinking*

I've noticed something else, too. It seems that, when entering one of these certain areas that give me trouble, I stay connected if there are other players in that same place, but if I enter it and am the only player present, I tend to drop out of the game. Testing this theory, and hoping to not get booted, I've tried to be in channel 1 whenever passing through one of these trouble spots, but despite the crowdedness of the first channel I still occasionally find a lack of players in those regions. Further, if players should happen to enter one of those areas after I've entered it alone, I still drop out of the game, but I can see what they're doing. So, I'm receiving data about what they're doing, but it's like my character suddenly doesn't exist as far as the server's concerned.
