Sega makes a profit?! YES YOU READIT RIGHT!

Taken from Planet GC-
------------------------------------------------

Sega announces a profit for its first quarter of its fiscal year!

It seems Sega is slowly lifting itself out of the gutter. Thursday Sega announced a profit of 1.89 billion yen, or 15.8 million dollars, and 42.4 billion yen ($353 million) in sales between April and June. Although it is hard for analysts to make projections on the rest of Sega’s year, as this is Sega’s first quarterly earnings report publicly released, it is safe to say any profit is good for the company, whose reports have historically been in the red.

Sega attributes this pleasant surprise to key titles such as Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, an updated GameCube port of the signature Dreamcast title, and the quirky Let's Make a J-League Soccer Club 3 for the PS2, both of which sold above Sega’s expectations. Sega reports it is still on track to meet its goal of 7.5 billion yen ($1.6 billion) in profit by the end of March 2004.

-----------------------------------------------

Hopefully this will push them to make newer more original titles rather than giving us a (cube owners) a Dreamcast Library.

Unfortunately NintendoSpirit...for the month of June 2003, it was at the top of the Gamecube charts. I will buy it when it's a Player's Choice for about $20 but I don't think a near-direct port is worth $40.

Sonic Adventure DX:Directors Cut had a less than decent review and for that its worth about 15-20 dollars IMO although i dont know if i should trust IGN's judgment... and the 3-D Sonic games are not nearly as good as the 2-D anyways... again IMO...

still im pretty sure they made a pretty good profit on PSO(GC and XBOX version... although Microsoft took over XBOX's PSO servers awhile ago), they charged $10 month per person and its been out for quite some time now

Microsoft isn't getting all that much Sega support though. And why should they? PDO was a total FLOP in terms of sales. Came in around 95000.

^ because that's for Japan. Of course Microsoft isn't going to get that much support. Sega has 9 games coming out for Xbox during the rest of the year here*:

- Otogi
- SegaGT Online
- Sonic Heroes
- ESPN NFL Football
- ESPN NHL Hockey
- ESPN College Hoops
- ESPN NBA Basketball
- Headhunter
- Rent-A-Hero No. 1

*Assuming Sonic Heroes and Headhunter make it out in time

And then there is of course OutRun 2, which is being built from the ground-up on the Xbox arcade unit - same with VirtuaCop 3.

None of those titles is exclusive to XBox. Only three that you mentioned are:

- Otogi
- SegaGT Online
- Rent-A-Hero No. 1*

*Was on Dreamcast, but still counts.

How can you compare that to last year's (and beginning of this year's) Sega games for XBox? There was definitely more, and better Sega support, especially with the whole bundle thing.
