Killzone 2 is a PS2 title. by the time PS3 gets here, I expect they would have been working on Killzone 3.

you can also add to that list;

Black -FPS-Insomniac
an untitled car-combat game from Ubisoft

other announced titles are: the next Tekken, Soul Caliber, Mortal Kombat, GT, Resident Evil, etc.

I think there is a good chance we'll see Quake 4 too.

Team Bondi aren't working on The Getaway.

Their first game is a new IP being funded by Sony Computer Entertainment America. I think we'll see a snippet of it during E3. :D

Koei also announced a game based on the coming hugely anticipated samurai movie. They called it Oni, but I doubt if the name stays since there is already a PS2 game by that name that launched pretty early on the system. It is exciting that a Koei representative said that the game and movie will share some of the same CG work. By that, they are hinting on how capable PS3 will be.

Wait, now is this Koei game going to be an action game or a historical strategy a la Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Nobunaga's Ambition?

Nice, they made a game in one year. Hopefully this well sell loads of copies. KillZone didn't do well in it's first life. Now it's been resurrected into the second one.

k, I'm just actin' like an idiot (don't answer.)

And nice PS3 games list. But there should be more. *sigh* Why do we have to wait for E3?

Quantic Dream Reveals Next-Gen Titles
Attention, long-time gamers: Omikron 2 is one of them.
by David Adams

April 7, 2005 - Developer Quantic Dream, currently at work on Indigo Prophecy (a.k.a. Fahrenheit), have announced plans for two next-generation titles: Omikron 2, the sequel to 1999's acclaimed PC adventure; and Infraworld, part of a new franchise.

While Quantic Dream is only now finalizing design documents for the two projects, the developer already plans to use its proprietary "next gen" engine as well as NOVODEX physics technology. Both titles are in development for PlayStation 3, the new Xbox system, and the PC.

The developer isn't revealing more just yet, but we'll be back as soon as additional details come in.

Metronome Revealed
Sound is your weapon in next-gen game.by Axel Strohm
04/08/2005 With a visual design reminiscent of a Tim Burton movie and a main character whose primary means of interaction with the world is to record and play back sound, Metronome has the makings of a truly interesting game.
Developed by Team Tarsier and intended for next-generation consoles, the title centers around a boy who fights, soothes and fools characters using sounds such as a rock smashing through a window or the angry insults of an irritated citizen. Metronome will be shown to select publishers and media outlets during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles on May 18-20.

Guerrilla Games have started on Killzone 3 for Playstation 3. The 2nd team there, the ones who worked on Shellshock Nam '67 are currently working on it. The first team who did Killzone are doing 2, so when that's out of the door they'll drop on to the PS3 project.

Ratchet: Deadlocked for PS2, out this fall. Their PS3 FPS is supposed to be on the mature side, so no bright furry animals with guns.

Grandia
04-10-2005, 11:53 AM
Ratchet:Deadlocked, as Powercell stated, will be released at the end of this year for the PS2. It's not slated for release on the PS3. Supposedly, Insomniac is working on an FPS, for the PS3 launch.

Meanwhile, another PS2-exclusive platformer developer, Insomniac Games, is hard at work on an as-yet-unnamed first person shooter for the PlayStation 3's launch. The Insomniac FPS is said to benefit from a serious in-house push from Sony. "Expect Insomniac to go balls out with the FPS, they have Sony's blessing and a huge budget and have been concepting the game for well over a year." The lofty aim of the project? "To take on Halo." A tall task to say the least (just ask Killzone), but it can't hurt to have a Sony-exclusive response to Microsoft's number one franchise ready to kick off the PS3. As far as feature, online play would be a safe bet.

Such an FPS is an exciting prospect and seems a natural progression for the studio, given that each of Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank games for PS2 have edged closer from third-person platformer towards shooter-oriented fare. The latest title in the series, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, even featured a "lock-strafe" control scheme that allowed gamers to navigate the third-person action with FPS style controls, as well as a robust online mode. It wouldn't be the first pure FPS for Insomniac either: their 1996 PSOne title Disruptor was a well-regarded shooter struck from the Doom mold.

http://www.got-next.com/news_read.php?id=340

This was from December of 2004, and more sources (CVG, EGM) have reported the same thing. I'm curious though how the game will be. They say it's supposed to take on Halo, and I'm assuming it should be as mature. But then again, Insomniac working on a mature title? Seems a bit strange. I hope, that they are working on a Halo killer, and I hope that it's amazing, as good, if not better than Halo. Sony desperately needs it, and it doesn't look like Killzone is going to be up to the task.

In Deadlocked, one of the new thing is, instead of the weapons going up levels, you'll be able to customize them with mods. Now, if handled properly, could you imagine how awesome that would be in a Halo-like game? Especially for multi-player. (Let's take a rocket launcher for example.

We can make it fire faster, have more rounds, but affects a smaller radius of damage, and does less damage than the regular rocket launcher.
Or, with another mod, we can make it have an even greater range, but fires slower, leaves you vulnerable while firing, and has only one round.
Or with another mod, we can have it fire bolts of ice instead of regular rockets, that freeze enemies instead of destroying them.

Even better, having ships/vehicles that are customizable as well?

I'm getting ahead of myself though. We don't really know if Insomniac is capable of making such a high caliber FPS. (I am a HUGE Insomniac fan, and love the Ratchet and Clank series, I'm just a bit skeptical.)

Oh well, I hope that they show some of it off at E3. Here's to hoping it's great.

(I wonder what else Naughty Dog is working on. They're both working on next generation titles, and they usually work on titles in similair genres...)

Z

It seems that people here are down playing Killzone. This isn’t the Killzone thread so I won’t go deep into it, but to give a few pointers Killzone is a great game. It has on of the smartest A.I in its genre, and amazingly, the multiplayer bots seem even more intelligent. Also, there hasn’t been a FPS that makes you feel you are really in that shoot out; bullets zipping past your ears, concrete blowing in your face. You could swear you can smell that gunpowder.…aaahh.
And my most desired aspect in any FPS is to fire good ol’ hot lead. Nothing gives you more satisfaction that a straight shot in the face!
That is why I don’t fancy lasers. It’s like using a flashlight to ‘flash’ people. It seems...’girly’ in a way.
By they way, I’ve beaten Halo1&2. great music. You feel you’re in a high budget movie. Just like Ace Combat 5’s.
I am extremely anxious for Killzone 2.

P.S. Killzone had a very memorable line just at the beginning that I loved:
“you…the strength in my arms….the holders of my dream”

sniff…snifff

Killzone's problems were slow frame rate and glitches other than that it was a fine game to me. If Guerillia games can improve on the problems with the 2nd Killzone thats supposed to be shown at E3 than i believe it will indeed be the FPS that PS2 fans have been wanting in their library.

Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned Killzone, got the whole thread off topic....

I haven't played all of Killzone, but, what I was saying was, I don't think after the bad press, etc. that the first one got, that Sony would want to call it its flagship FPS. It's a "good" game, had high production values, good story, etc. But it was riddled with problems. (Which was why I stopped playing)

So, what should we expect from Insomniac's FPS...? :)

Z

please continue Killzone discussion in its thread here (http://www.psinext.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4817)

Insomniac and Naught Dog both have amazingly talented teams. they also have full access and assistence from Sony itself (as they are part of Sony). you can see in their games the deep know-how. by that I expest any games from the likes of them and others like Gurilla, Team Bondi, Liverpool, etc. to show impressive technical ability.

about Halo, I say Halo Shmalo, this is next-gen we're talking about. let see some titles first before we start judging. there is no point in comparing any current game with next-gen offering.

Some of us here though... some of us (you guys know who you are), have a pretty solid idea of what to expect from these new machines from day one, and "Condemned" isn't even scratching the surface. It'd run fine on mid-range PCs right now.

The character models also look a little blocky too. Not really an ugly game but looks like a current generation PC game. Maybe this is the PC version. Certainly not a good next-gen bench mark.

as one of the UE3 folks said that next-gen consoles will surpass the best PC at the time. so if we already see how great the UE3 demo is and others like HL2, Elder Scroll, etc. how can anyone suspect that these premature demonstrations are the final product? that is why game Devs. are warry of showing new projects early. people would go like "what? it will look THAThorrible?!"

PS3 is sill a year away, expect even the specific E3 demos not to be accurate.

Evolution Studios are developing an exclusive Playstation 3 game. And there's World Touring Car Championship (depending on the outcome of their bid for the license) and Formula One 2007 from SCEE. :)

Seems Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/index.html?tag=gs_head_mast) have an early build of their PS3 games section.

There's another game not mentioned in this thread 'Secret Service' that they have listed there, 'Dirty Harry' too, lol.
